HI to all on the list ,I am building Kit fox model 4 1200 converted to tricycle undercarriage I have been advised not to use the GSC wooden prop due to several cases of blade shedding. Has anyone fitted the inflight adj Ivoprop and have there been any technical problems with the Adjusting mechanism. Checked by AVG. 7:42 PM

Tony, I have a 72" IVO inflight adjust on my Kitfox. Just yesterday I had a wire come loose from the brush connection at the prop. The prop was configured for cruise when it stopped working so my only concern on landing was the performance I would be dealing with in a go around situation. It was a simple fix and now I have a little sealer in there to help hold in place. Some people have reported issues with the brushes themselves. The other problem is setting up for max rpms on takeoff. It seems to take many small adjustments throughout the takeoff run. Maybe it's just me or the fact I have a 914 turbo engine. My choice would be a ground adjustable for a 912 or 912s just for simplicity. Overall it seems to be a very good performer and a great price. One that I bought on EBay from eagleaviationllc , in Oshkosh had a bad motor and some stripped gears in the reduction unit. I don't think this is a common fault as long as Ivo's recommended procedures are followed. You might ask Ron at Ivo, perhaps this prop was installed incorrectly , or what could cause this. Ivo was very helpful in getting me the correct setup, as the EBay prop was not the correct unit for my installation on a 582 Rotax. I went with the ground adjustable and understand I can upgrade with a In flight adj. package should I wish in the future By the way, Service bulletin #17 states, "that the ENGINE side rail mount must not be used with a 3.47 or 4.0 to 1 gearbox. " Does any one know why ? What would one do if they wanted to use a 3.47 gearbox in the way of mounting the engine ? Any known fixes? I got a new E box with a blue head engine and would like to use the new stuff when I decide to do the 300 hr thing. Gary Glasgow Kitfox lll #1165 N4276M

Gary, What ratio gear box do you have? I run 3 to 1 now and have tried 2.62 and it gave worse performance. I was actually thinking of trying a 3.47 or 4 to 1 this summer. I have over 450 hours on my 582 right now since June 06 and never been apart yet. What engine are you using for your 1200 ? GSC a decent prop but on the 912s a IVO works a bit better. On a 582 you won't seem much difference. By the way and prop will fly apart, I have seen WARP, GSC and IVOs come apart. -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada Flying Videos and Kitfox Info http://www.cfisher.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=183583#183583

When I do need to redo the engine, which currently has 200 lb compression and 2 70 + hrs, I want to put a blue head with a 3.47-1 E box and a 3 blade 70 inch Medium Ivo on that I acquired a while ago. I expect top speed to be a little slower----but believe I will have better torque for takeoff and climb. I have never heard a explanation for bulletin # 17, but believe the increased amount of torque may lead to failure of the case bolts to the side engine mount. However nothing is said about if you mount the engine with the old flat plate under the base of the engine. I believe the bulletin was put in place by the Rotax engineers. Subject: Converting to a tail dragger?
    From: "WurlyBird" <james.t.trizzino@us.army.mil>
I am considering buying a partially complete Kitfox V Vixen and I am trying to determine what it would take to convert it to a tail dragger. I have already contacted Kitfox and they say it can't be done. I believe it can be done and i am just trying to figure out how much trouble it would be. It is a tricycle based on a tail dragger design, so what's a little reverse engineering? The kit already has dual brakes so moving the gear forward pretty much comes down to; how much reinforcement is needed in the area of the gear mounts that is not already present in the Vixen fuselage? Other then that I see it as being a straight forward switch with Outback gear which is also solid aluminum and just a little shorter. And for the tail, the two concerns are mounting and control. In my mind it could be as simple as welding a plate to mount the leaf springs to but for some reason i just don't think it will be that simple. What exactly does it take to solidly mount a tail wheel? And the Vstab is swept back, about 15-20 degree. I have been told this is a problem for a tail dragger but I don't know why. My best guess is it makes for uneven control inputs for a steering assist tailwheel, does that sound right? So the question there would be; can't it work with just a swivel wheel and no assist? Obviously it would take more attention to drive around but hell, they used to just put skids on the tail. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
