I'm trying to figure out what your motivation is for beating this
poor, bloody, mutilated, dismembered horse even further. I can only
come up with a few possibilities:
1. You're looking for validation. You want someone to agree with you
and you are willing to re-hash your point and suggest that others are
not "free thinkers" as many times as necessary to reach that end.
Seems rather pointless, really.
2. You like to argue. You consider disagreements to be a form of recreation.
3. You believe that you are more clever than others, or even than the
FAA. You feel that you've found some hidden truth or loophole that
the rest of us are too dense to realize and this provides you with a
sense of satisfaction. The more times you can bring it up, the more
fulfilled you feel.
4. You're delusional. You really do believe that "maximum takeoff
weight" refers to "today's takeoff weight" or that the explanatory
commentary in the federal register carries the same weight as the law
as spelled out in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
5. You are trying to induce someone else to operate under your
interpretation of the rules. Could there be a more irresponsible
motive?
Regardless, it's hard to imagine that even you are still enjoying
this topic. I hope you have fun with it on the other list.

You are the one that doesn't get it, Steve. Every time an e-mail is
sent to the list server OR a message is posted on the web site, you
are absolutely sending an e-mail to the personal e-mail box of every
member of this list. You have no more right to demand that readers
use the web site than they have to demand that you use only e-mail.
It is this in-your-face attitude that keeps getting you thrown off
this list. Why do you insist on treating others as though they are
idiots? If the poster were standing in front of you would you speak
to him that way? You complain about others being rude, yet your
behavior is by far the most egregious.

The time to hang up the head set has finally arrived for me
So due to the liability exposure I'm going to scrap my non flying 10 year
old 600 hour
mod 4 with 582 engine
If any one wants it for parts its free if you pick it up , I cannot deliver
it
There are no log books or parts lists or registration
Its as is where is
Location is Kingston , NY
cfbflyer@localnet.com
**********************************************************************
I thought that might go over as a good joke, but I'm overwhelmed with offers
to take it.
----------------------
as I understand the 51% rule you can't recertify a plane that has been
scraped and some of
the memo's sound like that is what is intended.
as I understand the liability I am the builder and if I sell it as a
certified plane and
someone ( no matter who) lands in a field and kills a cow any friend of the
cow can sue
me or my estate because I am the builder. that is why I will not let it go
as a certified
plane.
---------------------
so lets start over and only people that can realistically come and get the
plane respond and
include your email address , I have some difficulty using the phone, and I
will go into
detail on its
condition without cluttering up the forum.
it is in my shed with the wings folded, not at an airport.
thanks to all that have responded to my posting.
Have a good day Charlie

Subject: | Re: Bing Carb Flooding |
These small, but high horsepower 2-strokers are great engines and if
properly maintained will provide great performance for a reasonable price.
I've flown behind both the 503 and 582, and although completely different
powerplants, they both did their jobs well attached to the airplanes that
were designed for them. The only thing that was a minus (IMO) was that they
required periodic tinkering to keep them in top performance. One of the big
things was the jetting that was very sensitive to ambient temperature, but
once it was understood it was just a matter of making occasional jet changes
to keep things ticking efficiently. I spent about $75 on idle and main jets
and kept them in the airplane. It took nearly as long to get the cowlings
off as it did to change out jets so tuning was a very minor issue.
The other important thing that required periodic adjustment was the prop.
As things cooled off or heated up the air density would put more or less
load on the prop and an adjustment would need to be made to keep takeoff
RPMs and EGTs in an acceptable range. Obviously one can't be changing
things as the temps of the day change as one would be tinkering more than
flying, but as the seasons change...
Sorry for the rambling it's early in the morning and once my coffee takes
effect I tend to do that. :-)
What I meant to ask was how was the performance of the 503 in your IV?

Subject: | Re: Mielage: Fuel consumption based on gallons per hour |
I did a little checking and this is rough.
In 2002, the first flight to the Idaho back country, I flew from O61 to RIU
a distance of about 15 miles to join up with the group then off to WMC for
fuel. The trip included the landing at RIU, and subsequent TO, a climb to
9-10,000 ft. to clear the Sierras and then the flight across Nevada to WMC.
Flight Planning Software gives the distance as 223 miles. As we usually fly
along the roads and river canyons it is more than that, but using those
fugures and the 7.7 gallons of fuel I used. It comes out to 28.96 mpg.
Also among the variables is the fact that we always fly to the speed of the
slowest airplane and we had a 582 powered IV with us. The trip took almost
exactly three hours from RIU to WMC.

