The off road race trucks are now using Parker "Push-Loc". One heats the hose with hot water and push it on the fittimgs. Good for 250psi, once installed. Use on high pressurte fuel EFI fuel systems. Fittings are availble from multiple sources Like Parker, Earls, etc. Fittings are available for flared AN or pipe threads. The hose is special not the standard SAE stuff They are real easy to install and no clamps are used. Check out the photos, it is going to be a beauty. Don Pearsall _____ Hi Don, A friend of mine who monitors the Kitfox List sent this to me. Please pass on the following to the List members: I dropped off the List late last year because I have been all tied up in boat building. Like building airplanes, it is very time consuming. I still have my Series 6 Kitfox, so I have not given up flying. Just not doing as much as before while the new project is still in process. Late last year I completed the restoration of a J3 Cub. Two other pilots in the area want me to restore their J3's, but I decided to first help my son build a 22 foot fishing boat first. He is a "Fishing Nut" and needs a bigger boat. Family comes first. Believe it or not, but there is a boat building industry out there that promotes "kit boats", just like "kit planes". You can not only buy the plans, but also the plywood and fiberglass epoxy kits. The plywood kits consist of all the necessary precut pieces of plywood to build the boat. No transfer of dimensions from the drawings to the plywood. These boats come in all sizes and styles that are constructed with marine grade plywood sandwiched between layers of fiberglass. Like Experimental aircraft, they can be customized to suit the builders wishes. Of course, there is a builders forum on the Internet similar to the Kitfox List that is a great resource of information for first time builders. That is where I spend a lot of time. I dropped off the Kitfox List because I can't afford to spend too much time monitoring two lists. We are about 50% done, with 80% to go. If you are interested you can see pictures (right now 170) of our progress on the following web site. It starts out with day one and is continually updated as progress proceeds. You can also get an idea as to how their forum is organized by clicking on the following URL: You do not have to be a registered member to just view the topics and pictures. Not trying to convert anyone, just want let people know there are other worlds out there just like flying. I still love my Kitfox and will get back to full time flying when the boat is done. Every now and then I get calls from Kitfox pilots who want to talk airplanes and I still enjoy that. BTW, my new e-mail address is . I now speak two languages, both boats and airplanes. I haven't been on the list for some time now, but I hope all is going well with the Kitfox community and John McBean. -- John King Warrenton, VA (540) 347-9139 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 10:55:55 AM PST US From: "Eric" Subject: Kitfox-List: nose gear There is a nose gear leg on Ebay right now. Drop an email and I will respond with my address and ship the same day. Drop a check in the mail and they they will rub shoulders enroute. AAQ (Answers to Anticipated questions) 1 - Always fly the airplane - Sometimes I don't get everything coordinated and will not mess with the camera while in the sterile cockpit period - take off or landing. Sort of a priority issue. 2 - The audio - a) There is no mike input to the camera. Using the camera built in microphone would produce only wind noise because that it is where it is - Out front in the wind. b) I use a portable digital recorder that records on compact flash cards. It is new to me and I am still in the learning curve. Mike gain was set a bit too high - there is nothing automatic on it. 3 - Final Cut Express, DVD Studio Pro, Toast on a Mac G5. 4 - The edit took the better part of three days. 5 - Did you enjoy the edit - Yes and no. I like re-experiencing the trip especially the audio. I find it extremely frustrating at times though, because some important sequences are unusable or entirely missing. When flying with a group as I do, it is very rarely possible for a second take on any scene. One exception - when we were ready to depart Cameron Park, we got a cell call from the Jackson group saying they would be another ten minutes before TO. That gave us another half hour in the run up area before they would be overhead and frankly, a loss of concentration. Everything got shut down and it wasn't until edit time that I became aware that the camera was not recording as we departed CP. The scene of the CP TO was a take two - shot early morning three days later. The TO at Shelter Cove the same - record button neglected. I expected a long taxi to the threshold end of the runway, but because of wind strength and I guess the longing for home, we did an intersection departure at the short end. I just did the prudent thing and flew. HG manifold pressure. I gather that they qualify this with the need for a variable pitch prop because it would be hard to hit those exact numbers otherwise. My electric IVO prop comes in handy here. In practice though, 5000rpm and 26 in. I am looking for the streamlining material for the tail brace and strut brace. I think they came out with something around '98-'99 that was like the PVC lift strut material. Also a wing tip landing light(more of a rec light) kit. And I think someone came up with a speed controller to slow down the trim motor to run at 1/2 speed. What airspeeds are you getting at those RPM on what prop? With the Ivoprop (ultralight), for takeoff, I use the flatter climb pitch preset in the pattern slowing down for landing, this gives 5800 for a max performance takeoff (full throttle). After gaining sufficient altitude, I blip the pitch to a steeper cruise, which brings the RPM down to maybe 5200 or so, then screw the power (throttle) back to 5000 RPM, with the throttle back about 1.5" at low altitudes, maybe 1" at higher altitudes. This gives about 117 mph at a little less then 5GPH at lower altitudes at full gross weight. It will go a little faster solo. I should expirement more, but this seems to give the most efficient balance. I have no MP guage, but if I change the prop a little either way after setting the power, it seems to go slower, ie too much pitch or not enough. If the air is rough, I back off the power some to with the same pitch to maybe 4800 RPM or a little lower to cruise below manoevering speed. The engine runs cooler with the Ivoprop than it did with the GSC, but I have never tried cruising with full throttle yet, even at high altitude. I flight plan for the straight distance between airports using 100 MPH at 5 GPH for 4 hours max, normally 3 hours, especially where airports with gas are scarce. This gives a margin for climbing, crosswinds, headwinds, dodging storms, zigzagging through passes, skirting airspace, finding communications to close the flight plan, etc., with more than sufficient fuel reserves.
