I used rivnuts (to accept screws) in a lot of places instead of rivets alone and some are a bear to get the nuts and washers on and off. Often it is easier and much faster to drill out rivets than to take screws out. When drilling out the rivets to be replaced use a letter drill that is a hair smaller than the drill used to make the hole for the rivet to reduce the enlargement of the hole. If it is non structural it won't hurt anything anyhow. The new rivet will expand to tighten in a slightly oversize hole. -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2876#202876 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:43:28 AM PST US From: "Dacha" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Re: Gas talk - Float plane trip Mike, I am having a problem with the fuel leak also. From: "akflyer" I was looking at buying a lil buzzard before I found my Avid. I sent countless emails and left more messages on their answering machine than I did on Airdales, did not get one single return call. I was ready to go buy 3 of them for me and two buddies.. Looks like a nice bird at a great price, but after 7 months of no contact, I forgot about them. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 IVO IFA Full Lotus 1260 95% complete Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2879#202879 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 06:16:34 AM PST US From: "Dave" Subject: Kitfox-List: Denney plane turtledeck window If you look at the pictures of the Denney plane in other posts, you can see that it has a one piece window in an aluminum frame. My 'Fox has a one piece rather thick plexi held on with mostly velcro althoutgh there are four through fasteners. I've posted picTures before. I would like any details anyone can post about making a lighter, thinner one piece window similar to that seen in the Denney aircraft. I am aware of the one piece plastic turtledeck and I am not interested in that option. Although I might be interested in a complete folding one if someone else wishes to upgrade to a plastic one. ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 08:09:29 AM PST US From: "Lowell Fitt" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Re: Gas talk - Float plane trip LeRoy, Years ago, I found a few small leaks near the filler cap on the top ot the tank. With the help of friends, I took the wing off and resloshed the tanks, first by doing a couple of sloshes with a couple of gallons of acetone, then Kreem. I have a lot of confidence in Kreem, though this is sometimes seen as a low grade dimentia by some. I did some test-tube testing with Kreem in all sorts of stuff including denatured alcohol, with no changes in sseveral months. This is tons easier than stripping fabric and removing and replacing the tank. If it doesn't work, you would be out maybe $60 and some fun times with friends. Do a search of the archives on resloshing as a few have done this before. I covered the top and bottom of the tank end of the wing with vinyl sheet and masking tape to protect the finish. Putting together the control column and pivots. I did not do it by the book cause I could not see how coming in from the top would help me to turn the pivot into the mount. What a pain! Below is a picture of how I did it. It's a bit irrelevant though because I seem to have trouble reaming the .250" holes. The bit wobbled through the one on the end of the column and also through the right stick pivot. Sticking bolts through the holes, they go in very loose. So I guess I'll be ordering new parts from Kitfox. Anyone out there have photos of how they did theirs? And John, if you're reading this, just looking for pictures that's all. Need a 1/4" hole? Drill with a 15/64" drill bit, then use a .249" reamer, then check the fit of the bolt. If it doesn't fit use the .250" reamer....but PULL the reamer through the hole, never push it. Lynn Matteson Kitfox IV Speedster Jabiru 2200, 562 hrs...short block assembled, as well as two heads. If you need to hold back pressure with the mount in the top hole, drop it to the next hole down. When you find the spot that requires slight forward pressure for level flight, trim the nose down with the flaps. A well rigged kitfox is a joy to fly. -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2984#202984 ________________________________ Message 16 ____________________________________ Time: 07:56:21 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Control column pivot(Not happy with myself) From: "Tom Jones" > The problem with pulling it through is that it's on the closed end of the mount. The tight space and the powder-coat inside the hole made it impossible for me to pull the reamer through. Jorge, I supplemented the reamer set with the the next two sizes under each size that came with my kitfox tool kit. Many places I had to start with a reamer one or two sizes smaller to ream just the powder coating out of the way. You should be able to slide the reamers in from the open end of the control column and then through the pivot hole on the closed end. Same as you will place the bolt there. I ruined a few parts myself, some more than once. Hopefully your control column can be fixed with a little welding. -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2988#202988 ________________________________ Message 17 ____________________________________ Time: 08:48:26 PM PST US Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Horizontal Stabilizer Setting From: Rexinator I checked my model II and it's set in the top hole, but I don't know how it flys as it's not repaired yet .
