From: "dave" Andrew, Sounds like a good deal. Last owner getting 800 hours from his engine is excellent. He was doing it right . If you have a friend with a IV model then I would go and see how you like it . I think it is just a guide more than a actual tight fitting bushing. Is it binding now ? You should be able to move stick full aft and let go to have the stick return full forward. I go through about 1000 to 1500 gals of gas a year in My Kitfox alone and use regular pump gas. I have no idea if it has ethanol or not. Likely it does as it is law here to have it . I have not noticed any problems yet using what i have been using. So ethanol gas to me is no big deal. I am not an advocate of ethanol gas and I think that it is likely I will use more gas for the same power setting with ethanol gas. It will not attract dirt/dust and is compatible with the nylon. I use this for many a[pplications. It is not permanent but seems long lasting. Just about all the planes we serviced were on commercial contracts so we saw then every 50 hr... No exceptions. What used to get me is every time I went to grease the tracks there would be great gobs of grease all over them, usually full of dust, flies, bugs, etc. The first thing I would have to do is to get all the old crap off. The MM for the plane said a light coat of grease and that is what they got what would fit on the top of your little finger would be enough to lubricate one track ( there were 4). The idea was to put enough on to lubricate but not enough to catch dirt, and re lubricate often enough so there wouldn't be a build up of crud. The rest of the pivots on the plane were also oiled with a light oil, then it was wiped clean, oiled again and the excess was wiped off....again every 50 hr. Doing this not only assured the smooth operation of all controls but it gave us the chance to have a close up look at every part of the plane. One day I asked one of the pilots where all the grease was coming from... He said he thought we had forgotten to put grease on the tracks so he "Went at 'er" with a can of axel grease. Toro" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Opinions for a newbie? Andrew: What the owner means by a "New" 532. Production of that engine ended about 15 years ago. Has it been opened and verified recently? I used to own a KF II/582, and still have the opportunity to fly it. It is a very nice combo. Excellent performance: 70 mph cruise, 500 fpm climb dual, 30 mph stalls, very short take offs and landings. The one on the picture looks great. It seems to me like the price is right even with the 532. I would go for it!!! As an instruction plane, it should make of you a good "taildragger driver". My situation is that I have about 15 hours of flying time in gliders, with 6-7 solo flights. I decided I wanted to move to power instead of gliders. What I am looking into is going in halves on a Kitfox, then getting LSA instruction. The owner just wnated to freshen it up I guess. Empty weight is 492. It has an 8 Gallon tank and a brand new 532 motor, not rebuilt. The airframe has about 800 hours on it, and the new motor only 2 hours. Electric start, no oil injection, and Hydrolic brakes. My main question is around the 532. Is this a decent engine? He said the previous 532 he had in it had over 800 hours, with no rebuild. He decided rather than a rebuild to put the new 532 in. Please let me know what you think of this plane, and the motor. From: "dave" Noel, I don't think you can just change bell cranks to change to aileron differntial. I did talk to Mc Bean a few weeks back and he does offer a kit i believe to upgrade to aileron diferential on the pre IV models or at least some of them. I finally got time to day to make a new elbow from scratch. It turned out about the same as the Skystar one except it a bit longer at bottom rather than at the top as I modified the last one and gained the HP. I had to cut the tapered pipe where it joins onto the Rotax muffler and rotated it . length should be the same (+/- 1/8" ). Wind today was 10 G 15 knots so it was hard to get a good handle on take off performance if better or not. I think i got about 50 to 70 more RPM static, really not a big deal. Got about 10 take offs and landings in at a few grass strips and worked ok. Could not find a camera last 2 days around here - 3 kids plus a wife -- who knows where it is now. Will try to get some pics when I find it. Overall I give this mod a thumbs up for performance gain.
