Sorry about that Lowell, and other list members...It started out as an
innocent posting of a first flight after getting a pilots license, but
along the way it became something more like OFF TOPIC, without being
declared so. I promise, I'll settle down and probably become a lurker
once this newness wears off. I just added "off topic" but I guess the
      damage has been done...

      Hi Mark,
I created the Kitfox Frappr Map just for your sort of question.
      http://www.frappr.com/kitfox
I am not the creator of Frappr Maps, I am just the administrator of the
      Kitfox Map.
The map has undergone many upgrades in the last year. This has made the
map more complicated and slower to load. Even with my cable access, it
takes too long from my perspective.
You must use the zoom feature to find anyone in your area. Also, on the
left side down a page or so, click on the "view all pins" so you won't
miss anyone. Additionally, you can go through the name listings in the
box to the right of the "view all pins".
I keep trying to get everyone listed so we can find each other. There
are still many Scandinavian Kitfoxers we don't have. I hope they come on
      board soon.

| Subject: | 582 Idle Speed - WAS PRop Drag |

When I pull my throttle all the way out the rpm will go all the way down
      to
1500. Mind you if that happens while on the ground there will be enough
vibration to shake the fillings out of your teeth. That's not good for
      the
      engine or the aircraft.

What kind of tachometer do you have??? The electronic "Kitfox tach or
      one
of the newer digital tachs that have no moving parts e.g. Tiny Tach?
      last
year I had a lot of problems with my engine. By the end of the season
(floats) I came to the conclusion that there was a problem with my tach.
The cheapest most accurate way to tell if I was right was to install a
      tiny
tach. The short story is I was right.

My Kitfox tach was reading 250 rpm high per 1000rpm indicated. e.g.
      2000rpm
indicated was actually 1500rpm, 6800 rpm (take off max) was actually
5100rpm.. Wonder why I had problems getting into the air and climbing
      with
floats or why I had to shim the hinges in my elevator. ( from idle
      vibration)

      Noel,

I haven't been able to get my 582's idle speed below about 2400 rpms.
      I've
adjusted the carb slides and throttle cables, rejetted the idle jets
(twice), everything that's been suggested. It will go no lower. The only
thing I've found that will slow it down further is to apply the choke. I
don't do it for very long, not wanting to soot up my plugs, but by
      making
the prop free-wheel, it works very well to stop the floating.

I was advised to set my idle to around 1500 rpm. and to use that speed
      only
to assist in getting the plane back on the ground. Once on the ground
      speed
the idle up to at least 2000 rpm or higher if required to get the engine
      to
      run smoothly.

I trained on a 4x5 Calumet. The technical school had a whole array of
lenses for it. We also had a heavier monorail with bags the whole works.
The extra movements were always put to good use.

When I started my own business ... Some 35 years ago I picked up a used
monorail 4X5 which I still have. I also cannibalized the largest Kodak
Bellows camera I could find for the lens.... I had to make the lens board
out of sheet aluminium. I could do some minor corrections without getting
into the edge of the lens.

The last jobs I did with it was to make line copy plates for an I.D. card
      printer.

      I've used; 70 mm perf, 70 mm, 35 non perf, 35 perf, 4x5, 5x7,6x6, 6x7 and I
used to do a certain amount of copy work onto 16 mm film through a modified
      enlarger.

I also have a beautiful cherry wood folding 8X10 portrait camera. The
tracks were routed into the wood and it eventually cracked, before I ever
saw it. I re routed the tracks and was trying to get someone with a shaper
to make brass tracks for me. I have a nice lens 9" I think and a working
Packard shutter. Movements aren't much to write home about but it is a
      beautiful camera for portraits.

A couple of 8X10 slides and a couple of 5X7 slides&back round out that set
      up.

If a fellow wanted a hobby to take up all his time a technical camera should
      do it!!

Wind here close to 20 Kt again today...no fun for a little plane on floats!

