I have the complete manual for straight and anphib Aerocets. I also have
the parts list and diagrams. Someone borrowed my scanner...but when it
comes back I will PDF it and email it to you. If you need it asap...send
me your address and I will pop it into the mail.
Watching my friend struggle with his straight floats on a J3. No problem
with the floats...just the hassles of dealing with straight vs anphibs. I
think it pisses him off every time I taxi by his hanger on wheels with
water dripping off the back of the floats. His plane is tied up at his
cottage...or at a lake several miles from his AME shop at the airport. The
Aerocets anphibs have taken a fair bit of criticism...but if you take it
easy on them (stay off rough grass strips...boat ramps...etc) and
maintain them (check for worn bolt holes..slop in the system...DO THE OVER
CENTER ADJUSTMENT once a year) then they work well.

Hello All,
I'm happy to report that I just passed my DAR inspection and am approved to
start Phase I flight testing. My Kitfox is a Model III that was purchase
back in 1992 and slowly assembled by several different owners in the US and
Canada. I finally bought it last year and finished it. That's 15 years
build time and 5 builders in 2 countries, it might be some kind of record.
Anyway, I need to buy a propeller. I was wondering if anyone has an IVO
medium 2 blade they would be willing to sell, or a Warp Drive 68" 3-blade.
I have a 582 with C drive and 3:1 ratio. Tried to order an IVO 2 blade
ultralight but IVO wouldn't sell it to me because of the vibration/cracking
issue. I have been leaning toward the IVO because it has been a really good
prop for me in the past and I think it might be a bit more efficient than
the others, but I'm willing to try any good option.
I have a nice 70" Warp Drive 3-blade tapered-tip aluminum-hub RH tractor
prop if anyone is interested in buying or trading. I think it would work
well on a 912 or other RH tuning engine.
I've really appreciated all the info over the last few months of building.
And I'm even getting an education on biofuels and global warming to boot!

Is this an indication that my motor is getting too hot? It was only one landing
after a long descent so I wouldn't have thought that it was too hot.
Can you tell me more about your fuel primer pump? I've noticed you mentioning your
fuel primer before but I figured you where talking about a simple plunger
style manual pump. Does the primer pump run all the time?

one I opened the oil access door any time I landed knowing I was going to
leave. 2 I installed an electric fuel "primer" pump under my seat. I have had
no problems with it since.

I have several props that I use of have used on my Kitfox with 3 to 1 box and
a Rotax 582.
68" GSC 3 blade wood ground adjustable.
68" Square tip WARP with nickel leading Edge.
72 " IVO Medium 2 Blade.
I have comparable performance with all 3 all within a few % of each other. They
each have their own attributes. ie WARP is my main seaplane prop.
I have read all kinds of reports of how each prop will give these massive gains
but on my Kitfox I have not found that the case. I have tweaked each one in different
weather and temps and with Wheels, floats and Skis. I can say that I
have extensively experimented with all the above and a few more and I will fly
with anyone of those anytime.
I do sell props and feel free to drop me a line on what you want and dave@cfisher.com
and I will get you a price. I do have a IVO 72 " medium that have been
tested only a hour or two that I can likely get you a decent price on.

Funny you should mention it. For the last ten years or so, my wife has been living
her dream of living on a horse farm. The deal was that when she got tired
of taking care of other peoples horses we'd move to an airpark. I think that
she doesn't have much more than a couple of years left in her so I've begun scouting
out what's available. I don't know about living that far north though.
I grew up in Miami. We lived in Northern VA for a few years and I think thats
about as much winter as I care for. How about Colorodo?
To be honest though, I can't imagine a Kitfox only airpark. There just aren't enough
of us. I'd say just keep the runway grass and under 3000 feet long and maybe
you'll attract like minded people :-).

Thanks for all the info, Dave. Yes I have seen all your videos several
times. I'd love to get that kind of takeoff performance. My preference is
low, slow, grass strips. So I'm not too concerned about cruise performance.
I have the really large Mippi treadless tires and would like to get the best
takeoff performance out of the prop. I have always liked IVO on my other
planes, so was leaning that way. Like I said in my post, I tried to buy a
72" ultralight prop but they wouldn't sell it to me. Which I
appreciate...last thing I want is a cracked prop. What are you asking for
the IVO medium?
Also, what would it cost me to buy 3 GSC 68" blades? I have a hub and
spinner, but the blades were cracked in a forced landing (not me), I bought
it with some other Kitfox parts when I was building.

I used 60# water softener bags in the passenger seat for my testing. Used
the seat belt to hold them from moving. First 120#, then 180#, and then 240#. It
cuts down on performance a lot, but stalls were only about 5 MPH more at
gross weight.

Luis-
What I normally do on my Jabiru engine, (with only one carb to worry
about) is to shut off the main fuel valve when I'm about 30 seconds
away from shutting the engine down, like for parking after a landing
and taxi, etc., then when the engine is shut down, the fuel level in
the bowl is reduced, and a subsequent hot start is immediate.
Somebody gave me this tip, and it works perfectly. Just something you
might try.

I used sand bags which I bagged, tied together, then tied into my
seat belt system. I wouldn't do aerobatics with it, but it worked
fine for flight test, which was invariably in smooth air.

Hi Tom. I used bags of playground sand, 40# each, purchased from garden dept at
Wal-Mart. Duct-Taped together and seat-belted into passenger seat. Amazing how
much faster my model 2 sinks at MTOW (950#) than with just me flying.
Later, I used the sand to build a brick patio.

