      Hi Lynn,

I know we're not suppose to continue the Sky King thread, but your mention of the
"High Flight" sign-off, which was cool, especially with the various fighters
of previous years, caused an idea to form. How about a "Low Flight" sign-off
with a Kitfox? (with apologies to John Magee)

Woah! I have skipped the dusty roads of earth
      And danced the treetops on lightly-silvered wings;
Cloudward I've climbed, and joined the winging birds
below sun-split clouds - and done a few things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
Low in the sunlit pastures. Hov'ring there
I've chased the mooing cow along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up and down the fields, rivers, lakes,
I've topped the windswept bushes with easy grace
Where every lark, or even sparrow flew -
And, while with silent giddy mind I've trod
The low oft tresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

I put on Vgs last fall, really not alot of gain but I have not taken them off
yet . I have on Wings only. I will tell you that they have reduced the buffet
prior to power on stalls and made power off stalls pretty well just a controlled
      mush.

Kitfox is pretty well equipped with stock wings, VGs ok but not nesessary for great
      STOL performance.

You guys should get some videos of your Kitfox in Action no matter if a 100 foot
take off or 700 foot like some of the heavy ones.

| Subject: | Re: FL Dept Rev - Sales and Use Tax on Aircraft Owners and |
      Purch..

You know this thing has gotten a little out of hand. I live in Pensacola Fl
and bought my Kitfox in November. I trailered it in from Mass. and paid the
sales tax to Fl on my purchase price of $30000. (that hurt)
The tax, like most other states, is on aircraft, boats, etc that are based in
the state. Up in this area, a lot of people go to Alabama, buy their stuff and

come back to Fl where they live. Alabama charges very little if any tax for
anything.(maybe that might be part of the reason they got the Air Force tanker

      contract ?)
Anyway, Florida had only one guy in the tax dept. that handled aviation.
His name was Bo but he recently retired so another guy took over (no, his name

is not Bubba) I talked with him directly when I paid my taxes. Nice guy but of

course, pay up so as to avoid penalties.
If you live and are based in Michigan, as an example, and come to Sun and
Fun don't expect to get a tax bill. Now if you base your aircraft here (had a
condo or something) and decided to buy a new airplane in another state to avoid

paying Fl sales taxes, now that is another story.
Now with all this said, I am not a fan of any tax, but after the state of
California drug me into court to pay sales tax on another aircraft and the only

way I got out of it was because I was in the military (years ago), I pay up.
It isn't worth the lawyers, etc.to avoid paying the correct tax.
Bottom line, enjoy sun and fun.
                                                                      Dick Maddux

                                                                      Pensacola,Fl

      Pat,

Rather that an intercom, I installed a Micro-Air M720 radio with side-tone that
serves as an intercom. The unit is tiny, fits into a 2" hole and works great.
The only disadvantage is that with the side-tone, the intercom mic is always
"hot" can result in alot of background noise. To counter this I have a toggle
switch to turn the intercom off/on. I advise passengers, "if you have to talk
to me, flip this switch." Keeps the chit-chat down.

we flew the KF tires off black top quite a bit this spring and summer with no noticeable
wear. We ran them at 6-8 PSI with no issues. For true hardcore off
airport flying you need to be able to get them down to 2-3 PSI to soak up the
      bumps / rocks.

I bought a set of used aerocet amphibs for my model 3, and I'm getting them ready
to install. During this process, I realized that the brake calipers are mounted
on the left side of the wheel for both mains. Is this the correct way
to install them, or was something installed incorrectly? I also am in need of
the fuselage brace that is needed for the model 3 but not needed for later models.
If anyone has one, or even a picture and can tell me what to make it out
      of, let me know.
      Thanks,

      Louie

Funny thing: Being a photographer you may have noticed this. I looked
through a catalogue of the flags of the world... there are several tri
colours...France, Germany, the Vatican etc. There are several what I call
geometric designs... Japan, Canada, Newfoundland. But there are two flags
that stand out strictly form a design point. These flags are easily
recognizable even if the colours were completely washed out. They are the
Union Jack and the U.S. Flag. I find it interesting that Englishmen,
separated by a little scuffle in the mid 18th century, were behind the
      design of both flags.

No problem, John, and just to show how the English language is all
      messed up, take this example:

If you take your sentence below...."Here's a URL".....and mentally
said the word URL as "earl" then the word "an" should have preceded
it, as in "here's an earl" , but if you say each letter of the
acronym "URL" individually, then the sentence needs the word/letter
"a" proceeding the "you" "are" "ell", as in "Here's a you-are-ell"

It's no wonder that this language that we speak is so convoluted and
      hard to learn.

Do you suppose that the extra year extension of this requirement will
see millions of us running to get educated so as to meet that
      requirement? : )

Yes this is correct. Also check both trailing arms and all SS parts for cracks
or fatigue. They will bend and crack in time. good design but poor strength with
the SS used. If you operate off grass strips and use seaplane ramps expect
more repairs but they still quite usable. I have them on mine and they are
      a very aerodynamic float.

I have a IV so I have no idea on the fuselage brace you mention.

      Pat,

I have no idea what the trade difference might be but Icom has a newer
version of your radio that has several new bells and whistles. Among them
is a built in voice activated intercom and dual watch. I think it's the
IC-A210. NO new holes needed in the panel.

Rather that an intercom, I installed a Micro-Air M720 radio with
side-tone that serves as an intercom. The unit is tiny, fits into a 2" hole
and works great. The only disadvantage is that with the side-tone, the
intercom mic is always "hot" can result in alot of background noise. To
counter this I have a toggle switch to turn the intercom off/on. I advise
passengers, "if you have to talk to me, flip this switch." Keeps the
      chit-chat down.

we flew the KF tires off black top quite a bit this spring and summer
with no noticeable wear. We ran them at 6-8 PSI with no issues. For
true hardcore off airport flying you need to be able to get them down to
2-3 PSI to soak up the bumps / rocks.

Found out today my tach is not accurate and will need to be replaced as it cannot

Had a UMA 2 1/4" worked okay. Now have EFIS. Not sure of the best price but Aircraft
Spruce has traditional looking UMA for 912 $112.00 or lighted $132.00.