I've decided to sell/part out the factory Speedster IV I bought a few
weeks ago, and concentrate on finishing my 6. Fabric has been removed,
and has been disassembled. Excluded are: engine, instruments,
windshield. I've gotten estimates to repair the fuselage, and they have
been running $2 - 3,000. Grove gear is slighty bent, and would need to
be sent in at a repair cost of $400. Would be able to deliver for
expenses. I will take offers for the entire assembly first, and if not
sold, will part out. Please email offlist. (cirrus10@qwest.net)

      Regards,
      Ed

John, you've done it now - you've got everyone's interest! Definitely put some
photos, drawings, etc. of your revised linkage up. I would think the dropbox
would be the best place, but that's up to you.

      Michel,
The term 'reflex' flap position I used is the same as the 'negative' flap position
      you referred to on sailplanes.
Your detail discussion of aileron and rudder use in crosswind landings was very
interesting, I had not considered these arguments before. Thank you.

      DeWayne,
I would be more than happy to share my aileron design changes with anyone who is
interested. In general I moved the mixer mechanism to an under the seat position
and then ran push/pull tubes to the outer edges of the fuselage via bellcranks
and then up to the aileron arms. This routing allowed a zipper duffel
bag to be suspended behind the seat for light cargo where the old design occupied
this space with the mixer mechanism. A little application of trigonometry,
in particular the law of sines, to increase differential motion at each bellcrank
and you can achieve any practical degree of differentiation you desire.
This little excursion deeper into 'experimental' consumed over 100 hours of design,
fabrication, and fuselage mods. I can take photos when I do my next annual
conditon inspection if you would like to see them (about two months away).

I don't think Ben is in control of the "Photos" part of Frappr. Just the
map. Is that correct, Ben? It may be that anyone can post anything there,
and evidently they have. Porn should not be allowed there, so I think that
the Frappr administrators are not doing their job.

      						Hi Mark,
I created the Kitfox Frappr Map just for your sort
      of question.
      			http://www.frappr.com/kitfox
I am not the creator of Frappr Maps, I am just the
      administrator of the Kitfox Map.
The map has undergone many upgrades in the last
year. This has made the map more complicated and slower to load. Even with
my cable access, it takes too long from my perspective.
You must use the zoom feature to find anyone in your
area. Also, on the left side down a page or so, click on the "view all pins"
so you won't miss anyone. Additionally, you can go through the name listings
in the box to the right of the "view all pins".
I keep trying to get everyone listed so we can find
each other. There are still many Scandinavian Kitfoxers we don't have. I
hope they come on board soon.
      			Regards,

| Subject: | Kitfox Frappr Map |

Jimmie, Lowell, Eric, and all other Kitfoxers:

I get frustrated with the layout of the Frappr map also. They
continuously change the format and add features that make it difficult
for me to navigate the site. I can't presently find the link to
      administer the site.

The porn pictures are visible on my map but only when I click on the
"Photos" as Jimmie says. The link you clicked was probably the one on
the top of the page to the right. These links are not related to the map
you are viewing. Those photos are recent postings in the Frappr world. .
. and there are some strange ones out there. (I saw one map that some
dude set up to post naked pictures of his wife!!!)

To access the Kitfox pictures, you have to go down the page farther
where there is a band of pictures streaming across the page. There is a
link there to see all the pictures. We do have a great collection of
airplane pictures as well as scenery.

Lowell, I set the Frappr map to center on the East coast, I believe it
was somewhere in Maine, so most of the pins would be seen when the map
first comes up. To move to another position, click and hold on the map
and drag it to a new location. Same thing if you can't read the balloon
of info, just drag the map lower. Personally, I would rather have a
larger map area with less clutter. I am not the creator of the Frappr
site, I just set up the Kitfox Map using their technology. I think it is
a great tool for us to use even though there are some irritating
      features and a less-than-friendly format.

There is a chat room feature on all the maps that I disabled and the new
photos were streaming like our pictures, but I also disabled that. I
thought I did that globally, but if it shows on your map, you should be
      able to change the layout.

I hope that no one decides to leave the map because of the
less-than-perfect format and that we can get more people from around the
world to join. I would also like to see more scenery photos unique to
the Kitfox world. Not all of us get to fly the high mountains, desert,
or the everglades. Even though you see this every time you fly, you
should share it with those of us who don't.

Our map is not searchable. The only people who have the address are on
this list, however, if there should be an inappropriate picture posted,
send me an email and I have the power to delete it.

