I find with mine, which is the experimental tail wheel, it doesn't matter if they're
loose or tight, I can handle it just fine. I think if he is low hours,
than he should tighten them up, it will be a little more responsive on slow taxi.
To tighten them just take some of your stainless wire for tying up the bolts
and run through a link skip a couple and go through another link and then
tighten until you have them equal on both sides.

For those thinking of flying into arlington, make sure and go to the site for arlington and download the Notam for such. some very good read there, make sure and click on the flying in, on the left side. http://www.nweaa.org/ ,
and if you want a direct link, http://www.nweaa.org/notam/notam2007.pdf,
this one is very cool, this is for a friday and saturday arrival, http://www.nweaa.org/notam/2007-AWO-NOTAM-Fri-Sat.pdf
If you are planing on flying from the east, make sure you follow the weather all
the way up to the hour before you cross over the mountains. I will tell you
that there is always fog in the morning, so crossing in the early morning will
probably NOT be possible. You may be sitting at ellensburg until it clears,
and if it doesn't, a flight south to Vancouver wa. may have to be in your plans
with a straight flight north following I-5 with a jocky to the east to go
through class b on the outer edge will be in order.
You can also fly VFR over the clouds to make it over Snoquami pass, the pass is
around 3500ft agl, if you go down to white pass that is around 5500 ft. that
one is just west of Yakama, wa. There is stevens pass, that one is around 5500ft
as well, that is to the north and runs hiway 2.
When doing this trip, I'll have a stack of routes that are about 1/2 inch thick.
I have current charts and two gps. I'll run the GPS and the wife follows our
progress on the chart. I always run over the top of one of the freeways and
have all landing fields plotted with radio freqs and conditions in case a landing
is needed.
If flying, have fun and make sure you have all kinds of possibilities planed out.

Hi Kitfoxers,
This is another shameless plug for the WSPA / NWEAA Splash-In held concurrently
with the Arlington Airshow. Anyone on floats is encouraged to fly in. Please
check nweaa.org and follow the splash-in link for additional information.
Floats or wheels, plan to attend the Bratwurst dinner at Lake Goodwin Resort on
Friday the 13th at 6:30 PM. Tickets are only $7.50 per person for an evening
of good food, great company and a gaggle of float planes. Contact me directly
to reserve tickets as a limited number are available. A shuttle will be operating
continuously between the main gate at Arlington and the splash-in. I look
forward to meeting all you Kitfox fans.

I want to put in a plug for arlington. If you never flew in, you should. If you
can't fly in, then you have to camp there. After the show closes at night
is when everything comes alive, really. It's way cool with the baloon burns,
movies, and of course the fire works display done with an aircraft. If your just
there for the day, you miss out, if you stay at a motel and leave when the
gates close, you miss out.

It seems like I tried the hair dryer method, and what stopped me was
the "oil canning" or momentary distortion that resulted, so I quit

Greetings,
A short notice it is, however, John Oakley and I are planning to meet at the Ogden
Airport terminal tomorrow, July 3rd, at 1100 hrs for lunch. I'm up here from
Mesa, AZ and would like to meet any and all who can make it. I understand the
Ogden Terminal has a good place to eat. John indicated there are about 5 guys
in the area building, flying, dreaming... and has never met all of you.
Just an open invitation to make that excuse to fly and come swap lies and eat a
burger.

Dan,
I had a great time also, it would have been better if we could have gotten
Steve to make motor sounds while we sat in the plane.
It was also a good surprise to see that Steve has the original DD85 that Dan
Denny built himself and put in all the photos and brochures that hooked many
of us over the years, it even has Denny's name on the door.

OK, for you aquanuts, I got a dumb question. First
all you FAA types.... delete this!
Anyway, if you are floating your plane all season, how
do you make sure you get in a good
preflight/postflight inspection? When I was aboard
ship in helos, the tail of the helo would hang off the
ship by 35 feet or so. Preflight was, of necessity,
from a distance. But when I finally get float
qualified, I'd like to look at my Fox more closely,
without wadders.
So how do you do it?

Pull the plane in to the beach tail first... Then inspect the tail and
wings from the beach. The rest of the plane can be inspected from the
floats. Most of the time though I fly with my waders on and rolled down
below my knees.
The other thing is my plane is stored in the garage here at the house,
about
a mile or two, from the pond I launch from. So I have lots of time to
pre
flight.
Of course I have to tow with the wings folded. The water in the

is part of the North Atlantic. Picture taken May 2006.

I stored my flaperons by hanging them on a wall in my shop for about 7-8
years. The side against the wall came off easily. The side exposed to the
room and natural light and artificial light (florescent) was very
difficult to remove. So UV plays a role.

Hi all, I'm about to buy a 2200 Jabiru for my Avid Mk IV and am just
wondering what people with that engine on their Kitfox are useing for a
prop. The planes are so much alike, what works on one should probably work
on the other. Thanks, Jim Chuk Avid MK IV Chisholm Mn

Hello Jim, I have a Jabiru 60" by 38" prop on my Jabiru 2200. Why? Because I don't
know anything about prop and engines and when I asked my Jabiru dealer he
recommended me that one. Of course, it is a wood prop and I have to be careful
when it rains. I don't fly much when it rains, anyway, but if caught in a drizzle,
keep the RPM under 2 500 and it should be fine. After 230 hours, the prop
is still in a near pristine condition. For my Kitfox 3, the prop pitch is maybe
a tad too coarse; no great climb performance but an economical cruise RPM.
Not a problem for me since I fly from a long asphalt runway.
Cheers,
