Guy, I'm no expert on the bing. But I do know many of the parts are the same between. So I'm going to assume that the 64 operates the same. High or low floats will effect the fuel entering the main jets for the fuel transfer is straight up and out. As far as being a nut, I except your explaination. I am a person full of energy and sitting idle is not my game. I always have to be doing something. -------- kitfoxmike model IV, 1200 speedster 912ul Do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=106485#106485

Guy, I don't want to be uncooperative, and my only stake in this is a set of free VGs for doing the experimenting. Please understand that Art (CCI) is a business and desires to keep spacing propitiatory. His instructions has all the information needed. I'm happy to report that it works very well and is money well spent; especially in the tail improvements! Larry, you might want to clarify this with the list. It wasn't clear from your previous post that you were compensated for your efforts. >Please understand that Art (CCI) is a business and desires to keep >spacing propitiatory. His instructions has all the information needed. I understand. I was really asking whether they were on the bottom or top. And anyway, VG spacing can never be proprietary, unless you plan to only fly at night out of Area 51! ;-) Anyone who sees your aircraft at a fly-in will be able to replicate your placing. The reason I would pay Art for his VG's are for his parts and service. > I'm happy to report that it works very well and is money well > spent; especially in the tail improvements! I'm glad. Unfortunately my interest will have to wait further information on the wing, as I do not see the difficulties you had with your stab. Charles, What you are looking for is the Suspa gas spring C-16-10788/ It has a 12.2" extended length and an 8.3" compressed length and a 35# force. It can be ordered from: http://www.jlkrakercompany.com/suspa_cylinder_pricing.htm I am sure there are other manufacturers and suppliers, but this is one source for the original supplied Skystar and Denney gas springs. > The instructions I have say adjust it so that the slide valve is completly at the top of the venturi. The drawing along with the instructions shows the air cleaner side completly at the top of the venturi but the tang hanging down a couple milimeters into the venturi. How are some of you running? Here's some more on this. My bing 54 carb throttles were adjusted so that the hanging down part of the slide was even with the top of the venturi which put the air cleaner side of the slide a few milimeters above the top of the venturi. There was a little free play left in the throttle cable when the stop was contacted at full throttle so no strain on the throttle cable ends. I have the Arctic Sparrow adjustable needles and they would not turn at full throttle...not that they need to be adjusted at full throttle...but this was telling me there was some kind of strain going on with the sparrow needle cables with this setting. I called CPS yesterday to get their expert opinion as something seemed to not be right. His answer couldn't have been more vague. I still didn't know the answer after talking with them. I then adjusted the throttle cable so that the air cleaner side of the slide was even with the top of the venturi and the manifold side is hanging down into it a few milimeters. I get the same static RPMs (6200) as before and the sparrow needle cables will turn at all throttle settings. The Rotax manuals seem to lose something...okay, a lot...in the translation. Rotax Tom, The artic sparrow needles are silver soldered onto the thread. Is it possible that they are hitting the top? If you slides are opening all the way and both carbs are synced You are likely ok. The higher your slides go the higher your needles go and come out of the main jet. Are you EGTs reading ok in cruise ? And do the spark plugs indicate a good fuel burn ? Do you have a fuel flow meter? If so what is your readings are different rpms ? Your prop might be set properly here and you would not get more rpm with even bigger jetting as the next obstacle is your exhaust which is timing your exhaust pulse and allowing for only so much scavenging right now. Hey you can get 100 HP out of a 582 but it will be in a narrow power band and you will use alot more fuel and have less reliability. Charles: There's a vendor on e-bay who sells gas struts. Search on "suspa" and "C-16-10788." I bought 2 new in original packaging for what you'll pay for one anywhere else. As I recall, that was the "buy it now" price. Thanks, Kurt. Another crash and another re-boot with the default values. A local computer whiz is building me a new tower with all the bells and whistles including Windows Vista, and was supposed to deliver it one day this week, but it hasn't gotten here yet. Hopefully I can finish this message and send it before I have to do another re-boot. That process requires sitting here beside the computer and nursing it along past a couple of glitches. Very frustrating. We were fortunate in having no wind damage here, but much of the green which was appearing on the landscape has turned brown thanks to the freezing weather. I'm just glad I don't have a bunch of money invested in an orchard as this years fruit crop in Kentucky is probably going to be a wipeout. I'm still in the process of getting my little Rans S14 ready for an airworthiness inspection. I can't remember whether I told you or not, but a mechanic for UPS who is a DAR and lives only about 25 miles from here (Mark Cottrell) is going to do the job for me. Dave, the EGts are in the green and even with each other. By my calculations and verified by EGts I would say the engine is completely up on the main jets at just under 3/4 throttle and 4800-5000 RPM range. The 503 seems to have plenty of power. Much more than I expected. I am just trying to figure out if there is a reason the CPS carb set up instructions show a drawing of the carb with the window skirt on the manifold side of the slide valve hanging down into the venturi at full throttle. Does it serve a purpose that isn't obvious to me? Tom Jones Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=106548#106548