Jimmie , this what happens when you post on a public site that you do
      not control all the content.
Only way to stop is it use a site that does not allow it . Frappr
      apparently does.
That link "photos " just shows the current sign ups and I just checked
and all those fagoots are buried in about 6 pages deep now. So frappr
did screw all to remove them but as the current photo page is pulled
from database it will show the new users and you will see what ever
gets put up there by using that link.
Is this a reason to not use Frappr ? Well probably not, just now that
you know you will not clik that link again.
You see Sex sells and ads pay very well. I have links on some of my
sites that pay 105$ per signup...... and sex is huge business and that
is what the interent is all about.
Look at google -- just paid 1.6 Billion $ for youtube last week. If
you want some links to join sex site let me know and you can help me
support my family by clicking ads etc ............That is all that
      Frappr does.

      Paul
      I have a series V with a 0-200 , Cruise at 115 MPH at 2400 RPM ( i don't
like to run at 2550 ) get about 1000 FPM climb using a warp drive 3 Blade.
My empty weight is 860 and my motor is at about 1/2 life 700 hr's on it, and
if you are to use the warp drive you should find that it is very smooth and
a lot quieter IMHO than my 2 blade wood prop.

Anyone out there flying a model V with an 0-200 continental 100 hp? A
friend of mine just bought one like this and reports a 85-90 mph cruise
speed and a 400-500 fpm climb rate. The airplane is 900 lbs empty and is
equipped with a Warp drive prop. I have a model 6 specs page that shows a
120 mph cruise and a 1200 fpm climb rate. I realize the factory numbers
might be somewhat optimistic, but are they that far from the truth? Or is
the warp drive the wrong prop for this engine and airframe?

And I do what I can to get them to join, Ben. But, you know, many
pilots don't know the first thing about computers. On this list, we are
      a group within a group.

All; Regarding the offending photos on Frappr, I just had to go and
check "photos." What I was confronted with was not naked men (thanks
God for that!) but ... tits, lots of them. I have nothing against
pornography, for those who want that. But as one who finds it rather
vulgar, I really resent having it invading our homes. A couple of years
ago, I had to take me wife in front of the computer and show her that
when I received an email from a Russian woman who alleged she had met
me on a chat channel; it was not true, it was a spam sent to thousands
of people, with the same text.

Regarding Frappr, I am convinced that it is a very nice place where
people meet people. But, as in so many different places, it is raided
by people who try to sell whatever and, apparently, sex sells well.

      Cheers,

I think that there is a way for the frappr photos and "shout outs" to be
viewed by whom ever the Kitfox frappr administrator is. The person needs
to log on and check the appropriate boxes though.

Jimmie , this what happens when you post on a public site that you do
      not control all the content.
Only way to stop is it use a site that does not allow it . Frappr
      apparently does.
That link "photos " just shows the current sign ups and I just
checked and all those fagoots are buried in about 6 pages deep now. So
frappr did screw all to remove them but as the current photo page is
pulled from database it will show the new users and you will see what
ever gets put up there by using that link.
Is this a reason to not use Frappr ? Well probably not, just now
that you know you will not clik that link again.

            Hi Mark,
I created the Kitfox Frappr Map just for your sort of question.
            http://www.frappr.com/kitfox
I am not the creator of Frappr Maps, I am just the administrator
      of the Kitfox Map.
The map has undergone many upgrades in the last year. This has
made the map more complicated and slower to load. Even with my cable
access, it takes too long from my perspective.
You must use the zoom feature to find anyone in your area. Also,
on the left side down a page or so, click on the "view all pins" so you
won't miss anyone. Additionally, you can go through the name listings in
the box to the right of the "view all pins".
I keep trying to get everyone listed so we can find each other.
There are still many Scandinavian Kitfoxers we don't have. I hope they
      come on board soon.
            Regards,
            Ben

I can't resist. A group of Austrian and English officers (and their wives)
were celebrating the end of the war. An Austrian officer stood up to propose
a toast to the women present. Proud of his english he translated the German
toast "auf die Frauen!" into his less than than perfect understanding of
English. "On the women!" he cried, raising his glass. "Is that an order?"
responded the English officers in chorus.

