From: "rudderdancer" Hi Lynn, I know we're not suppose to continue the Sky King thread, but your mention of the "High Flight" sign-off, which was cool, especially with the various fighters of previous years, caused an idea to form. How about a "Low Flight" sign-off with a Kitfox? (with apologies to John Magee) Woah! I have skipped the dusty roads of earth And danced the treetops on lightly-silvered wings; Cloudward I've climbed, and joined the winging birds below sun-split clouds - and done a few things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung Low in the sunlit pastures. Hov'ring there I've chased the mooing cow along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up and down the fields, rivers, lakes, I've topped the windswept bushes with easy grace Where every lark, or even sparrow flew - And, while with silent giddy mind I've trod The low oft tresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. -------- Kitfox II, 582, Tundra Tires, rusty pilot. You know this thing has gotten a little out of hand. I live in Pensacola Fl and bought my Kitfox in November. I trailered it in from Mass. and paid the sales tax to Fl on my purchase price of $30000. (that hurt) The tax, like most other states, is on aircraft, boats, etc that are based in the state. Up in this area, a lot of people go to Alabama, buy their stuff and come back to Fl where they live. Alabama charges very little if any tax for anything.(maybe that might be part of the reason they got the Air Force tanker contract ?) Anyway, Florida had only one guy in the tax dept. that handled aviation. His name was Bo but he recently retired so another guy took over (no, his name is not Bubba) I talked with him directly when I paid my taxes. Nice guy but of course, pay up so as to avoid penalties. If you live and are based in Michigan, as an example, and come to Sun and Fun don't expect to get a tax bill. Now if you base your aircraft here (had a condo or something) and decided to buy a new airplane in another state to avoid paying Fl sales taxes, now that is another story. Now with all this said, I am not a fan of any tax, but after the state of California drug me into court to pay sales tax on another aircraft and the only way I got out of it was because I was in the military (years ago), I pay up. It isn't worth the lawyers, etc.to avoid paying the correct tax. Bottom line, enjoy sun and fun. Dick Maddux Fox4-1200 Pensacola,Fl **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Funny thing: Being a photographer you may have noticed this. I looked through a catalogue of the flags of the world... there are several tri colours...France, Germany, the Vatican etc. There are several what I call geometric designs... Japan, Canada, Newfoundland. But there are two flags that stand out strictly form a design point. These flags are easily recognizable even if the colours were completely washed out. They are the Union Jack and the U.S. Flag. I find it interesting that Englishmen, separated by a little scuffle in the mid 18th century, were behind the design of both flags. They will bend and crack in time. good design but poor strength with the SS used. If you operate off grass strips and use seaplane ramps expect more repairs but they still quite usable. I have them on mine and they are a very aerodynamic float.
