Thanks for the Picture of The broken 3 bladed IVO Prop above. IVOs are not
as tough as I thought. In the IVO instructions it says not to use a three b
laded prop with a certain redrive combo. I bought a model II that had this
forbidden combo. I saw excessive wear on the RK400 clutch and belived it wa
s due to the 3 blade and the Redrive combo.

Subject: | Insurance Inquiry |
I know this subject has been discussed many times and all the information
I have saved is over a year or two old. I'm just checking to see if the
quote I got seems to be in line with what others are paying.
I am able to prove about 450 hours of flight time (lost one log book
somewhere along the way) about 80 of which is tail-wheel time. 55 hours of
the tail-wheel time is in an AVID which is what I am building (with a
STRATUS EA-81 engine). The quote I received is from Falcon Ins. through
EAA. The quote is $1740.00 annually. That would give me $32,000 on the
hull and $1mil liability. If I choose liability only the quote is $650.00.
Builder's risk, which I think I need now, is $400.00 annually. This policy
will cover first flight with no requirement for dual due to the time I have
in make/model.
Do these figures seem to be in line with what you are paying? I
appreciate your comments. Thanks.

That is about the same as what I pay for the same coverage for full coverage
on a classic VI also with a STRATUS EA-81 engine.

Subject: | Tailwheels: Maule vs. Scott vs. Matco |
Anyone have experience with these different tailwheel assembiles? What are the
pros and cons of each (aside from the cost)? Seems like about 50% of guys like
the Maule tailwheel and the other 50% say it has serious shimmy problems and
that this is not the case with the Scott. What about the Matco setup?
My last Kitfox had a Maule setup and I must admit, I did have a couple problems
with shimmy on landings...nothing major but shimmy none the less. Do the others
not shimmy at all or just less?

Andy,
I have an independent agent who may be able to beat that. He beat Falcon by a
lot each year. We have slightly different airplane/experience, so no sense of
us guessing. I have no interests in him, but if you would like his info PM me.

I am trying to find a source for stainless steel exhaust crossover for a
Subie EA81 Turbo. Does any one know of a source. One person told me that
subies have a problem with cracks and leakage of the crossover sometimes
with as low as 100 hours. Anyone have that problem?
Thanks

I had Dawley Aviation make one up for me in stainless steel. They still
have the jig. Just call 'em up. Mine was for an NSI EA81 Turbo. I could
not be happier with the results. It fit *perfectly* right out of the box.

When I still owned a NSI Turbo EA81 engine, I ordered one of the Dawley
crossover exhaust packages and it fit perfectly out of the box. I have
never had something like that fit so perfectly. I also could not have been
happier! I had them include the welded fittings for two exhaust sensors.
It was all great.

Looks about right to me. I pay about $580 to Avemco for $1M liability.

Greetings,
Annual time and thought since i was getting pretty high EGT's over the
winter that i would investigate settings.
Ranch altitude is 2000 and i have 165 main jets in my bing 582. My
clips are set on third notch.
Any slight deceleration from my typical cruise of 5900 sends the EGT's
to 1230 unless i add power or during landing config lower the RPMs to
the low range.
Been flying too long without change and have forgotten all the good advice.
Tips?

Yep the dawley production of the Tom Anderson design and jig are the
ticket. Never had any problem with them. The next thing you will want
is a major head rework to include stainless valves. I also had Swain do
a heat coating and stem coating on the valves.
