From: "dave" > On my VW dunebuggy I used to put a 2X6 about 3' long on the tire as a ramp > and drive my car up to break the bead. Would this work? > > Pete > --- Pete, I really doubt that would work. You have to get between the lip of the rim and the bead of the tire and you have to go in about 1/2 inch or so. Your way the tire will likely fold over and the bead will not slide over the bead lock ridge on the rim. A simple tool like I made works well. If you are unsure just take to a ATV shop or make your own. I used Regular auto gas or what ever i bought .- one Gas station , 3 marinas with pump prices up to 1.69 per litre. I flew over sparse territory with nothing but swamps, bush and lakes. The other plane was a beaver ultralight with 582. he ran about 6000 rpm at average of 68 mph and I ran average 80 t0 85 mph . I would throttle between 5200 and 5800 most of the time. My fuel flo meter was dead on showing about 13 to 18 litre / hour fuel burn. Everytime we landed at a marina his fuel consumption was exactly 50% more than mine. First stop my bill was 87$ and his was 133$ --------- GO FIGURE. Show that Kitfox on Aerocets is much cleaner than a Beaver with Full lotus. Plus he takes 50% longer to get off the water. Back to the gas, in Canada we are mandated to have ethanol gas rammed down our throats. BUT - I had no issues with it once again on this trip or anytime. Jay C. ----- Original Message ----- From: Marco Menezes To: kitfox-list@matronics.com Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2008 6:13 PM Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Header tank location Pat, I have an extra header tank, just like the one Lynn describes. I bought it from Skystar about 5 years ago when my original tank developed a slow leak around one of the brass fittings. Before it arrived, I managed to cure the problem and it's been fine ever since. If you need it, it's yours for the cost of shipping. BYT: The "sump" drain in my Mod 2 is tee'd into the bottom hole of the header. The other side of the T goes to the engine. Drain line is 3/8" poly with in-line hardware store brass ball valve, leading to a fitting on the right side belly under back of passenger seat. The belly drain fitting is attached through the fabric to a flush aluminum bracket for reinforcement. Drain fitting is barbed on inside and has NPT threads on outside so that I can attach a removeable, external drain line. Makes it easy to quickly drain fuel into jerry cans after each flight. I also have a superfluous gascolator which I have left in as the last line of defense before fuel gets to engine. My old tank was rectangular all the way, but this new one is designed to be located right behind the seat, and to that end has a slope on the upper forward surface to clear the slope of the seat back. On second thought, maybe I'm imagining those brass bungs being cast in....better score me as not being sure of that feature. I know the one on the side of the tank, like where you'd put an optical low-fuel sender is a just plain threaded hole...plenty of beef, though. From: "WurlyBird" So here is the long and short of it. My wife and I are planning on buying a little plane when we get home from Afghanistan and we have pretty well decided on a Kitfox. Her airplane experience consists of a ride I gave her in a glider and a ride my buddy gave her on a Dragonfly "Ultralight". So I would really like for her to get to fly in a couple different light planes before we make this commitment. Not to mention I would love to try out a KF to make sure it is what I hope it is. We will be home on leave in a little over a month and I would love to find someone who would like to show off their plane for us. Everyone seems to be fanatical about their Kitfoxes, one of the things that drew me to them in the first place and I am sure we will both fall in love with one. If a nice lunch to sit down and talk over helps the decision at all, that is by all means offered. Thanks to anyone who would like to help us out with this.