My wife and I sloshed the spar interiors after the ribs had been installed by pouring
8 oz. of thinned epoxy chromate primer into each spar and capping the ends
with old tennis balls pressed in. Total paint used was less then a pint. The
attached photo shows the interior of one of the spars which was broken in an
accident. Note the primer covering the spar. Prior to sloshing we cleaned with
metal prep and alodined.

Thanks for the tip Lynn. That sounds like an easy thing to try.
I was just looking through the Rotax operators manual and I noticed something interesting.
The diagram for the fuel system shows the fuel lines going from the
pump to a four way splitter. Two lines for the carbs one for the fuel pressure
gage (which I don't have) and a fourth line returning to the tank. According
to the caption, the purpose for this fourth line is to prevent 'vapour lock'.
I'm not entirely sure that my fuel system has such a thing. Would that be unusual?
Does everyone else have this installed?
I don't really understand how such a system would work. If the output of the fuel
pump is split between the fuel tank and the carbs then wouldn't this dump all
the fuel pressure out the vent lines in the tank?

Isn't there an airpark down where you live Luis? Living in Northern VA is not
so bad, as long as you are in an airpark like I am. I hate to puff up my chest
and swagger around too much but I am living my dream. I walk 30 feet to my
hangar and commute 20 miles to work. We are just outside the ADIZ for Washington
D.C. and we in the airpark are all one big happy family. This is the only
way to live. My wife flies too, she built a Pulsar.
Most people don't even know we are here but you can see the runway from Route 1,
and I-95 is less than a mile away.

Funny you should mention it. For the last ten years or so, my wife has been living
her dream of living on a horse farm. The deal was that when she got tired
of taking care of other peoples horses we'd move to an airpark. I think that
she doesn't have much more than a couple of years left in her so I've begun scouting
out what's available. I don't know about living that far north though.
I grew up in Miami. We lived in Northern VA for a few years and I think thats
about as much winter as I care for. How about Colorodo?
To be honest though, I can't imagine a Kitfox only airpark. There just aren't enough
of us. I'd say just keep the runway grass and under 3000 feet long and maybe
you'll attract like minded people :-).

The 4th connection is for the return line to the tank and it has a
small orifice in a fitting so the flow is small. It does prevent
vapor lock. Its fairly common to use the return but many guys skip it.

Leon, I got some lambs wool at a leather shop and tied it in the middle of
a length of cord. I saturated the lambs wool with primer and dragged it
through and through the spar several times adding a bit of primer each time.
My inserts were installed as well and felt that the primer would seal the
edges as well as the rivet ends. I re-threaded the cord so-as to get both
sides of the spar.

I like the idea, but do your due diligence. I live in an airpalrk that has
been in existance almost 40 years and there are folks here that literally
hate each other. The street/taxiways are falling apart, but I love it
anyway for all the reasons you mention.
About CC&Rs, be careful there. Leo Rice, once on the list and the builder
of a beautiful Model V once developed an airpark and ended up abandoning
it - walking away, because a woman bought a piece of the property, put in
horses, then claimed the airplane sounds were injuring them. She had more
financial resources than Leo did, so he got out rather than spending what he
had left on legal fees. He felt that without a doubt he would have won any
legal battle, but at the cost of almost everything he had saved for his
retirement.
Leo was a great guy that all who met him liked a lot. The colon cancer that
delayed his build and caused all sorts of medical issues finally got him
after 3 or 4 years of flying.
Think of all the folks that buy under a traffic pattern, then start making
trouble because of the noise and start working to close the airport. We
definitely have that here and I first visited this airport in the early 70s
and was driven around the place by someone and all there was was a runway,
FBO, aircraft maintainance facility - our reason for coming - annuals etc.,
a couple of houses, and a bunch of roads a developer put in trying to make a
buck. The place really grew up in that time and we have shopping within a
mile, but the reason for the area to become a place - the airport - is
despised by a lot of people.

relent - ONE CCR...all properties restricted to aircraft ownership and operations.
A LOW MAINTENANCE grass strip. Thank you! It's the balance of those CCR's
that cause much of the grief. The neighbors don't like that you conserve water
and have a browner yard, they don't like your color scheme, they come over
to measure the length of your grass, etc. Absolutely minimal restrictions on freedom

The attached photo shows the interior of one of the spars which was broken in
an accident. Note the primer covering the spar. Prior to sloshing we cleaned

Thanks, John,
I am already lobying for one more fly-in at least a 10th I say. I agree
with the CC&R things you mention. Ours are so cumbersom that most are no
longer inforced except those that impact aircraft movement - no parking on
the streets, but even taht one is ignored from time to time. One that was
instituted that was uninforcable from the beginning: Cars and airplanes use
the same street/taxiways. It is written in the CC&R that autos would use
the center of the street while aircraft would use the curb lane. The
streets are 100 ft wide so this could work, except we are taught as drivers
and it is almost instinctive that when you see something on a road that is
threatening, you would pull to the side of the road. That puppy didn't fly
from the get go. We also have one that nothing over 36" can be within 25
ft. of the street. Right now I can look across the street and see a 40 ft.
Maple tree that is within 4 ft. of the edge of the street corner. I have
one too - a flowering plum about the same distance and also on the corner,
planted by a previous owner.
For sure simple is better.

I live in British Columbia Canada. Have a KF 111 mostly of floats. We