I would like a viertel of good Wachauer wine for every embarrassing mistake
I have made in German. Language is a great leveller.

To justify this post... The Vienna Kitfox S5 Outback is again approaching
flight worthiness. Some may recall we managed some hops last autumn but what
we thought was a simple carburettor problem (rough running) turned out to be
serious engine problems. Almost 12 months later the new 912S is installed
and just needs all the bits connected and test flying will resume. Will keep
      you posted.

      Floran,
Please check the bottom of your fuselage.. there should be 4
tabs.. 2 between the lift strut mount points and 2 just forward of those
Those 4 points are where the brackets mount. There should not be an
interference with the scoop that is installed on your aircraft.

I didn't see the photos you describe, Jimmie, but I had no luck seeing
a "map". I expected to see a map of the US for example, with pins stuck
in it depicting where we live, etc. I did however see a bunch of other
crap pictures that I had to wade through to try to find the Kitfox
site. This "frapper "thing is not very intuitive to this lame mind, or
to my 10.2.8 Mac machine...whatever, being on "the map" has dropped to
a low priority for me. Is there any other program that is keyed more to
airplanes and not the drivel that I'm seeing on frapper? I even got a
picture of some "dainty" fellow who would "like to meet me" when I
clicked on "you've got mail"...yeah, hold your breath dainty boy!
Need I say he was from San Francisco?

I just got back from a 275.5 statute-mile round trip, which took 2.9
hours. Included was a .4 hr. trip "around the patch" with a friend of
mine. Upon return, I filled the tanks to the rim, like I did just
before leaving. It took 9.5 US gallons. This worked out to 29 mpg, and
3.28 gallons/hour. All figures were via my GPS. I tried to hold to
90mph airspeed, and let the ground speed fall where it may. All speeds
were pretty close whenever I could glance at the gauges...I was pretty
busy flying the plane in the marginal weather....ok weather according
to the FSS. I wonder what weather channel they were watching?

      Hey John,

The forward 2 attach points are actually eyebolts that go through the
floorboards, right? There used to be only the three tabs for the rear
bracket that has 3 attach points.

Please check the bottom of your fuselage.. there should be 4
tabs.. 2 between the lift strut mount points and 2 just forward of those
Those 4 points are where the brackets mount. There should not be an

      --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "darinh" <gerns25@netscape.net>

I have finally finished the mod for accessing my finger strainers...similar to
what Grant did but... As you can see, I had to cut out a section of the rib because
I am using AN hardware straight out of the strainer and there was no way
to get it out with the section of rib in place (the AN elbows are significantly
longer than the elbow supplied with the kit). However, as you can see, the
rib will be glued to the access flange and that will provide the rigidity in
the rib. This rib does not carry any structural loads to speak of so not a problem.
The fabric will be glued to the flange around the access panel and this
will allow for complete and very easy access to the strainer, elbow and connection
to the fuel hose (which is Aeroquip stainless AQP hose and fittings...they
look awesome!). The access panels took a bit of time as I had to make a
plug and fiberglass mold and then lay up the panels. They turned out better than
I could have hoped and fit excellent! Anyway, though you guys might be interested
in what I ended up doing.

      Florin,

My IV has the two between the aft landing gear attach brackets (forfloats, I
think) and a single one forward of that. I don't believe the Model IV had
two forward brackets. I think the forward brackets attached to the floor
board similar to the radiator and shroud.

I think you may be looking too far forward.. There should be 2 between the
lift struts and the other 2 are only 12 forward. They should be aft of the
      radiator not in front of.

The two rear tabs are there but the front two are missing. At least they are
not visible by looking inside the scoop.

      Hey John,

The forward 2 attach points are actually eyebolts that go through the
floorboards, right? There used to be only the three tabs for the rear
bracket that has 3 attach points.

      Floran,
Please check the bottom of your fuselage.. there should be 4
tabs.. 2 between the lift strut mount points and 2 just forward of those...
Those 4 points are where the brackets mount. There should not be an
interference with the scoop that is installed on your aircraft.

I just purchased a cargo pod from John McBean
It looks very good except the mounting brackets supplied will not work on my
speedster and I will have to make my own.
