They do help out in the temperature department but will not totally control it. I have added a thin cardboard piece behind my oil cooler shutters to aid in warmer oil temps for the winter. I did not want to put on that ugly tape again. The cardboard is not visible from the outside until you open the shutters. In the case of the water radiator I had to add about a 6 inch piece of tape to the front. The closed and open position on the shutters only appear to make about a 10-12 degree difference in temperatures. (both coolers) I fly with them closed most of the time. One other thing, the water radiator shutters go on the back of the radiator and when they are fully closed you will have a slight buffeting in the airframe. This is no big deal but when you know every sound your airplane makes it was a little startling at first. I suppose this buffet is do to the air "jamming " up at the radiator inlet and unable to flow through. The units are nicely made and I am glad I have them. The oil thermostat would probably be the best way to go but like you, I didn't want any more hoses that might leak and add to the plumbing jungle in there! On my airplane, the 914 produces a bit more heat than the 912 due to the turbo and the guys in Idaho flying the 914 on the 7 say they don't need to do anything in winter to maintain acceptable temps. However, they do drop a bit during cold weather flying...thus the louvers are expected to do the trick nicely. I'll keep the list posted on my findings. -------- Darin Hawkes Series 7 (Phase 1 - Flight Testing) 914 Turbo Kaysville, Utah Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=211770#211770 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 10:41:49 AM PST US From: "eric" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Any Kitfoxers in Tulsa?
