All,
I'm glad Lowell has suggested the possibility of a Fourth
Annual Last Cameron Park Kitfox Fly-in. This was my first and I would
very much like to repeat. As if the flight up and back weren't
adventurous enough, the lads from the back country once again treated
me to an adventure Saturday morning that was the very essence of
Kitfox flying and that must therefore go unreported so as to protect
the guilty. If you're ever sitting around a bunch of Kitfox pilots
and they suddenly jump up and say "Hey, let's go ___." Don't even
hesitate. Go. I guarantee you'll be treated to something quite new.
What amazed me most about this fly-in was the number of
people who arrived by land, or by other aircraft, who were either
building or interested in building a Kitfox. I must have spoken with
a dozen people myself, all of whom were intensely interested in
Kitfoxes. Some were directed my way as the sole 2-stroke
representative. John McBean kept busy most of the day talking to
prospective customers. And as Lowell reported, his Cameron Park
fly-in has achieved enough stature to merit interest from the big
boys at Golden West. They wanted to buy him out, but thankfully
Lowell resisted all offers. After all, you can't just jump up and fly
the back country when you're stuck in the middle of a huge fly-in.
I offer my public thanks to Lowell and Kay and Wray Fleming
for all the good food and good company. And thanks to all who came by
and made it a special occasion. I hope to see all of you at one of
these in the future.

Subject: | Strobe Mounting - Series 7 |
Anyone have any pictures of how they mounted their nav/stobes? All I have seen
have a flat spot on the wingtip but this must be something that is made by each
builder. I can easily make a fiberglass mount if that is what everyone else
has done...but if there is an easier way, I am all ears (and eyes). Pictures
and explanations are appreciated.
Thanks,

there are aftermarket pieces available that have the flat area that fits the Weldon
(sic) strobe. Blue Sky is one such supplier and John & Debra may have them
as well.

Well Lowell You did it again.. or should I say Kay did it again Thank you
both very much for opening your home and your friendship.
Hope that next years 9th ever (4th final) Cameron Park Fly-in will be more
fun as they just seem to get more exciting every year. Still want to know
how you got the B-2 Fly-by scheduled :-)
As we have discussed before, it is amazing the folks that gather around this
amazing aircraft we know as the Kitfox.
Please thank Wray and Nilli for their hospitality as well.
Fly Safe !!

I am in the process of installing my fuel tanks on my 7. I trimmed them
down to clear the reinforcement strips. The washout and dihedral are
all set. When I put the tanks on the spars, they don't go down flush
with the ribcaps on either side of each and the outer trailing edge
corner of each tank sticks up about 1/4". They are only touching the
rear spar on the inboard corner. Is this a bit abnormal? Am I supposed
to not get them down flush with the rib caps? I was assuming they
should drop right down evenly on the spars and be flush with the ribs.
Thanks,
Wade Greaves

When I 'm tying the knot I find that the string seems to twist like, fishing knots
when its pulled through the last part. Is this what everyone else is fighting
when tighten up the rib lace knot before moving on to the next rib knot?

Subject: | Re: Different heater questions?? |
All,
I am working through the same problem, my heater core has a smaller inlet
than my cooler so I also feel fluid will travel through the cooler before
the heater core, path of least resistance, has anyone tried puting the valve
on the inlet of the cooler and using it to restrict flow to the cooler and
force flow through the heater core?

Subject: | Re: Warped tanks? |
Hi Wade,
I talked to Rex today about your tanks. He suggested setting them down on
the floor or table and laying the Smart level in the spare grooves front and
rear. They should have some angle up at the rear from root outward to allow for
the washout in the wings. However when they are placed on the spars with the
correct washout set they should lay down and be even with the top of the
ribstrips inboard and outboard as we spoke about. He asked about the left and
right switch, but I told him the drains are inboard. I wonder if Skystar drilled
the drains at the wrong ends and left and right are switched. Worth a try on
changing sides to see. Are you sure the washout is set correctly? Though I
cannot see how the washout could have that much effect at the roots. John
McBean will probably have an answer for you before I get there. If the tanks are
warped (unlikely since they are cured glass and both would not warp exactly
the same) or drilled opposite McBean should replace them. Regardless, we will
solve the problem.
Saw Ryan Denham last week and he asked me to say hello to you. He has two
kids now and seems very happy with his managerial job at the auto dealership. He
would like to see you next time you are here. Maybe we can have he and his
wife out to dinner when you and Jenn are here.
Rex and I are sanding the fiberglass fairing around the front of the canopy.
It brings back memories of the fiberglass dust with the VariEze. I haven't
lost my touch with fiberglass work. The fairing is turning out nice.
We will fill the weave tomorrow and sand it out for priming, then on to the
wiring. I talked to Jennifer Hickman at AFS today and I will be able to pick
up my AF3500 this week at their new facility in the industrial area behind
Mervyns in Canby. They have 5 times the space they had at Deitz Airpark. Vans
has really started a thriving industry in aircraft and all the related systems
such as avionics, upholstery, painting and even engines. Lycoming has
discovered that there is a complete new industry in homebuilt engines primarily
due
to the growth of RV's. 450 RV's coming out of garages each year is a huge
business for engine companies, etc.
David Carter passed his crucial stockbroker exam last week. He has two
smaller exams in the next month before he is certified. I know he will do well,
he
has a talent for working with people.
Enjoy the flying.
Love, Dad

Hi Wade,
Just noted an e-mail from John McBean to Lowell Fitt at Cameron Airpark. The
annual Kitfox flyin was this past weekend. John was at the flyin may have
been tied up and not able to answer your e-mail till this week.