Rotax Tom, I looked this up and it concurs with what Don said, I agree open it up all the way. Dave PS EGT gauge is a gauge of what is going on realitime but the spark plugs will tell the story for real. http://www.ultralightnews.com/enginetroublshooting/techtips/techtips1.htm Next have someone apply throttle SLOWLY while you watch the slides. The slides should BOTH start up at the same time. If not adjust using the two adjusters located at the top of the carb. Once you have them starting up at the same time open them all the way up and make sure that the slide is completely clear at its upper most throttle position. You now know you have both carbs starting at the same time and that they are both opening up to full throttle. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Jones" <nahsikhs@elltel.net> Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 3:02 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Carb slide position at full throttle on a two stroke Rotax > > Dave, the EGts are in the green and even with each other. For those of you out there who aren't aware of it, Don Pearsall and I have been the co-administrators for the kitfox for a lot of years. After long period of discussions between Don and I, I'm posting this message to announce my retirement from the duties of Kitfox List Administration. Many years ago Don and I simultaneously assumed the management of the list. Previous to that Don hosted it and Jim Crowder was the moderator. It even goes much farther back than that, but that's another story. It's been a very rewarding job that has led us through several challenges, including the complete loss of list functions due to server problems, changes to hosting entities, and finally to where we made the decision to move to Matt Dralle's Matronics where things have been more automated and very stable. It was a lot of work making the changes, but the result was worth the effort. It was a couple of years ago that Don and I started talking about retiring. Don sold his project a few years ago and he no longer has a Kitfox and has been spending his time, money, and effort as list admin out of the kindness of his heart. I'm still flying my Kitfox and have no immediate intention of changing that, but I've been doing this for a very long time and we've both decided that the time has come for us to gracefully bow out and leave the administrative functions to some new blood. Shortly you'll be receiving an introduction letter from long-time list members Guy Buchanan and Michael Gibbs as new list administrators. They're both very capable guys and I have no doubt that they'll do an effective and fair job in the management process. I have no doubt that you will all give them the full support that you've given to Don and I. Best Regards, Deke Morisse S5 NE Michigan

Subject: New List administrators coming on board
After 13 years of being on the Kitfox List, being banned from the Kitfox List and then ending up moderating the Kitfox list I have decided to turn my job over to Michael Gibbs, a longtime member and contributor of the list. I have enjoyed every day of communicating with all the members here and it has been an enormous help to me both in building a Kitfox as well as making good friends around the world. Through the list I was able to speak with and get to know 100's of people that I would never have otherwise been aware of. I am sure it is the same with you too. The List has gone through many changes. The founding member, Jim Simmons of Boulder, CO first hosted the site through colorado.edu, then switched to his internet provider sni.net, and then I took over the hosting job and hosted the list through sportflight.com. In 2003, Deke and I made the hard decision to move the list to Matronics so we could have a more professional hosting service and that is where the list resides now. If you want to take a trip down memory lane, all the list messages are still available. You can view the messages from 1994 - 2000 through my website http://sportflight.com/archives/. From year 2000 to 2003 you can view the messages via a Yahoo archive at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kitfoxlist/, and of course all messages from 2003 to present are available here on the Matronics site. I want to specifically thank Deke Morisse for co-administering the list. He has spent 100's of hours over the years helping monitor the list and being pro-active in preventing problems. He has done this for no other reward than to make the list available for all members. Thanks Deke! Don Pearsall

Don and Deke, I too would like to express my deepest appreciations for the work and dedication you have given in maintaining our Kitfox List. Truly with out this List I would have never completed my plane. It has been invaluable. Best wishes in your retirements and please keep in touch. Best Regards Roger Mac N619RM -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Don Pearsall Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 7:49 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: New List administrators coming on board After 13 years of being on the Kitfox List, being banned from the Kitfox List and then ending up moderating the Kitfox list I have decided to turn my job over to Michael Gibbs, a longtime member and contributor of the list.

Deke and Don, Thank you for your many years of service. Your leadership has proved to be the unifying force that makes this list first class in every respect. Good luck in the future and I hope to see you at AirVenture or Sun and Fun for many years to come. Guy and Michael, Welcome to your new tasks as List Administrator. The time, and everything else involved in doing the job, is daunting. Your volunteerism is appreciated. I know first hand the help the folks on the list provide to each other and with your leadership I'm sure it will continue to be the excellent venue that it is. You have tough shoes to fill , but as they say in the best aviation comedy ever made, "We're all counting on you!"
