I have on Wings only. I will tell you that they have reduced the buffet prior to power on stalls and made power off stalls pretty well just a controlled mush. Kitfox is pretty well equipped with stock wings, VGs ok but not nesessary for great STOL performance. You guys should get some videos of your Kitfox in Action no matter if a 100 foot take off or 700 foot like some of the heavy ones. I found hubs for about 40.00 each, a set of hubs for 50.00 and used the brakes from the original Matco Wheels. You just have to get little lugs welded to the wheels to bolt the brakes on. Dave: There is a V shaped brace of around 1/2" tubing tha connects between the front left ( pilot side) forward gear attach point and the same point on the right side. It then forms a "V" with another tube going back to the second landing gear take off point on the left side.. This strengthened the frame of the plane while on floats... I was going to take a picture of the one on my plane today bur was out for most of the morning. If there isn't a picture posted by tomorrow I'll take one and post it. They will bend and crack in time. good design but poor strength with the SS used. If you operate off grass strips and use seaplane ramps expect more repairs but they still quite usable. I have them on mine and they are a very aerodynamic float. According to the Avid flight manual, after 23 degrees of flap when you input aileron, the down aileron creates too much drag and will pull the plane around to that side. you input left aileron and the plane goes right... When I an at low speeds and pulling flaps must turning is with the rudder anyway. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 IVO IFA Full Lotus 1260 95% complete Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=172043#172043

Hi Gang, after two years of rebuilding and a wide body and a nose gear conversion mod, N58EW took to the air today. It flew nicely but since I have not flown a Kitfox or the like before I see that the light controls will get some getting use to. The little black ball looked like I was playing PinBall with it. However , I did have one serious issue that I need to resolve before further flights. When I reduce power to about 4500 RPM the engine starts shaking badly and it continues to shake down to about 3500 RPM. Below and above that range it runs fine. On the ground it seems to run fine. During mag check, one side drops more just a little more then the other and shakes a bit. Oh yes, the engine is a 912UL with a IFA Ivo. any ideas? Eric N58EW speedster

Dave, GREAT info. I called Jim Fahey the other day. He owns the rights to the aerocet 1100's and has all the forms, molds, jigs etc. for them and has some new parts. The first thing he asked was if I had a "channel type" or a "box type" trailing arm. I looked and mine is the box type. He said that the failure that your pics show are likely with the channel style, so I was aware of the concern. The process that I am going through right now is to identify these problems and fix them. I have looked over the left main pretty good and only found one bolt that needed attention. I didn't do a dye-penetrate test (don't have the "stuff") but I looked it over real good. I even put on my glasses. Tomorrow I move to the right side. By the way, Mr. Fahey would like to sell the rights, equipment, and supplies for the aerocet 1100's if anyone would like to go into the float business. Again, thanks for the info. you got me... yes i ment that you use the fingernail polish to to mark the instruments, unless you are in seattle or california, in which case, your A&P may, better appreciate, the use of neon green, snow white, pimping yellow and super succulent red. Make sure you get an extra bottle of each to leave with the mechanic. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 IVO IFA Full Lotus 1260 95% complete Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=172095#172095

Had a chat with the Kitfox people at air adventure last year in regards to that very question. They tried both 70 and 72" on their factory plane an said the 70" is faster at cruise and the 72" better at climb. 72" if your thinking about floats. I should have contacted the Ivoprop to see if they would cut a 71". That would be interesting! I just received my new 70" electric Ivoprop this month and would love to try / buy a 72" cut down to 71". Anyone interested in a 70" electric Ivoprop. I believe they are about 3 months behind on orders. ----- Original Message ---- From: wadegreaves <reinagreaves@comcast.net> Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2008 10:45:09 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: Warp drive size? Thanks for the clarification.... : ) Actually..., we *do *use clear nail polish in the restoration shop. Wires are often wrapped an\or bundled using the old fashion "friction tape"..., you know, the sticky black stuff that we used as kids to re-wrap worn baseballs. After the wraping\bundeling is complete, the tape is coated with the clear polish to seal the tape from moisture. Looks good, and lasts for years. This is standard in the military maintenance manuals from the '40's, except they specify clear industrial lacquer. No tie-wraps in an "original" Stearman or T-6 The little bottle of polish is easier to work with, and lives in the tool box quite nice. Steve Benesh A&P,I.A. KF5\912UL

I might be interested in the blades, if you are staying with IVOPROP electric you can probably use the same hub. Give me a call any time and we can talk about it. (989) 387-4662 Louie Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=172112#172112

Oh yes, the engine is a 912UL with a IFA Ivo. any ideas? Subject: Inspecting Spars & Struts
    From: "tinnemaha" <tinnemaha@hotmail.com>
Hello list, I'm deep into my first annual (condition) inspection (TT = 167 hrs!) and am having trouble figuring out how to inspect the wing spar and/or lift struts, other than just looking from the outside. The lift struts are buried in their fairings and, of course, the spars are under the fabric. Sure, I can see the ends & outsides, but is that enough? What do you all do? Sorry if this is a repeat subject.......I couldn't find it in the archives. This is off the Kitfox topic but I am posting on behalf of a couple of grandkids that think that they want to start a plane washing biz. Do any of you know what the charge for such is in your area if it is available? When I was in Phoenix a few years ago it was $75 for just a simple wash job anything more was extra.
