Hi Kitfox Family..I took every one advice and ,Just finishing my
trailer.I took a boat trailer and converted it to carry all most any
tail dragger.on back wards..and all so.I can carry trike wheel aircraft
on front wards,,it can even carry all most any CESSNA single engine,,the
trailer is app 30ft.and the toung can come apart to fit in a single car
garage.all so the rear platform where the front tires sit.can be made
wider to fit all most any TW plane,by just pulling pins.and the darn
thing will fit in your 8X24ft garage.this is a protype trailer.I
thinking about mass producing these at a trailer company.to sell on the
market..the trailer even has wing racks to carry wings..what does evey
one think about it??any body interested in one??I will have it on
display at the Great Lakes Kitfox Fly In..May 11th at CQA Lake Field
Air Port ,Celina Ohio.if any one wants to take a better look..Steve

Hi,
Out of pure curiosity I checked the link you posted and I found out a
lot of
items have mysteriously disappeared from the Sportflight site since I
last
visited it (quite a long time ago to be true!)
In the "Trailer" section a picture is listed with my name but clicking
on
the link results inan error message. The image I had downloaded, more
than
10 years ago, is gone. As this was the drawing of the original trailer
the
factory had been using since the time Dan Denney was the owner I'm sure
many
of the actual list members would like to have a look at it. Fortunately
enough I still have the original drawing stored here, plus a copy of my
commentaries I had included for the original posting.
Anybody using this drawing should be aware that it stems from the
pre-SkyStar era, and thus some of the dimensions contained in them may
still
relate to some superseded model versions and thus be out of date.
Therefore,
all critical dimensions should be carefully checked against those of the
actual airplane before cutting any metal
Enjoy!
Regards,
Johannes

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this list, but have been reading it for a few days and it has
had many helpful hints and information.
I am going to pick up my (new to me) Kitfox V vixen on Friday and will need
to haul it about 700 miles. I was wondering if someone would be so kind as
to email me a picture or drawing of how the wings/tail ties down. The plane
does not have those items with it and the current owner has never done it.
Any information would be helpful
Thanks

Here are some pictures of my Kitfox trailer that I built using a boat
trailer. I built It so the fox would ride as low to the ground as
possible and in an almost level position. I must say works very well. I
usually haul a short distance but I think it would work very well on
long hauls too.=C2-
The reason for the long ramps is I wanted to keep the wheel pants on an
I use the ramps for scaffolding and didn't want to cut them.=C2-

Re trailering, I have trailed my Avid tail-first thousands of miles in
the
past 15 years, since all the fields that I fly from are at least 45
miles
from my home in the Washington DC suburbs. I designed and welded up a
multipurpose custom trailer which fits the Avid, my J-3 Kitten, and my
VW
dune buggy. One size fits all! I keep the Avid on its trailer in my
garage
and when I want to fly, I just open the garage door, roll it out and
hook it
on the car. At the airport, I can get it off of the trailer, unfold
the
wings and be taxiing in less than 10 minutes. I tow the Avid at about
65-70
mph except in very windy conditions. The two worst problems with
trailering
on an open trailer are rain, and large trucks, which have serious wake
vortices. I therefore avoid driving behind any large boxy trucks!
It=92s very important to restrain the elevators (both sides) and the
rudder
securely. Trailering is harder on the aircraft than anything except
crashing! After a bad experience I constructed additional support
struts to
go from the forward =93tow on its own wheels=94 point to the wings
folded strut.
This essentially triangulates the wing support point, greatly lessening
any
possible movement. I also do not tow with anything more than a couple
of
gallons of fuel in the wing tank. I also welded up a pipe handle, which
plugs into the =93tow on its own wheels=94 tubes and greatly aids in
getting the
Avid on and off the trailer, and maneuvering the plane while on the
ground.

Ted, When the wings of a tri gear plane are folded back it becomes a tail dragger,
ie the tail sits on the ground. I heard of a tri gear avid flyer that had
it's fuselage bent enough to wrinkle the fabric from being improperly secured
to a trailer. This one was transported on a long flatbed trailer that was kind
of light duty. A tail support was secured to the trailer deck under the tail
to keep the nose wheel down on the deck and the tail was tied down to the support.
The nose wheel was also tied down to the deck. It was towed about 700
miles I think. The trailer flexed enough to bend the fuselage.
My thinking on this is if there is any chance the transport may flex, either the
nose or the tail can be on the deck but not both. Just something to consider.
