What happened the Kitfox gathering that was supposed to happen at First Flight and Campbell Field last weekend? A couple of us flew to Campbell Field for soup on Sunday but there were no other Kitfoxes. I had to bail out of the whole trip due to having the flu or some other bug, but I never saw a post about "how much fun it was...blah, blah, blah" from any of the participants...what about it guys? My hanger partner has a Kitfox IV 1050 that I am very impressed with so I looked into buying one for myself to replace my 20 year old Avid. I then sat in the Mcbean's Kitfox 7 at Oshkosh and fell in love with it. I ended up buying a Vixen long wing with a 912UL in it. I love this plane and it is an amazing performer for 80 HP. 1200-1300 climbouts @ 1000 lbs. 38 MPH stalls with full flaps, 44 clean, and 115 MPH cruise at 5300 RPM, 125 full throttle. Uses very little fuel (autogas), and has lots of cabin space inside. The only downside is it is a big airplane and needs to be trimmed out or it has heavy stick pressure, unlike my Avid that had no trim and no stick pressure to speak of. It is not as maneuverable as the smaller models but does fly well with a lot less adverse yaw. I would have to say it is not as fun to fly as my old "B" model Avid, but so much more comfortable on trips, and can handle passengers with room to spare. There are always trade offs for performance, comforts and options. But my Kitfox V Vixen has a great balance of performance, looks, and comfort. What ever the number x 4 divided by gross weight and you get some number. factor in impact load vs. static load and you get some number....... A look at all(?) the cessnapipertaylorluscomehuskey types and you will find essentially the same fittings sized for weight/category. Moving on... John Kerr
