If the Warp was ordered for the Cont. why was it sold by Warp if they don't recommended it for that engine, and don't take the responsibility for there own products. The Ivo has very thick blades, even thicker then a wood prop, it will not give the same performance as the Warp (in Theory) but the in-flight adjust option compensate a little for this matter. I would recommend a wood prop for all direct drive. or alu for float plane. Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: FlyboyTR To: kitfox-list@matronics.com Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 11:09 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: Vixen: Warp Drive Cracked (Continental Engine) Hello, I have a Series 5 Vixen with a Continental I0-240 (125HP, fuel injected) engine. Prop is a Warp Drive 70", 3 blade taper-tipped, nickle leading edge). Total time is 260 hours. This past weekend (during an out of state trip) I found a crack in one of the collars near the hub. After removal of the prop we found a second blade with a simular crack. Warp Drive will not cover becuase of the "high impulse" engine. This was the recommended prop...way back when... According to Warp I could purchase two new blades! This was really not what I wanted to hear. [Crying or Very sad] My Warp system is now useless. Please understand that I am not knocking Warp Drive. I have flown 1500+ hours behind (and in front of) their product. It's just the combination of a high (sharp) impulse engine and their non-flexing, lightweight prop set-up. At this point I can NOT recommend using Warp with this particular engine. ...I'm not sure about other Continental/Lycoming engines??? Today I ordered a 70" two blade Ivoprop Magnum propeller. It will have the in-flight adjustable option. I look forward to seeing how this works out. I would appreciate any input regarding this problem...and also my choice in replacement propeller. If anyone is interested I could take some pictures of the cracked collars. Let me know. Thanks! :D -------- FlyboyTR Mobile, AL Skystar Vixen Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74316#74316

Here is an interesting tidbit from Acmesport, a LTA mfg company and their request for a reassessment of the current Light Sport Aircraft; Lighter-Than-Air definition. Quick, and easy to read. http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:es8LhgpDU7EJ:www.acmesport.com/images/FAA%2520Request_%2520LS-LTA-1.doc+%22definition+of+maximum+takeoff+weight%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1 If the link above doesnt work, try this below as cut and paste in your address window. http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:es8LhgpDU7EJ:www.acmesport.com/images/FAA%2520Request_%2520LS-LTA-1.doc+%22definition+of+maximum+takeoff+weight%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1 Before you insist that this is not important, realize that the maximum takeoff weight definition is the same for ALL light-sport aircraft. This is a fact. The changes they request would not change the definition, just allow them ( LTA) to fly at an increased maximum takeoff weight Take note of the dependence on the definition of maximum takeoff weight and how they determine it. Remember the ole (1) + (2) + (3) +(4) = maximum takeoff weight ??? Well, here it is in use as it should be. Have a nice day..., Steve -------- Steve: Former Fi-156 'Storch' driver (...talk about folding wings!!!) New owner, not builder- Kitfox V / 912UL / Warp Dr 3 blade. Thanks for the information Jim. Were you able to determine any noticeable performance or stall characteristics at the 3 inch point? I tried the 10% cord and found it to be way too far back. I wound up with them at 3 inches (horizontal) from the leading edge. Will probably go a little closer to the leading edge the next time I apply them. I tried applying fewer than 100 but that did not work as well. Put one pair in each swale between the ribs and false ribs. For what its worth, looking at how the serial numbers were assigned, I would bet the serial numbers listed for the Model 2 in Ed Down's book is a miss print. Seems more likely to me that the 2's would be numbered from 258 to 748. Tom Jones Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74488#74488

    From: "Tom Jones" <nahsikhs@elltel.net>
I am looking for an instructor with a tail wheel Kitfox. Anywhere I guess. I have been shopping for insurance and the only workable offer I have requires 5 hours dual in same model Kitfox. I need to respond with a binder within 30 days. I want to know if the instruction in a Kitfox is even available before I fork out the money. My plane is in phase 1 so using it for instruction is not an option. Flying it without liability insurance is also not an option. My plane has been complete and ready to fly for six years. Now my wife says "Fly it or sell it". I am currently taking tail wheel lessons in a Stinson, the only thing I can find available around here. I live in central Washington but am willing to travel. Lets hear some ideas please. Tom Jones Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74499#74499

I think that Steve (84KF) must be using a symbol set that does not translate well to plain text. If you read the HTML version at http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74450#74450, it is readable. But this brings up an important point, we should all transmit messages in plain text, as that is the standard for email discussions. If you need to transmit a photo with your message, just switch to HTML, then back to plain text. I remember this when it started. There was a guy at one of the Skyster fly-ins with a crack in the aluminum - I don't remember what engine he was running. I thought - and please correct me if I am wrong - that the aluminum ring is non structural and serves to give a smooth metal interface between the composite structure and the hub. I would be curious to know if the crack is continuous with the composite blade or is limited to the aluminum. I just rechecked the book and it does say 448 as the final S/N for Mod II. However John Mc Bean's History page says 748 and that lines up with 749 as the first Mod III so obviously 448 is a misprint. Purely my personal opinion is that there was a gradual phasing in of the modifications for Mod III. This would seem logical to me.
