Sorry to hear that, Lowell and Kay, via Guy. But I understand about
the "litigious climate." We'll just have to think of other ways to
get together....Oshkosh comes to mind....

Please also convey my best sympathy to Lowell and Kay, Guy. I have been thinking
about them lately and wished to have some news. I understand perfectly their
situation and if I was to end in such a situation they are, I don't know if I
would have enough energy to continue thinking of a Kitfox. Perhaps time will
arrange things. Right now, I am thinking to put my life long sailing experience
behind me and that's hard enough.
Best regards,

It is sad to hear that your event has been canceled. Another option you
might consider for next year is to team up with an EAA chapter as the EAA
will cover the insurance. There are some rules to follow but for the
insurance it is a really good tradeoff .

It is with real regret that Kay and I are cancelling the 2008 (what
would have been the tenth annual) Kitfox Fly-in and BBQ. The
problem? California's litigious climate and other factors. Thanks to
the Arlington jury award of several years ago. Insurance is simply
not available and the new trend is for medical insurers to go after
hosts of events for cost reimbursements in the case of illness or
injury. We have not worried about our friends, but we worry greatly
about third parties with financial considerations dictated by CFOs
and Corporate attorneys (Not guys and gals with Kitfoxes with big
grins on their faces).
We are sad. We have many fond memories of the good times and good
folks we have met who have become good friends over the
years. Golden West has approached us in the past and encouraged us
to use their venue for our event. That may work in the future if
there is sufficient interest, but definitely not this year.
Our sincere apologies for the late announcement, but we have been
beating the bushes and hoping and have simply run out of time.

hi all, i built my dakota hawk in a 22x16 shop which is in my30x45 pole

adjust all the controls. i live in n. wis. and heating only the shop was no
big deal. completely insulating and heating the barn would have been another
story.if you are thinking of using radiant heat from the floor you are
definitely not in my income class and if you are thinking of using wood that
adds a lot more difficulty to the project. i have a wall mounted non vented
15,000 btu gas heater that always keeps the shop 55 deg when i am not using
it. when i work i use a small vented wall mounted forced air furnace.
although i have tested the nonvented unit for CO emissions and they are nil,
it does give off a little odor. i like using it to keep the temp at 55 deg.
as it is 100% efficient.
i live in one of the colder parts of the country and fuel costs are a
consideration to me.
in the next year i will be moving the plane to my hangar[ if i hadnt broken
my arm and 2 ribs last sunday it would have been this november!] and for
sure i will put a very small heated shop in a corner of my hangar. i see so
many times a pilot has to make several trips to repair something that could
have been done on the spot. shop can be small, 10x12, enough for a bench and
tools. probably a couple electric space heaters will be enough. and a
picture window so i can sit in my chair and drink a beer while i gawk at my
plane when nothing needs tweaking! just my thoughts, bob noffs

Have a Classic Kitfox IV 1050lb 100% completed.
Thinking of clipping the wing and installing a Speedster wing tip.
Does anyone have a diagram of the Speedster wing measurements?
Also in the process of installing a radiator scoop for the Rotax 912ul.
Kitfox has the tips for $170 each, plus $350 for hardware.

I'm not sure if building a pole barn using a Steel Building kit is the way

There are many vendors out there with, I'm sure, different levels of value.
Anyone have experience?

Final Stats: for the Labor Day Fly-in
Lynn,
Another great opportunity for us Kitfox guys to get together is at the Factory
fly-in in September. Seems an ideal place for a bunch of Kitfox guys to enjoy
the atmosphere, share stories and have a good time. I posted the details from
last years fly-in below. This was the first year for the fly-in so it should
only get larger.
40 Aircraft total
33 Kitfox's
over 80 people
2 new Airworthiness inspections - Tom Wolfe and Mark Smith
2 First Flights - Tom Wolfe and Mark Smith
Kitfoxer's from UK and Russia were here.
Farthest flown Kitfox was Rocky & Denise Whitman from Wimberley Texas.. approximately
50 miles SSE of Austin Texas.
My 7 should be flying by then so I am planning on attending. I would be nice to
start putting names to faces.

