I put a small tab on my rudder. It seems to keep the plane pretty
straight
at most flight attitudes. Previous to the tab installation I would come
back from an hour of flying with cramps in my right foot.
The gap seals sound like a good idea more rudder authority will give a
better slip performance too! As you say the seals will help reduce drag
not
that its a big concern to me the plane will never see warp factor 1!!

MessageNoel , do you havea ventral fin on your Kitfox while on floats ?
I have flown with and without and find with the fin it flys with less
control power needed for rudder pedals.
Without the fin it wass like flying on train tracks with very stiff
rudder.
Gaps seals, I have not done but I have good elevator authority but will
you gain anything from it speed wise ?

I have an in flight adjustable IVOPROP ultralight. One of the blades has developed
a small nick about the size of an eraser head. It's deap enough that the weave
in the fiberglass is exposed. Is it possible to repair this or should I just
replace the blade?

Warp recommends mixing up some epoxy and microballoons to fill in the nicks.
When its completely cured, file/sand smooth and paint (optional). I would
assume IVO would be similar. Then again, you could send it to IVO for them
to evaluate and repair.

in.
Mine holds at any flap setting in flight fine

Jerry,
It is held in place by friction. You have to tighten the control handle
until in flight air pressure will no longer move it. Looks like a poor
system but it does work.

Mine is 450 empty.... 1/2 fuel solo ( I am 175) IVO 3 blade that is
better than my original CGS.... on a CALM day I dont come near 100 feet... and
I
have measured.... closer to 200 feet Climb solo is 1,000 to 1,400 fpm
cruise 80 mph at 5,800 75 at 5,600 speed checked with GPS in different
directions.. Climb RPM is usually 6,300 sometimes 6,400
I am not saying its impossible... but TO in 1/2 the distance is
impressive.. :-)
PS These numbers are off a grass field..

Yes the ventral fin attaches to the front cross through tube and the
support
for the tail wheel spring. I was able to design a simple stinger to
bolt
through with it... They say it's not really a floatplane without the
stinger. ;-)

I have tried with and without flaps and adding flaps just before
rotation... a bit better. But there is a big difference from 200 feet to 96
at
gross :-) my runway is 70 feet wide and I have done a TO across... but, there
was a strong breeze :-)
My runway is about 750 long "the nice" grass is about 375 feet. I dont
think I have ever used more than 400 gets too bumpy LOL
The more difficult part is landing, one needs to be careful to make sure
your slow enough over the threshold. Downwind at cruise (80) On base I bleed
speed to 65, turning onto final at 65 mid final 55 short final 42 to 45 not 47
... if 50 go around. I bleed the last 8 or so mph during flare which
starts about 100 feet before end of runway.
Before the Kitfox, I had a Kolb firestar slightly better at STOL. Between
the 2, I have flown around 600 hours from here.
We are so lucky. I have a Warrior 2 that I am a partner in and fly that a
lot... fun too. Nice to have 4 seats and 125 to 130 mph... But for the pure
joy of flying there is nothing like these light planes. NOTHING :-)
In fact with a good friend in a trike a cpl months ago we flew over 850
miles and 14 airports in 4 days. Probably the best flying trip I ever had...

OK, this is my first post here on Matronics, so please forgive me if I break some
cardinal rule. I tried to make my first part #22003 Rear Spar Attach Reinforcement
(for Model 4-1200) and I think I may have shaved off a wee bit too much
metal. I will try to attach a picture of the part so that some of you experts
can give me some guidance. At this point I am thinking that the part may
still be used, but will have to be checked at every pre-flight.

Polyester gel coat
Polyester fiber glass resin
2 part epoxy

Right or wrong on this part will depend upon what you
have left, of course. I think I built 1.3 Kitfox's to
cover the "not quite good enough" parts I remade.
Some are remade just for looks, but if it is critical,
you don't want to be flying wondering if it is good
enough. Make a new one and be sure. To me, the rear
attachment falls into the "make sure" category rather
than the preflight check category.
Let's see what others say.
But go ahead and attach a pic, if nothing else than
for practice, and confirmation from all on what they
would do. We like to discuss stuff here.... :-)

Actually, I first thought of viking helmit horns doing
something bad during stalls.... ;-)
First sign of a Norwegian stall? Your helmit sticks
to the skylight...
For me, stalls are usually fine. But if I haven't
spun in a while, there is usually a strange noise
coming from the cockpit.

I send my question to the Kitfox company, but last time I asked them for info it
took something like 2 weeks to get a reply. Does anyone know if I can purchase
part #22003 (or have a spare for sale)? If not, I guess will seriously consider
those spar inserts from Blueskyaviation.

My best contact for this is Michel, or Norski sailor
and computer hacker....
Michel. Can you take Lynn's pics, reduce them and
post them to the old Sportflight site?
I made my verticle stab ribs by taking the one bottom
rib to a copy machine and making a copy of it before
installing it. Then I used the % reduction function
on the copier to make the other ribs to size. Cut
them from hobby shop plywood and that was that.
Unfortunately I will not be home to help with this for
over a week. Michel! Can you help?

I wish I would have used the inserts. They look like a lot better way to do
it. If not just build some new parts. Spar attach points tend to be
important.
