When I built my S5 (1st flight May 2000) I chose to cover the
console
top side with Cordura fabric to match the seats. My biggest
reason for
using fabric was to cover up all of the rivets that would have
been
visible had I painted it. I used spray on 3M adhesive and it
held up
for about three years and since then it has gradually worked
loose and
looked unsightly so I removed it. Now I need to recover with
something.
What have some of you used to cover your console that has

Have you considered screw down snaps like for boat covers, etc.
A little more

HVLP spray gun # 43430. Harbor Freight has them on sale for
$40.00 in the

if you don't

You might be referring to the arm that Dave Jalanti engineered
=66or
his Jabiru installation in his Kitfox. If so, I got mine from
Pete at
USJabiru ( www.usjabiru.com or email them at
info@usjabiru.com ) in Tennessee, a Jabiru dealer. This arm
extends
the length of the VERY short Bing throttle arm, and thus allows
=66or a
more precise control of the throttle.

I have looked at several planes on line and they have turn down tips. I was wondering
how well they work and do they cut down on your top end speed. Also do
they cause any other problems on take off and landings. Lee

I have looked at a couple of other planes (highlander Video on You tube) and on
just Planes link. It shows them putting a dog in the back and a then a little
scooter(not at the same time). I was wondering has any one found a GOOD way to
use the space and if so how do you gain access to the area with out hurting
the plane. And then there is the issue of having weight behind the CG to deal
with.

I think it depends on the plane. My IV has a nice cubical
baggage compartment behind the seats good for 40 pounds of stuff.
It's probably 24"W x 24"L x 24"H, maybe a little wider. I think the
later models have even larger capacity, whereas the 1-3 models had
very little room due to the flaperon mechanism.

I've got the baggage sack, which holds 40 lbs. I don't know whether
this is due to the velcro straps that hold the sack in place, or
whether it is a weight and balance thing. I've calc'd the weight for
my plane and I *could* add more than that, but I'd be afraid to,
because of the velcro. Mine is covered by a...again...velcro'd panel
of the same fabric as that used on the seats. I've loaded 39 lbs 10
oz's into this sack with no problems. Others have fabricated a metal
container back there.
As far as a "GOOD" way to use the space, I carry a tent, sleeping
bag, folding chair, air mattress, air pump, pillow, collapsible
cooler, tools...you get the idea.

Lynn, I have eyelets on my baggage sack and I use tie wraps to hold it in place.
This I feel is more secure than Velcro. I have pondered making a alum bin
behind seat, but not got to it yet.

Droop tips I don;t think cause and extra drag than the Hoerner tip. I have never
seen any concrete data that shows there is any gain with either tip.
Some do not like the droop tip as it apparently obscures their vision off the wing
tip. I had read other like them in case of dragging a tip on the runway it
will save their wing from damage.
I do assume you are referring to droop tips ?

The question is, would your sack handle 3.8g's x 40 pounds
or 152 pounds? If not, you should seriously consider reinforcing it,
because your elevator pushrod is right below it, and a bent pushrod
might ruin your day. (Not to mention running afoul of the flaperon
system.) I suspect you could see well over 3.8g's in the baggage
compartment if you hit just the right kind of bump, I designed mine
for 6g's / 240 pounds. I tested it by jumping up and down on it with
my 195 pounds.

It's a great place to install roller-blade wheels for those extreme
cross-wind landings, and for when you just can't seem to keep it straight. ;-)

Mine is accessed from the slope behind and above the seats.
The opening is small, probably 18 x 18, which limits what you can put
in. You certainly won't be putting in any folding bicycles! You can,
however, get camping gear in, as long as it's separated. (You can't
get a full size backpack in.)
I've attached three pictures. One shows the baggage opening
behind the seat. One shows half the baggage opening with the baggage
structure, but no side panels, and one good shot of the baggage
structure without the panels. Unfortunately I don't presently have
any shots with panels, but the panels are honeycomb glass on the
bottom and corrugated plastic on the sides. The baggage structure is
the silver aluminum angles. The white tubes are fuselage structure
and the silver tubes are fuel lines.

What an ingenious idea, splitting the turtledeck so you have
hatch access as well as internal access! I wish I'd thought of it,
although I guess it isn't too late to make a new turtledeck.
