Each year at the end of the List Fund Raiser, I post a message acknowledging everyone that so generously made a Contribution to support the Lists. Its sort of my way of publicly thanking everyone that took a minute to show their appreciation for the Lists. Won't you take a moment and assure that your name is on that List of Contributors (LOC)? As a number of members have pointed out over the years, the List seems at least - if not a whole lot more - valuable as a building/flying/recreating/entertainment tool as your typical magazine subscription! Please take minute and assure that your name is on this year's LOC! Show others that you appreciate the Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists is fast and easy using your Credit card or Paypal on the Secure Web Site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution or by popping a personal check in the mail to: Matt Dralle / Matronics PO Box 347 Livermore CA 94551-0347 I would like to thank everyone that has so generously made a Contribution thus far in this year's List Fund Raiser! Remember that its YOUR support that keeps these Lists going and improving! Don't forget to include a little comment about how the Lists have helped you! Best regards, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator

I have 660+ hours on my KFIV, all with Chen Seng buffed tires, no tubes and no slippage. 90% of landings are on pavement. This is my 4th set of tires and after the first change; I started going to a local ATV shop to have the tires changed (he can also balance them, but I've not done it yet - will try for the next set). Its a bargain not to have the hassle or worry about a tire shop bending the rims - which happened the one time I went to a tire shop. Harold

Wow this is a great response! I received another possibility off list too! Ron, my plane is a Model 4. I have tried to contact Andrew in Salem but haven't been successful yet. His offer was for instruction in the student's plane. He has a model 3. I do not know if he wants to use it for instruction. I need to call the insurance company to get clear what they mean by "Same make and model Kitfox". I am going to persue the two offers I have. There are a few hoops to jump through yet so I am still interested in more ideas as a contingency. keep em comming. Ed, What prop did he end up going with? I'm afraid that one round of cracking is enough for me...especially with all the stories of the Warp Drive cracking. Way back when... I had problems with the tires slipping on the rims. We always ran very low air pressure (very rough field). Our fix was to drill six equally spaced holes in the bead of the rim (both sides). Then we carefully screwed in a #6X3/8 stainless sheet metal screw. They were never long enough to go all the way through the bead of the tire, but provided enough grip to STOP the tire from slipping on the rim. Hi, I am in the process of purchasing a KitFox, and need a way to get it home. Does anyone have or know of anyone that has an enclosed trailer that will accept a Model IV Speedster, that they would like to sell? Thanks very much! Nick Scholtes

Forwarded from Kifox owner not on List. Deke Deke - That guy with the Warp drive cracking problem with the IO-240B. This was addressed by Skystar via a Bulletin a long time ago, I read in the thread about putting a Ivoprop Magnum on it with inflight adjustable hub. If you can please post this, because unless he puts about 20 pounds of ballast in the tail, that combination with an IO-240B is simply not going to balance. I have a wood sensenich, which is probably 15 lb.s lighter than that Ivo, and I'm at the forward end of the envelope (less ballast). I put 12 pound's in the tail to get the CG at a more reasonable location. Jeff Hays N85AE Series 5, IO-240B

Thanks for the reminder. My quick calculations show that I will be at the forward CG limit with the additional weight. Once installed, I may add some weight to the tail for peace of mind. Plan to increase the size of the battery next year anyway...it is in the tail of the plane. Thanks again for your input! All of this is very interesting to me as my model 2 is S/N 493 and I will have problems trying to carry most adult sized passengers for more than about an hour long ride if I stay within the 950 gross. If I could increase the gross to 1050 it would make a great deal of difference to me about keeping this model. It also seems possible that improvements could have been introduced on the assembly line before the official release of the model 3 specs. I have not searched for exact measurements for the changes between the model 2 and 3. I have only seen comments like "larger rudder" and "stronger struts and carry through" without specific numbers. Does anyone think we can determine at what S/N and above by measuring? Rex Colorado Noel Loveys wrote: > >Thanks Lowell: > >I have had a few answers back from Dee Young. The question is -- Where is the original prototype Kitfox 1 ? Does anyone know what happened to it . Maybe it never faired that well ? If you find out , then you might see why it was built stronger in later models. I am looking for an instructor with a tail wheel Kitfox. Anywhere I guess. I have been shopping for insurance and the only workable offer I have requires 5 hours dual in same model Kitfox. I need to respond with a binder within 30 days. I want to know if the instruction in a Kitfox is even available before I fork out the money. Hi ! Tom, Goodluck with getting instruction and insurance. I'm in Australia so I guess what applies to me may not to you but I was fortunate that here one can train in their own plane according to our rules although the authorities don't seem to want it to happen. Anyway I was able to get my tail wheel endorsement and also cross country Navigation in my plane. Also part of our membership with our governing body Recreational Aviation Australia [ it was Australian Ultralight Federation ] gets us $5 million third party liabillitty cover. Our annual membership is about $140 so it's a good deal I think. Rex.

Rex, I have a couple of generous offers on the training so things are looking up. We can use our own planes for instruction in the US, but not an experimental while it is in its initial flight test period...called phase 1. This is usually 40 hours, except sometimes with a certified engine and propeller combination it is reduced to 25 hours. Yes, I would say that Ausi insurance is a good deal. Just curious as to what the source might be for "up to date" fuel prices. bob U. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob" <dswaim1119@comcast.net> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 7:56 AM Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Bluetooth GPS Receiver > > I found PocketFMS worked OK, but had some quirks and didn't have half of the functions of AnywhereMap. Also, living in the Washington DC area, I absolutely need to know that the Special Flight Restrictions are up to date and that the map is dead-solid updated and accurate. I've used Anywheremap with a Bluetooth receiver for a couple of years on a PocketPC and it's been good. Watch for a sale (typically timed with OSH and Sun-N-Fun) and it'll be $95, but is worth the full subscription price, anyway. While in-flight, it will give up-to-date fuel prices for any airport you designate and then sort prices for all airports within something like 40-50 miles. It's easily paid for itself in fuel savings. > > My only caveat is to keep a paper map, even if it's out-dated, because I've had a lock-up (frozen map) on my old Garmin (don't remember model #) and the PocketPC. It's pretty apparent that the display stops moving and the world is still moving past, but if the electronic map were all you had, you'd be left guessing where the nearest airports and restricted airpace would be. > > Bob > > -------- > Remember that internet advice may only be worth what you pay. > > > Read this topic online here: > > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74139#74139 > >

A retired airline caption flew my model 4 for the its first flight six years ago and then offered to fly the rest of the 40 hours off. He loved the little kitfox but I wanted to fly the test phase myself. So here I am six years down the road and getting closer. I can take off land the Stinson now with out things getting too out of hand. Tom Jones Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=74928#74928
