Luis asks:
>...isn't it dangerous to say things like "my Kitfox doesn't stall so
>yours won't either"?
You're absolutely right, Luis. Denney produced 4 models of Kitfox,
SkyStar produced 3 more, and Kitfox LLC is producing yet another. At
least two different airfoils have been produced in two different
lengths with two wing tip styles, and most can be assembled in any
combination. Vertical tail size has changed several times, as have
the elevators. Some have airfoil-shaped tail surfaces, others are
flat.
In that time, maximum gross weights have more than doubled and both
low- and high-end speeds have changed considerably. Don't forget
that Avid produced many models of their kits, too, and quite of few
Avid builders and flyers are on this list.
Moreover, no two kits will turn out exactly alike, even those built
by the same people. The bottom line is that generalizations must
always be taken with a grain of salt. Although there are many common
characteristics of our airplanes, each one is truly a unique beast!

OK. Sounds like a good reason to not give advice based on broad generalizations
about flight characteristics.

Ok, not always will mine stall on the landing for the three point. So what do
I do? well I don't add weight to the luggage compartment. What I do now is just
put in the right pitch on final and use the throttle to settle her on the runway,
makes a nice gentle touch down every time. When the wife is in the plane
and we are running heavy(by the way my empty weight is 650) full fuel and the
wife in the right side, and the density altitude is up there, I tend to drop
and stall on landing. So a bunch of throttle in this configuration above is
needed, otherwise when by myself and less fuel, I just fly it on the runway with
the pitch up and use throttle to ease it on the runway. OH! and NO flaps.
I have no reason to land with a 100ft roll out anyway. I guess this allows the
nose to come up as well.

Hi Gang,
Check out EAA's web videos to see a couple of our very own making the
spotlight.....well, sort of. I'm sure not in a way they would like to be
known for, but attention just the same. The direct link is
http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid626910413/bclid1119199227/bctid1137752093
(works poor at best on dial up, so hopefully most of you have high
speed.....unlike me)
I'm not just picking on these guys, as my Kitfox also got a little video
attention at the seaplane base (see the EAA Seaplane Base web video) by
having some mechanical difficulties as well. I was somewhat spared as you
can't tell my Fox is broken by seeing it sit on the wooden seaplane ramp,
but it was for sure broken at the time. Nothing major, but broke just the
same...
I guess all we can all do now is just laugh at all of it. Even though it's
probably not the best kind, at least we gave the world a little more
exposure to a Kitfox (chuckle)

John,
Thanks for the report. I try to visualize your area. I have only driven up
I-15 a couple of times, but it always seemed a good place to explore by air.

Hey that's our own Lynn Farnsworth! He's a star! (I wonder what was
wrong with the Jab?) (Man that guy gets around. Last I saw him he was
at Lowell's in Cameron Park, CA.)
