I think it would be decent for egress as well on float plane ops if you end up inverted. :( :( :( -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada Flying Videos and Kitfox Info http://www.cfisher.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=164987#164987 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 05:53:33 AM PST US From: "fox5flyer" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: About flying...off topic? However, I cant get the Rotax 912 UL above 5000rpm. First tried it with GSC prop with the pitch reduced down to 15 deg. Then I installed an IFA Ivo 3 blade prop, still only 5000rpm. So I shortened it by 1" to 68" dia. , still only 5000rpm. In that case you can remove the weight of the whole landing gear (floats, struts and rigging) from the weight of the plane in flight or carry that much extra. Eg if the floats and rigging weigh 150 lb then you can safely fly on floats 150 lb over the rated gross for wheels... Of course that has to be listed as part of flight specifications when the plane is registered. In most places the builder is considered to be the manufacturer of the plane and as such can assign any reasonable spec he wants to the airframe. There are exceptions like the Canadian AULA which has to pass a conformity. Of course to be safe it is always best to consult the supplier of the kit before arbitrarily messing with the design or specs. I can't say for the Rotax because I have a Jabiru but ... on-the-ground static Wide-Open-Throttle RPM, initial climb WOT RPM and level flight WOT RPM are three distinct things with quite a difference. Maybe Ray is right, Eric; 5,000 might be good enough. Gear ratio 2,273 - 2550 rpm on prop, Max speed 110 mph? = 45,5" pitch / 68" diam = 15,87 degree at 75% of the radii! Not at tip! (tip is 12 deg.) (depending of blade twist) With a wood bar test club, instead of propeller with diameter 1108 mm (43,62") and a square (thick and wide) 73,9 mm (2,91") section, it will produce 80 HP at 5800/2552 RPM It have to be balanced! and doublers at the hub, each side. You have a planer in basement? or guy next door? or that guy down the street? yes him with the beautiful wife!
