That works for people using the web version of this list but many people access this list via email. I gather that the web sight tries to keep emails grouped based on the title but some email programs use different semantics in the reply heading that defeats the forum logic. -------- Luis Rodriguez Model IV 1200 Rotax 912UL Flying Weekly Laurens, SC (34A) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=123368#123368 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:56:48 AM PST US From: "Noel Loveys" Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: barb-tite fittings This is the first time I've heard of this. From what I've read these fitting require no hose clamp and just need the hose pushed up over the barbs. Supposedly good to 250 PSI. Will these work with fuel injection hose or will they only work with specially designed hoses? Is it really safe to have a fuel line without a hose clamp? It should be installed before the fuel pump at the lowest point in the fuel system. The size of the gascolator is governed by the maximum fuel flow expected...more fuel requires a bigger gascolator. It's kinda like herding cats, Thomas... Actually, I think most folks on the list do a really good job of showing courtesy to other readers and playing by the rules, but some folks are less technically savvy than others and mistakes happen. In this particular case, though, I think it might be an artifact of the multi-faceted nature of the list--some folks use the web interface, some use e-mail, and some use e-mail digests. It's possible that the e-mail and/or digest message responses break the web page's threads, we've had complaints about that in the past. If that's the case, I don't know that there is an easy fix to the problem. There is no "New Topic" or "Post Reply" functions to an e-mailed message--they just go to a central address with a subject line that (hopefully) ties them to the conversation. Mike G. So I'm wondering if >there's been a deliberate effort to establish a different norm here? No, it's the same. I looked at the forum and the duplication wasn't too bad. 1. There was a digest reply where the sender forgot to change the subject, a common mistake.. 2. Some idiot named Guy Buchanan split the thread TWICE. (I'm putting him on list probation.) 3. A long title got truncated by someone's email program and split a thread. 4. Another appears to have used their originating email to generate a reply, splitting the thread. I think, with your reminder, people like myself will try harder to keep the subject line connected. >If so, I'd like to know what the prevailing rule is so I can post >accordingly. If not, then I really think it would be better for >everyone if posters responding to an existing thread made sure they >used the "Post Reply" button and only used the "New Topic" button >for original posts. I didn't see any sign of "New Topic" replies, unless people are going to all the trouble to copy subject headings. Most of the new topics appear to be new topics. (I didn't check them all.) The rest of the thread splits are screw-ups of one kind or another. Thank you very much for the notice. I expect everyone will try harder. Aeroquip is reputable and I'm ASSUMING their design is proven, though I didn't prove it myself. I used this system previously on a Porsche remote oil cooler and in 12 years never had a fitting failure, though I once had a mid-hose failure. Of course I replaced the line every few years. On all other "barbs" I use clamps. (E.g. fuel pump, carburetors.) Mike -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of kurt schrader Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 9:44 PM Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: NSI normal asperated oil blowoff Thanks Michael, I was leaning in about the same direction with him before I asked you all on the list. Your experience is the first I heard to match his though. I thought he could put a section of scrubbie in the vent line after the connection, but before the 90 down turn so it would stay there. Blow thru it to make sure air still goes thru. There is no room to make this line go verticle up before going down, or he could get some drain-back. Second, I though like you and Peter, to add some kind of air/oil seperator to the line. Hadn't thought of your third mod though. Sure enough that return line would be blowing oil all over the tank's insides and not down only. Makes it a lot easier for oil to go right out the vent without it. I agree that you and he must be getting a lot of blowby due to bad rig arrangement or something. Valve guides? In any case, nothing so easily fixed for him. He is not a mechanic. Your mods might do it alone. Another option I thought of was an expanded tank volume like a lower tank even with the bottom of the main, but only 1/2 as high that held an additional 2 qts. But that low oil pressure worries me more than the blowout. As you said, quality control. Let us know how the RAM conversion works out. How exensive a change are you making? The whole conversion, or only parts? Been thinking about some mods myself. My engine runs pretty well, but it could be better and I have a few things in mind. RAM might play a part in it for me too. The nob has always been a little sticky and I'd been reluctant to pull on it too hard for fear of breaking something. A local A&P at the airport inspected the carbs while I held the choke lever at the position that I was accustomed to and he informed me that the choke was not fully actuated. I just needed to put a little more muscle into it. Now she starts right off. No need to crank with the mags off.
