Very nice interior, Guy. Quite a departure from the conventional Kitfox. I'll be using a Rotax 912 and want to see how people are monitoring their engines. I'm not real wild about the EIS engine monitors, they don't seem very intuitive to me and want to see what others have done.. Here's mine! Basic VFR. The best thing about it is the EIS! How's that for a difference of opinion! The only other "unique" thing is the Becker transponder. I paid a little extra for a minimum weight unit; as you can see, I have a major in minimum weight, with a minor in aesthetics. (The original builder had a T&B and VSI which I didn't install because I didn't think I'd ever use them and I saved a little weight.) By the way, the panel's carbon with a wood veneer clear coated with semi-gloss Sterling. thanks mostly to Bob Ducar. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 03:48:57 AM PST US From: "Dave" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Show us your panel!! From: "FlyboyTR" Guy, Thanks. glad you like it! The engine monitor is from Vision Microsystems: http://www.visionmicrosystems.com/ Model # VM1000. Ive been very pleased with it and it monitors everything (including all four cylinders CHT/EGT) plus fuel management. With such precise monitoring, I can run lean of peak when at altitude (the Continental IO-240 Fuel Injected engine does very well with Lean of Peak). The round instrument under the transponder is a Rocky Mountain Encoder: http://www.rkymtn.com/ It handles the Mode C altitude encoding. The following info is also available visually/digitally; VSI, ASI, Altitude, Barometer (adjustable), Density Altitude, Pressure Altitude, True Airspeed, Outside Temp, Speed Alarms (Flaps, Gear, Stall, etc). It provides an enormous amount of info in a very small space. James as a former 23 year Marine you guys are our heroes. AS for my mountain flying, lets see, I once took off in the mountains with a 9K DA wind blowing 30 gust to 43 switching back a forth 20 degrees to either side of the runway. I had 4 guys walk my wings out on the kitfox to get me to the runway. I should have know better and when the guys yelled to their friends "hey you guys got to see this", that should also have been my clue to listen to the small voice in my head that was saying " hey dumb ass what are you doing. It went fine, bounced and twisted every which way but straight until I hit 8,500 where it smoothed out. Wont say I was scared but the wood stick grip had to be sanded from the sweat raising the grain. Would I do it again. Don't think so. Glad I did it then, yep. Unfortunately heroes like you and John do not get to choose what kind of crap you fly in. That's why you and all those in harms way are so appreciated by those that know what sacrifice is. Since I am in Afghanistan right now every day is an adventure flying. This is some of the most unforgiving terrain you can imagine. The other day we were flying down a valley at about 200' agl and I realized that we didn't pass a single, reasonable, forced landing area for about 5 minutes. 45 degree walls going straight into a river. A few weeks ago we were on the floor of a valley about 200 meters wide where we had to keep doing U-turns and yet stay low, again with 45 degree walls on either side. It came down to doing a chandelle or wingover type maneuver in a 5000 lb helicopter and recovering at about 20' agl. All this and at 8-10,000' DA. So what are YOUR mountain flying stories? I want to hear about it. -------- Prospective Kitfox buyer Here for information on airframes and engines Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=183862#183862 ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 08:51:24 AM PST US From: "Rick" Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: NSI parts If it is not turbo you can go to a smaller unit but here is a pic of how I did mine. I highly recommend the thermostat by pass unit. I have seen the coolers mounted on top as well, think John Anderson did it that way. May be some old shots stored. I don't have the cooler but I still have the breathers and some other NSI related gear to include a turbo block prepared by RAM.