Deke,
Cruise speed was about 94-96 indicated. The prop I had didn't allow me to
put very much pitch in and still get off the ground in a reasonable distance
so I was only able to use a little bit of throttle or I would over-rev the
engine. I hope to report soon on my performance with the new prop, ( I am
still experimenting with pitch.) but it has added easily 10 mph to my
cruise speed and gets me off the ground very quickly. It is like a
different plane.
Cruise now is with the throttle much further in, so I think I am burning
more fuel, but still it has been in the 3 - 3.5 gal/hr range in my playing
around and going to area fly-ins. The 912S is an amazing engine -
especially compared to the lycosaurous engines some of my friends are flying
behind.

That's some great fuel economy Randy. What sort of average cruise speeds
were you getting for the trip?

I will throw out one data point for a series 5 with series 7 firewall
forward and 912S.
>From Rapid City, South Dakota to just past the other side of South Dakota -
Sioux Center Iowa. 390 miles, 430 miles on I-90, about 4.3 hours on clock,
one stop, 13 gal premium car gas 30 miles per gallon.
I now have a better prop and am quite a bit faster and burning more like 3.3
gal/hr.

The subject of fuel consumtion has so many variables: speed, engine,
altitude, airplane, weight, inclusion/exclusions, averages, etc, etc
Now here is a chanllange for those who have been flying some longer
x-country flights and have computed AVERAGE trip milages.
What is your average MILAGE e. g. st miles/gal or n miles/gal??
Here some recent data for an RV-6A based on total gl used for the total GPS
milage flown from Denver / Tucson / southern Calf/ Albuquerque/Denver
(includes one hour of sight seeing and all taxiing etc)
Total GPS milage: 2000 nml
Total fuel: 102 gl
Average milage: 22.5 gl/st ml

What do you think Don, Mike? This is the same 84kf (Steve) that has been
causing so much trouble. Yank his new address? He obviously isn't changing
his method of confrontation and will just continue to use our list to
dragoon our members to his new list. This guy enjoys turmoil. Getting into
an argument with him is what he wants.
Ban his IP address?
I'm not hearing anything back from Matt.

There's nobody on their list, but the two of them. I think they're lonely.
(Obviously for a reason). My three year old acts a lot like the way they do
when he's cooped up too much with nothing to do. Sometimes we turn on
cartoons, or the muppets for him to watch. Maybe this might help here
too????

I have been thinking about this for a few days. The one difference I
have
heard was the use of Microsoft Plus to compose the messages. I'm
thinking
if he composed directly into the E-Mail client the code would
disappear.
The Email client, Outlook or Outlook Express, needs to have the outgoing
messages formatted for "text rich" script. I'm going to intentionally
put
some of this code into this post hoping it won't come through as
squiggly
lines. If it does come through as the squiggly lines I apologize and
assure
you it is the last time you will see code form me, If not, I have found

what is causing the code. And all that has to be done is avoid
composing in

When I was selling a Beech Sport last year (late version of Musketeer) and looking
for the next project, I made the attached charts. Don't remember what a gallon
of gas cost at that point, but the Beech was getting expensive fast. The
Kitfox data came from SkyStar and a few numbers that forum members put up (hence
the spread). The RV9A data is from one airplane, belonging to my boss.

I have been thinking about this for a few days. The one difference
I have heard was the use of Microsoft Plus to compose the messages.
I'm thinking if he composed directly into the E-Mail client the code
would disappear. The Email client, Outlook or Outlook Express, needs to
have the outgoing messages formatted for "text rich" script. I'm going
to intentionally put some of this code into this post hoping it won't
come through as squiggly lines. If it does come through as the squiggly
lines I apologize and assure you it is the last time you will see code
form me, If not, I have found out what is causing the code. And all
that has to be done is avoid composing in Plus.

I have no idea what "source code" is, but when I read it on my eMac,
there was no problem reading it. How it differed from any other post
is the following: The words Microsoft Plus was bold and underlined.
Email (as in Email client) was bold. the words "text rich" was within
quote marks...like I hope it appears when I just typed it. The word
code was normal font, but in red color. The word squiggly was in
italics.
Hope this helps...from a Mac point of view...and I realize that us
Mac guys are few and far between. : )
And to answer your question from the other day:
"Just wondering if there is actually any one out there who will admit to
having a big problem with reading the little bit of code that is in
some of
the posts? If I had a big problem with it I wouldn't let on."
I had a problem with some of Steve's posts where he was (I think)
quoting from the Register, and there was a LOT of characters that
were hard to understand, and I think that this was my Mac's way of
interpreting a quote. In other words, the "gibberish" came at the
start and the end of a "passage", if I can call it that.
But it wasn't a "big problem", and I could read it, but it would have
been nice if it wasn't there...the weird characters, not Steve's
posts necessarily. Kidding Steve, just kidding. : )

