John, We have the 8" wheels with brakes I have attached photos of the wheel and brake developed for use with the King Fox 21x12x8 inch tires. This wheel is 6 inches wide between the flanges and can be run tubeless. The model number is MHE8B-600. It uses and external caliper brake that is rated at 2200 in-lb at 450 psi. It uses 1.25 inch tapered roller bearings and each wheel is rated at 750 lb static load with a 3 G overload ultimate load. We will have more details on it posted on our website in the near future. The cost is $600.00 plus shipping. We also have our wheel and hub conversion package without brakes. This packaged was developed for use with the King Fox 21x12x8 inch tires and can be run tubeless. The model number is DWE8B-300.It hub uses 2 SFL roller bearing size either 3/4" or 5/8" to be specified at time of ordering. The cost is $300.00 plus shipping. Please remember we are the manufacturers of the King Fox tire. Thanks for your inquiry Kevin R. Subject: gas cap venting
I had a fibre gasket on the generic gas cap I converted last year. I removed the one way valve in the top of the cap completely, drilled a hole (5/16") in the centre of the cap and soldered a chrome plated copper tube with the end flared into the hole. Then I put the cap on the plane and marked forward so I could bend the tube into the airflow. I didn't like the fibre gasket either so I cut it and removed it. I then used it as a template to cut another gasket out of an old inner tube. Works perfectly! Total cost was about $8.00CDN ( Gas caps are a bit dear here ). Oh yes one other thing I'm one of those guys who fly over some rough country so generally unless I'm just up for a few trips around the pond my tanks will be filled to the gunwales. The only leak I ever saw was with the fibre gasket. Mike Logan _____ From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Don Smythe Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2007 8:39 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: N998DS (Don Smythe) N998DS has been sold. I will now invest the money into a Hot Tub and other things I can enjoy around the house. Here is an interesting point that might help others in the future. I have Falcon insurance and the new buyer was seeking the same company. They insisted that he have one hour with a CFI in my Fox. I called my Falcon agent and asked him who was best qualified to give the new buyer a checkout, a CFI that may have never flown a Fox much less mine or the builder how built the flew the airplane. His comment was, "That makes a lot of since". Long story short, Falcon agreed to insure my buyer under the understanding that "I" would provide one hour of "indoctrination" flight training in my Fox. We did that today and I logged the one hour training into his flight log book. I know the difficulties I've seen on the list with people trying to get flight training with CFI's in a Fox. This proves you can negotiate these issues. Don't take the first thing you here. Use your imagination and negotiate. It might pay off. Subject: S5 912S overheating - cowling?
Our S5 912ULS has about 10 hours flying on it now. Temperatures last week were around 32 Cdegrees and during some short flights the CHT and Oil temp started reached the limits. They were ok in the cooler months. We have the standard firewall forward set up from Sky Star with the smooth cowl. I've always thought the air outlet on the bottom cowl was small in comparison to the inlets at the front. Has anyone experienced overheating with this set up? Has anyone tried enlarging the opening at the rear of the cowl? Any experience based on a similar set up would be greatly appreciated.
