From: "Bob" Groan, this is how urban legends get going. The real story sure wasn't that it was a China Airlines A380, as the 380 hasn't even entered service yet! This has happened a couple of times, usually with a Boeing simply because that's what most of the transport fleet is. (All the Airbusses built in all of their models about equals the Boeing 737s fleet.) The last strap-down ferry-flight (no passengers) I know of was an approved flight, I believe out of an African airport. Option #1 for a bad engine is to ship in a quick-change (QEC), but they couldn't change the engine at that place. Option #2 is usually to remove the N1 fan blades to reduce drag, but in this case they had additional issues and could take off with reduced fuel weight, so used the straps to lock the N1 disc in place. BTW, you'll occasionally see photos of a transport with one too many engines. There are a few airplanes with a hardpoint to carry a spare QEC. That engine has no provision for fuel or anything else to make it run. The original builder removed the oil injection and premixed his fuel. I want to reinstall the oil injection. Which oil tank will fit under the cowl 582 side mount #881 465, $161.42 or 582 end mount #88146582, $189.95. These are lockwood #s. Or do you have to get a tank and make your own bracket. Also who sells the fuel header tank that goes behind the seat. The bottle supplied from Skystar is on the above site from US Plastics. You will have to drill a hole in the bottom for a bulkhead fitting and modify the threads on the cap so it will vent. John McBean was out of the bottles so I had to go to US Plastics. You can use these bottles but will have to fabricate a bracket. Contact John McBean for the header tank. I really don't like either idea.--Leon Leon Morris/Classic4(1994)/50%/Flower Mound,TX ---- Don G wrote: > > Leon, > OK, here is the way my speedster tip are riveted. > > >From the trailing edge forward, the first rivet on the top side is exactly 3 1/2 inchs.