I've used Prestone and Havoline, either one is good, just make sure they
are
Silicate free and Aluminum protected. They come in a container with an
Orange
lid and the Antifreeze is also Orange in color. Mix is 50 / 50 (
water and antifreeze )

The database and firmware were just upgraded 05/2008. Includes a Panel
Mounting bracket, GPS Antenna, cigarette lighter adapter, carrying case, and all
manuals. Brand new, never used. No scratches. The pictures below are of
the actual unit. The LCD color display on the IIIC is extremely nice and very
bright. Gives altitude readout. RS232 output.
I have over $2500 invested in this complete system. I will sell it for $2200 plus
shipping to anywhere in the world. I can accept Visa/MC. First come, first
served.
Please email me off list at dralle@matronics.com if you are interested.

Subject: | Re: Cancelled - 2008 Cameron Park Fly-in |
I would not likely have made it anyway, but I understand the insurance
problem. I was once part of a loose group of dual sport motorcyclists
who got together in Moab every year to meet, ride and BS over 3-4 days.
In a few years it built into a group of over 40 participants and we had
organized it into an event with catered dinners and prize giveaways.
There was a small local motorcycle shop run by a single owner/employee
who was on our email group and supported the event. Since we were
riding in groups to different trails on National park land the Park
Service became aware and contacted the organizer with the requirement of
event insurance costing over $2000. This whole thing is much like our
Kitfox group. We had no organization, no elected leaders or any kind of
dues. It's just an email group so we had no funds to support insurance
plus it just wasn't worth the insurance cost since there was no profit
to cover that expense. What we did was lower our profile and not have
more than about 6 bikes ride together through the Park gates at one time.
It's sad that this sort of thing can spoil a gathering, but I think it
can be done with another approach to the way the event is put together.
Maybe like Pete suggests a bunch just happened to show up the same day.
What were the odds? :-)

Good post Rex. Lots of stuff to think about. Too bad about Lowell's flyin
though. I'm on the wrong end of the country so I was unable to attend any
of them, but it's still a loss to me knowing that it won't be there anymore,
nor will I be able to read all the emails about how it went, and also the
photos of those who attended. I do understand Lowell's predicament though.
It gets to where you're almost afraid to let someone drive into your
driveway anymore. Damn shame.

Evans EPG is the only coolant I could find mentioned by name in the Rotax operating
manual. Switching to it solve an occasional boil over problem I'd had until
then.

How do you deal with the moisture from the unvented heater? It would put
out gobs of water(voice of experience).

Subject: | hangar, pole building |
picking the pole building is a very personalized process. i went with
morton and they were one of the most expensive ones. this is out of
character for me but their cost was outweighed by features they supplied
and i wanted. you have to
do your homework and get some comparison charts going. i am very
satisfied with the morton and i must say the workmanship was first rate.
these guys had worked together A LOT and there was never a wasted motion
or a goof i noticed. the quality of your building will depend a lot by
how good the crew is.
morton had no limit on the snow load to guarantee the roof. not a big
deal for some locations but it counts where i live.
no easy way to pick the right one. you have to dig in and become a
polebarn expert.

Subject: | Re: Finished Kitfox 2 |
Steve,
I took up a Kitfox 2 tri gear tonight that I have in for service. Flew quite
well although i prefer my IV over it and it really had very little adverse yaw
as I have noticed on kitfox 1 and 2 and 3 models in the past . Would the nose
gear have anything to do with that ?
Also, Cannot make your flyin, A few reasons, wx is "supposed" to be ugly for Sunday
ands the customs looks like it would have been an issue . Maybe another
time elsewhere? Hope you guys have a good time .
Might do a Long point run in the AM though . It is 23 miles out into Lake erie
and we land at the tip. Some on floats others like me on wheels. If They show
up with a coleman stove , bacon and eggs we will go for sure.
Best Regards,
Dave
