FAA Advisory Circular No: 150/5190-6 is drawn from FAA Order 5190.6A "Airport Compliance
Requirements" a FAA 9.94 MB PDF file.
http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/airports/resources/publications/orders/index.cfm?sect=obligations
This is (also) must reading for when discussing aircraft owners rights to
operations, self-servicing and maintenance. (at federal funded airports)

It's taken him some fiddling to learn how to make it work, but a friend has used
Routebuddy to get Garmin data into his Mac. Or you can wait (again) for Garmin's
next version of MapSource software:

I've also seen simple V-shaped self-adhesive door weatherstrip, purchased from
the Aviation Department of any local Home Depot. As with any gap seal, it makes
it more important in pre-flight inspection to make sure twigs or other debris
isn't resting in the gap.

Cool Floyd! Thanks for sharing.
I don't need this right now, but it is going into my "keeper" file.

Rudder trim:
A neat trick I learned from Graham Loucks in the UK, was to attach a 1/4
inch diameter bungy cord to the rudder pedal.
I use a sailboat "line lock" to grip and hold the cord in position . The two
cams just lock it in position. I can set my trim infinitely
It requires a small pully on the firewall in front of the rudder pedal and I
attached the "line lock" to the bottom edge of my instrument panel. Need
more rudder? Pull the bungy tighter. Need less? Pop it out of the lock and
back in and retighten it.
It is very simple and effective.

Gary,
I have a custom made Kitfox trailer that I'm planning on selling. (I have a hangar
now!) The trailer was custom made for a Kitfox IV and has trailered a Kitfox
across country (Interstates, etc.). The trailer comes complete with electric
brakes and a built-in gas tank with hose (for fueling the Fox). The trailer
is Very Heavy Duty. You could carry cars with this thing. Evidently, the
guy that originally made it owned one of those equipment rental companies - you
know, the companies that rent Bobcat tractors and such. He built it so you
could carry anything. Much stronger than a boat trailer. However, it's an open
trailer. It's a good one, but an open design.
If you want to talk about it, send me an email & I'll forward my contact info to
you.

have questions. Does anyone have any experience trailering their Kitfox
for longer distances especially on interstates, and frequently. In the next year
or so, I am going to be traveling alot, and I want to take the Kitfox that
I buy along with me. I have seen several of the open modified boat trailers
that have been in use, but I am going to be hauling longer than just to the airport
and home. I have thought that I really want an enclosed trailer to better
protect the airplane, especially from vandalism, and the elements. I am planning
on buying a Series 5, and I understand that it is a very tight fit in a
8ft 6in wide trailer, along with the heigth. I would really appreciate it if
any of you with the vast wealth of knowledge that I have seen, can give me some
input.

I would think the narrowest trailer possible would be best. Allow a couple
of inches on each side for padding at the wing level. Make sure the plane
is well tied down inside the trailer. A small electric ATV winch mounted in
the front of the trailer will make loading a lot easier and provide a tie
down for the tail wheel. Try to arrange it so the main gear is just aft of
the wheels for balance and tongue weight. Make sure you always have one
blade of your three blade prop, if installed, is pointing down for loading.
A "Y" shaped towbar that attaches to the main gear may help unloading.
There are some custom made trailers for snowmobiles that will carry as many
as six machines and have a boat point front to them that could be perfect
for the long haul with a Kitfox.

"The builder had simply used 4" pinked tape on the gaps. How effective
would that be?
I've seen it used on other aircraft."I have this on my Avid, and it
works great. It is an AD on the Tiger Moth to use pinkedtape as gap
seals on all control surfaces including the ailerons. It's been on the
Mothfor at least 30yrs that I know of with no problems.larry

Also check on the rues of the Airport Advisory Council. There may not be a
quorum in place. If you turn up you may have every right to elect yourself
president of the council and form a coup. Today the key to the gate
tomorrow... The washroom! :-)

With my model 3, I never managed to do a proper 3-points landing
before I fixed the elevator with some tape, John. So I guess, yes, it
makes a difference. Now I have it also on the rudder, for crosswind
landing.
Cheers,
Michel