OK now, no secrets my friend. What is that prop that you're

Deke,
Cruise speed was about 94-96 indicated. The prop I had didn't allow
me to put very much pitch in and still get off the ground in a
reasonable distance so I was only able to use a little bit of throttle
or I would over-rev the engine. I hope to report soon on my performance
with the new prop, ( I am still experimenting with pitch.) but it has
added easily 10 mph to my cruise speed and gets me off the ground very
quickly. It is like a different plane.
Cruise now is with the throttle much further in, so I think I am
burning more fuel, but still it has been in the 3 - 3.5 gal/hr range in
my playing around and going to area fly-ins. The 912S is an amazing
engine - especially compared to the lycosaurous engines some of my
friends are flying behind.

That's some great fuel economy Randy. What sort of average cruise
speeds were you getting for the trip?

I will throw out one data point for a series 5 with series 7
firewall forward and 912S.
From Rapid City, South Dakota to just past the other side of South
Dakota - Sioux Center Iowa. 390 miles, 430 miles on I-90, about 4.3
hours on clock, one stop, 13 gal premium car gas 30 miles per gallon.
I now have a better prop and am quite a bit faster and burning more
like 3.3 gal/hr.

The subject of fuel consumtion has so many variables: speed,
engine, altitude, airplane, weight, inclusion/exclusions, averages,
etc, etc
Now here is a chanllange for those who have been flying some longer
x-country flights and have computed AVERAGE trip milages.
What is your average MILAGE e. g. st miles/gal or n miles/gal??
Here some recent data for an RV-6A based on total gl used for the
total GPS milage flown from Denver / Tucson / southern Calf/
Albuquerque/Denver (includes one hour of sight seeing and all taxiing
etc)
Total GPS milage: 2000 nml
Total fuel: 102 gl
Average milage: 22.5 gl/st ml

Trutrack Flight Systems makes some great solid state

Hello Charlie,
Sorry to hear about you hanging up the headset. I'm sure you enjoyed the 600 hours
spent in the Kitfox. I am in the process of learning about airframes and engines.
I am in Connecticut and would love to pick up the Kitfox. I will use it
as a learning project for me and my boys. never to be used. I understand your
concerns about liability.
Please email me at damen69@comcast.net
I can pick it up anytime with a car trailer.

I have Plus installed on my other computer I'll try to get the code and then
we will know how to get rid of it. Steve said he composes his messages in
Plus word and I'll bet that is where the problem lies. I wonder why he
doesn't just compose directly into his E-Mail client. Maybe if he reads
this he'll let us know.

Lynn that is exactly what you should have gotten on that test post. The
E-Mail client was supposed to recognize the code to cause the changes you
described and mot confound the post with straight data code.
Did you notice it was in Times New Roman 14 Pt font and the signature at the
end was I an old English script... I use that one at Christmas.
I still think it has something to do with the use of Microsoft Plus to
compose his posts.....

A couple of days ago I wrote re my back carby flooding every few weeks.
Thanks for the comments some of which I may look into but in the meantime
I decided to take another look in the carb bowls etc even though I was not
having trouble at the moment. I found some little black spots that just
disolved as soon as soon as you went near them. If you put your finger on
them you got black on your finger. Certainly didn't seem like anything to
cause flooding. I was expecting hard grit or something. another strange
thing was it was only in the rear carby bowl.
Anyway apart from this I reasoned that the problem should be coming from
after the filter so I determined to change the hoses after the filter. All
these are on the engine side of the firewall and thus covered in heat proof
sleeves. I found all of them were that Mil 6000 stuff that was banned
and also supposed to be changed out by a LAME in my plane. It now turns
out he changed all visible hoses only. Guess that's a good reason to do
your own maintainence.
Well it may take months of no trouble [ I hope ] to see if this was the
cause so that's why I'm now reporting what I found.
It looks like that Mil spec rubber fuel line really is rubbish. I would
have thought if it was Mil spec it would be good. I couldn't make up my
mind what to replace it with but in the end I've gone with automotive
rubber stuff. I wasn't sure about the plastic lines like Tygon and Bing
firewall forward. They seem to be OK up to 200 to 250 deg F but is that
enough ?
Thanks again for the comments
