As an aside on the Quick Drains, if they start leaking after an exposure to auto gas in the tanks for a period of time, replace the 1/4" OD "O" ring on them with one made from Buna-N rubber. They will last a lot longer. I buy them in lots of 100 for about 10 cents each from a gasket supplier. I purchased this Kitfox for about 18 months ago, bought it second hand. The previous owner had started on the wings, but the kit was stored in his garage for the last 10yrs. I modified the wings to speedster type, and installed a jabiru 2200 engine with Skyfox cowl. Now it is ready for its first flight, just waiting for my instructor and the weather. Cant wait to take it in to the air. Thanks to this list, I have got many hints and tips In the building process. And thanks to Michel, that told me that it was a skyfox cowling in Norway that the Jabiru dealer almost gave avay , I think it looks nice with that cowling around the Jabiru:-) Geir Olav =D8ien/Norway Kitfox 4-1200 Jabiru 2200 Ready for first flight.

Geir: Your plane looks great, and if the skyfox cowling precluded having to do a lot of fabrication, that's super great. I think it looks nice also. Geir: I was so impressed with the looks of your finished product that I failed to ask you about the finished weight. I'm very interested in seeing how your plane performs with the Jabiru engine. I have a Model IV 1200 with a Subaru EA81 engine. The engine is simply too heavy for this plane. Please keep us posted of your performance numbers. Empty weight with ballistic chute is 598lbs (272kg), not to bad, because the chute weights about 20lbs. Geir, I am in the process of replacing my NSI Subaru with the Jabiru 3300 on my Series 5 Kitfox. I will loose a few horses, the turbo, and the cabin adjustable prop, but will save a ton of weight and have a simple engine. I am in the process of fitting the cowl from a Zenith 601. It stops at the firewall unlike my current cowl, so I will need to do some glass work and use part of my current cowl. As the new cowl was set up for the new engine, there is some saving in effort there. It will look a lot like yours but the nose bowl is a little different for a larger oil filter. Otherwise, it appears to be a fair fit. I will post pictures when I am further along. The engine is hanging on the firewall and I have removed previous instrumentation, backup power, and batteries from the tail. I hope to come in at around 820 lbs empty. I will post more in the future. Jim Crowder. -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Geir Olav ien Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2007 4:23 PM To: kitfox-list@matronics.com Subject: Kitfox-List: Another Kitfox IV-1200 ready for first flight I purchased this Kitfox for about 18 months ago, bought it second hand. I fill the gearbox with the specified quantity. In my case that is 850 ccm.
