Subject: | Matronics Email List Fund Raiser During November! |
Dear Listers,
Each November I hold a PBS-like fund raiser to support the continued operation
and upgrade of the List services at Matronics. It's through soley through the
Contributions of List members that these Matronics Lists are possible.
You have probably noticed that there are no banner ads or pop-up windows on any of the Matronics Lists or related web sites such as the Forums site ( http://forums.matronics.com ), Wiki site ( http://wiki.matronics.com ), or other related pages such as the List Search Engine ( http://www.matronics.com/search ), List Browse ( http://www.matronics.com/listbrowse ), etc. This is because I believe in a List experience that is completely about the sport we all enjoy - namely Airplanes and not about annoying advertisments.
During the month of November I will be sending out List messages every few days
reminding everyone that the Fund Raiser is underway. I ask for your patience
and understanding during the Fund Raiser and throughout these regular messages.
The Fund Raiser is only financial support mechanism I have to pay all of the
bills associated with running these lists. Your personal Contribution counts.
Once again, this year I've got a terrific line up of free gifts to go along with
the various Contribution levels. Most all of these gifts have been provided
by some of the vary members and vendors that you'll find on Matronics Lists and
have been either donated or provided at substantially discounted rates.
This year, these generous people include Bob Nuckolls of the AeroElectric Connection (http://www.aeroelectric.com/), Andy Gold of the Builder's Bookstore (http://www.buildersbooks.com/), and Jon Croke of HomebuiltHELP (http://www.homebuilthelp.com/).
These are extremely generous guys and I encourage you to visit their respective
web sites. Each one offers a unique and very useful aviation-related product
line. I would like publicly to thank Bob, Andy, and Jon for their generous support
of the Lists again this year!!
You can make your List Contribution using any one of three secure methods this
year including using a credit card, PayPal, or by personal check. All three methods
afford you the opportunity to select one of this year's free gifts with
a qualifying Contribution amount!!
To make your Contribution, please visit the secure site below:
http://www.matronics.com/contribution
I would like to thank everyone in advance for their generous financial AND moral
support over the years. I know it sounds a little cliche, but you guys really
do feel like family.
Thank you for your support!

Subject: | Tail wheel Instruction |
Hi,
I bought a Kitfox a little over a month ago and I need the tail wheel
endorsement be for I can fly it. Does anyone know of an instructor near
the Western New York area that has kitfox time or would come and
instruct in my plane? Is there an instructor some where that I can go
too that has a kitfox?
Thanks, Loel

I picked up an inline-1" inch (other size are available) thermostat housi
ng from a motorcycle / ATV bone yard for $5. You can find them in many conf
igurations so you won't have to run your hose to the tail and back. The Hon
da car thermostat fit into-my old Ninja 1000 motorcycle housing. If a the
rmostats fails it generally fails in the open position. In the summer if yo
ur worried remove the thermostat from the housing. =0A-=0AGeorge=0A=0A=0A

I think the shut off valve from Napa ($20?) is probably # 6601141 5/8" with
-the cable in-line to the hose. Kragen Auto-# 74627 sells for around $1
5. You can-see pictures on their Web sites.=0A=0AGeorge=0A=0A=0A=0A-----

I couldn't find the Napa part # on their website but the one listed on Partsamerica.com
(#74627) is the exact valve I used. Here is a pic of it from their website
and a pic installed in my bird. The supplied 1/2" coolant hose took a
bit of coaxing to get over the 5/8" barbed ends of the valve but with a little
lubricant they will go on.

Subject: | Re: cabin heater Plumbing question |
Randy,
I don't really know how much coolant goes through my heater core...I just know
that my heater puts out a ton of heat. My valve is in the heater circuit not
in the radiator circuit so if it fails open or closed it does not affect the coolant
flow from the engine to radiator or visa-versa. I do have a set of radiator
louvers that are produced by Lowell but have not got them installed yet
as I have not needed them with the H20 temps I have but I suspect in another month
or so they will be necessary. This simply restricts the amount of air that
passes through the radiator and thus allows the pilot to control the water
temp. I posted a pic of my valve installation on the other thread titles "Cabin
Heater".
I looked at installing a thermostat on my coolant and oil but opted not to simply
to reduce the complexity (and chances for failure) of the plumbing system.
I like the idea of the manually controlled louvers much better than the thermostat
for coolant and for oil, my last Fox simply had an adjustable aluminum plate
that reduced the airflow over the oil cooler to keep the temps up in the
winter months. Having said this, I know two guys that run the oil thermostat
on the Rotax and have had 0 problems with them. I have had plenty of problems
with automotive thermostats.
