Congratulations Danny! What a huge step up from N24ZM! I can't imagine what it would be like sitting in an airplane ten miles out and my mind still on the runway. They call those things F1 Rockets for a good reason. When you finish up figuring out what happened with your Dynon, give us a report and send us some photos. Again, good luck with your future flights. Deke Morisse Mikado Michigan S5/Subaru/CAP 370+ TT "The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress." - Joseph Joubert Well, today was the day and I=99ve finally flown my Rocket. It=99s been a long time coming and I=99m just over the moon with how well things went. I am a relatively low time pilot (< 300hrs) and I had not flown much of anything thing in the last 4 years. I knew going into this project that the Rocket was going to be a big step up in performance as all of my time up to very recently had been in my Kitfox. In preparation for the Rocket I got myself back into flying by getting my biannual and high performance endorsement in a =9956 182. I know the 182 is not considered much of a high performance aircraft but compared to the Kitfox it was. This was also my first exposure to constant speed props. After this I got some dual in a RV-6 (10 hrs and 87 landings) with me in the right seat. In addition to this my brother has a really sweet Extra 300LP so I took advantage of any time it was available and flew it from the front seat. This was great prep for the Rocket as the sight picture is very similar (the Rocket has better vis over the nose) as is the takeoff performance (the Rocket beats it here too) and overall sound/feel. With all this recent experience I=99ve been pretty confident I could handle the Rocket. All that I needed was a good day and that day has finally come. I don=99t quite remember much of the takeoff other than I was grinning from ear to ear and the plane went straight as an arrow. My plan was to stay in the pattern for a bit but shortly after lift off the tower called and said if I was going to keep climbing I needed to contact Orlando Approach. At quick glance at the altimeter showed I was at 3000=9D and climbing (=9Cgee no wonder the earth was falling away so fast=9D) so I switched frequencies, checked in with Orlando and settled in at 4500=99. After setting power @24/24 I let the airplane accelerate and started to get a feel for things. I don=99t remember any of the numbers but the general feeling of the airplane is fantastic. The other thing a noticed very quickly was how much ground it was capable of covering in a short period of time. As in =9Cheywhere=99d the airport go?=9D After approx 15 min I figured it was time to get a feel for the lower end of the speed envelope so I slowed it down, got the flaps out, and did some slow flight and approach stalls. All of this was a piece of cake so I brought the power back up to start climbing and the master engine caution alarm went off with a high oil pressure alarm. This got my attention pretty quick (as it should) but the engine sounded ok and after checking the Dynon EMS-10 it was apparent that all of the sensors were having an issue. Heeding the advice of many that it=99s better to trouble shoot things on the ground I headed back to the airport. The approach was very easy to manage and the landing was pretty fair. Two light skips and she settled on all three and rolled out without much input from me. All in all it was a great first flight. Rich, those are some pretty impressive numbers. Did your cruise speed change any? Can you send us any photos of your placement? What model Fox do you have and what is your empty weight? I have close to nothing in gap between the vertical stab, and rudder, because I have different hinges (-4-1200), and foam-filler on the stab to minimize clearance. As far as I remember, you Michel has the KF-3 with the same type of hinges on the rudder as you have on the elevator. This will create a gap of aprox 1/2". It should give more directional authority when landing in crosswind conditions. Not that I have tested much myself, though; as a Norwegian, I am just as scared as you are of crosswind! :-) Cheers, Michel

    From: "wingnut" <wingnut@spamarrest.com>
I got this from the ROAN Rotax owners FAQ: -I have a bad mag drop, what do I do? First determine if you have a carburetor problem or a ignition problem; (WHAT?? Yes, the Rotax 9 series dual carb system can confuse the owner as a carb problem may show up as a high mag drop on one ignition system) Procedure: - Run the engine at 4000rpm (approx 1700 prop rpm) and perform a mag check. Record the numbers. - Slowly pull the choke out half way, the RPM should rise about 200 RPM. - Try the mag drop and record numbers. - If the problem is worse or better the carbs are suspect. - If there is no change the carbs are not suspect, you likely have an ignition problem. If you have an ignition problem use the Ignition troubleshooting guide to find the source. If you have a carb problem see Carb troubleshooting -------- Luis Rodriguez Model IV 1200 Rotax 912UL Flying Weekly Laurens, SC (34A) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=184850#184850

NSI isn't necessarily gone. It just changed names to MPS, Maxwell Propulsion Systems, but they're not supporting the EA81 or CAP140 any longer, only the bigger block Soobs, like the EJs. Lance is gone and the owner of the company is now running the place. Lance always helped me out with good advice and service, and I never had a problem with him or his product. Not all NSI owners will say the same, but they are actually a very small number compared to the number of engines sold. Mostly what is heard are anecdotal stories from non-owners or the vocal minority. Glad to have you back Howard. That's too bad about Lance. Too bad he couldn't stay as an engineer or designer. I really like the EA-81 and with my two engines, I liked the non turbo version better. Possibly I may be able to find a used -81 with a CAP. I'm planning on starting a project next spring when my finances might be in better shape...Let's see...house first, then kitfox, then food and clothes...that's the order I'm looking for! Howard By the way, what happened around here with gas? In Saudi, it was about 15 cents per liter in the little town I was in.... You should be able to find a good Kitfox for that price. There is also another benefit with experimental aircraft. The maintenance cost are much lower and with a little training anybody can do their own annual. _____ From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Pete Christensen Sent: Monday, May 26, 2008 2:17 PM Subject: Kitfox-List: Fw: [Sport_Aircraft] What would be your choice? ----- Original Message ----- From: almulford@mchsi.com Sent: Monday, May 26, 2008 1:07 PM Subject: Re: [Sport_Aircraft] What would be your choice?
