I have radio=2C transponder=2C strobes=2C nav lights=2C in strument post lights=2C gps=2C turn and bank=2C engine instrument gages=2C ANR headset power supply and intercom. That 18 amps is at high rpms=2C and 80% of that is only 14.4 amps. I should add it all up so that I know exac tly how much each uses=2C but my experience is that flying at night uses po wer out of the battery. After landing the engine has had to be jumped to g et it to start because the descent used enough power to drain down the batt ery. There are no plug in lamps for the Whelen position lights. Whelen sa ys they cannot do that because the unit has to be certified as a complete u nit. To get the correct spread of light at the right intensity requires de sign from a clean sheet of paper anyway. Installing automotive lamps gives light that is not optimized for the lens. If I fly with my Strobes and Nav lights my battery discharges during f light. I measured the amp draw and the Whelen tip nav lights draw upwards of 7 amps by themselves. The strobe is about 1.5 amps. When I put LED lam ps in the nav lights they draw less about 4/10ths of an amp. The LED's tha t I found to fit do not put out but about 1/3 of the light=2C but now I can fly with them on. I used to switch between the nav and strobes during fli ght so that I did not use them both at once. You are wise to beware about the amp draw. If you have the Whelen position lights that have 4 lamps the y will really draw down your battery in a hurry. One of you said you needed more heat, some one said you get plenty. Here's my theory. Tell me if I am right or not. I want to install my supply to the heater in the hose as close to the engine as possible after the coolant exits the engine at the head. Coolant will be hottest there. I want to return coolant from heater to system as close to pump as possible. This would mean path of least resistance would route as much hot coolant as 5/8" heater hose could handle and remainder would continue thru radiator. And, shut off valve in heater hose only would not restrict 1" radiator routing should it fail, as you pointed out Darin. It would also help to use Y's instead of tee's.
