I think I can help. I had the exact the same problem when I switched from a
532 to a 503. The problem is too long of a pulse line. The port on the 532
and 582 is on the mag end close to the fire wall. On the 503 it is on the
pto end. I moved the pump to the front of the engine mount (still
horizontal) and no more weeping in 460 hours. Someone in the Rotax repair
      business suggested this to me.

      Luis:

Don't you do a flight plan and navigation before every flight that takes
      you
cross country? I'm hardly ever a mile off course or a half a gallon off
      on
my calculations. That's not to say a timer isn't a handy item to have
      to
      log airtime.

Regarding to seeing fuel in the tanks... I have the same problem. its
      very
hard to see the levels in the sight tubes when I'm in the seat. I was
considering trying a couple of bicycle mirrors to try to get a better
      angle
      on the sight tubes.

Thanks Dwight, that makes sense. I'll make the change and test it out when the
wind dies down in a couple days.

The question I was getting ready to ask was along the same lines.

I was going to ask if the gas was coming form the fuel lines or up the
impulse line and how long the impulse line is. Heavy clear tubing is
recommended for impulse line so you can see what is going on in it.

The shorter the impulse line the better but of course vibration and heat
have to be taken into consideration. Some where it is written that the
pumps should be mounted horizontally with the impulse line entering from
      the
bottom so any excess gas/oil form the base of the engine will drain out
      of
      the pump.

      Hope this helps

Yes but you never know if you're going to encounter higher head winds than you
expected. With a long cross country in a 95 knt airplane, a little bit of extra
head wind can make a huge difference in your range. Cross checking my actual
position and actual fuel level against the flight plan was part of my training.

Hey you'al, what is an impulse line? It is a term I have not encountered
before. When I see something new to me, it is a chance to learn. I have
installed a lot of fuel pumps on aircraft, motor homes, etc., but none had
such a line that I am aware of.

The impulse line goes from the crankcase to the Mikuni fuel pump on a 2
stroke engine. Perhaps some fourstrokes use one, but I don't know about
      that for sure.

I also had the same problem on a 503 I used to fly on a n3pup. The pule line was
to long. Their is a specification of no longer than 12". If memory serves me
      well.

What purpose does it serve? It seems a good way to get fuel into the
crankcase, something I would think was very undesirable. Please understand
I am sure it does serve a purpose, it just is not apparent to me.
