Malcolm, Your prop seems to be ok rpm wise but you never said what the EGT temp is ..... wide open it will likely be low like 1000F or so but in cruise rpm range of 5600 to 6000 rpm you will want to keep it under 1200F . Since your rpm range does seem ok, you could lower your clip on each carb one notch which will raise your needle up and make you richer. That is what i do every year when the temps get sub 40F or so. Check your plugs for colour as well to give you an idea of what is going on inside. The EGT gauges are a great guide to changing conditions but plugs will tell the tale. Light to med brown colours on the insulator tip would be what i was shooting for to start. Pre mix engines will run a little darker than an oil injected one. Also you never said what size prop you have or what gear box ratio. I can tell you that my GSC 68" 3 blade with 3 to 1 box will be about 6200 static and 6800 wide open for reference. Here is a few pages i made on plug info. http://www.cfisher.com/152hournkg.html http://www.cfisher.com/ngk/ -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada Flying Videos and Kitfox Info http://www.cfisher.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=144884#144884

OK, I'll keep this short and try not to upset anybody. If a person flies his airplane and maintains 1.3 of stall, or is it 1.2. Then he won't have a problem with spins or anything else thrown at him. That is if he keeps within 45degrees of bank. Now if you are crazy like me and do up to 90degrees of bank, then you need to increase your speed, plain and simple. I was having a conversation with a person about 2 weeks ago, he was telling me that he drops quit fast on approach, I asked him what speed he was flying at, he said 80, I was about to say "what is the problem then" when he continued and said his stall speed is 76, I think it was a colt, real short wing anyway. I wanted to yell at him and tell him how stupid he is. Because if you do 1.2 of stall that is about 94mph. He is flying is airplane way to slow. In conclusion, get that speed up, and if you are concerned about floating in to land then do like I do, flatten out your approach and drag it in, works for me, or slip that last bit right to the numbers and then straighten things out and then flair it or wheel land it right on the numbers. Want to do better at landing, practice, don't be writing on a forum. I currently this year have over 4000 touch and goes and over 400 flights. In all of this I find that the more you do the more comfortable you get with landing, of course the fun factor takes over as well. -------- kitfoxmike model IV, 1200 speedster 912ul building RV7a slowbuild wings, fuse, finish kit "if you're not getting razzed from pilots or the FAA then you're not flying enough" Do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=144894#144894

Sadly enough enough i know instructors that have never spun an airplane.... go figure......... -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada Flying Videos and Kitfox Info http://www.cfisher.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=144897#144897

Dave, trying to understand what you are saying. Try this one, on take off with 60mph indicated, make a turn, flat. The kit Will do it. But then again I do have Vg's. I do flat turns over the runway 5ft off all the time, I maintain 60mph when I do it. All this is good to be able to do, what do YOU do when a bird is in your flight path, on take off and just pulling off the runway. I flat turn out of the way, if you bank you could hit ground with a wing tip, plus you loose sight of what you are trying to miss, not only that you turn, literally. -------- kitfoxmike model IV, 1200 speedster 912ul building RV7a slowbuild wings, fuse, finish kit "if you're not getting razzed from pilots or the FAA then you're not flying enough" Do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=144898#144898

I believe the prop should be set for 6400 WOT, 6200 rpm static. Sounds like your prop is set a tad too fine I don't think I'd change it as you might like to have the extra revs for the occasional times you are at gross. I was flying last week and noticed that if you pulled back on the stick a little the rpm would go down just a little but the EGT would drop 75 degrees. at full RPM on clime I get 6300 max and EGT s are low but at level flight it may go 6600 and the EGT,s go up rotax 582 blue head malcolm michigan _____ See what's new at AOL.com and FREE Terrific Free --> http://www.matronics.com/contribution Dralle, List Admin. Quotes from AOPA http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/topics/stall_spin.pdf "Pilots who believe that aerobatic training will enable a recovery from an inadvertent spin in the traffic pattern are fooling themselves." "Removal of the spin requirement for private pilots created much dissent on the part of instructors and other aviation professionals, who forecast an immediate and dramatic rise in the number of spin accidents. It didn't happen. In fact, since elimination of the spin requirement for private pilots, the incidence of stall/spin accidents has actually decreased substantially." "Student pilots, as a proportion of the pilot population, are by far the least likely to suffer stall/spin accidents."

    Subject: Need Opinions!
Hello Kitfoxers! My name is Chuck and I'm considering a Kitfox. I know that if I want opinions, that this is the place! I'm a GA pilot with over 1000 hours in low-wing aircraft (grumman & beach). I really want to find an airplane that I can fly in and out of my farm. The problem is, I don't have a lot of room for a runway. I also don't have a hanger with a big door. I do have a climate controlled building with a 12' door. So, that is why I'm looking at folding wing planes. This is in N. Texas and the field elevation is 630' Here's my criteria: Folding wings that are easy enough to do for every flight - looking through the archives, a lot of you think this is fine. STOL - the best runway I can arrange is going to only be about 700'. However, I won't have any obstacles on either end to clear except a 4' fence. The terrain is flat and sparsely populated. I'm 6'1" and 200lbs. My son is 6'2" and 160lbs. We would like to be able to routinely use the plane together. If it is a really hot day with no wind and we are at gross, I can trailer the plane to a longer strip, but for 80+% of the time, I want to stay home. I'm considering a IV or higher with 80hp or higher. Am I crazy, or will this work? Also, any KF owners in North of Dallas, TX area that would like to give me a tour of their plane? Thanks, Chuck

Thanks Deke, I'm just an old student pilot trying to find out what I can learn in my KF that sounds the same as yours. My CFI did a hammer head and a loop i n my plane the first time he tried it out to see if it was safe enough t o ferry up here to Alaska. When he landed he had a grin from ear to ear and said, " That's a fun plane!!". The most he has had me do in it wit h him was power on stalls... which turned out to be very close to a hamm er head since there was so much power to weight ratio. I was thinking o f just learning to pull it up into inverted flight and then roling it ov er to re-right it after a short time. I guess I'll stay away from that idea now.
