From: "Tom Jones" Here are a couple articles that explain the Arctic Sparrow needle adjustments very well. I use mine to adjust the needle richer in winter and leaner in summer. I can tell when its time to do so by an increase in EGTs (too lean) or a miss in the engine (too rich) below 5800 rpm. The sparrow needle adjustment affects the mid range circuit. You should be able to lean out your idle circuit by turning the idle air screws on the carbs counter clockwise. You cannot just change the needles as they have been modified and the system and parts seem to have disappeared from the sources. Does anyone know a current source? http://www.ultralightnews.com/enginetroublshooting/arcticsparrow.htm http://www.ultralightnews.com/enginetroublshooting/arcticsparrow2.htm After you read these articles you should have your answer. -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=217314#217314 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:35:02 AM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: 912 Starter Wanted From: "ricklach" I am looking for a DEAD/JUNK starter for a Rotax 912/914 engine. I've thought of doing some needle mods to get more; theoretically you should be able to dump all float pressure and drop fuel flow to zero. >Are you disparaging the use of this kind of setup? Is it a good one or not? Heck no, I love it. I'll take any EGT I can get and have found it to be very useful over the past 2+ years. Yes, either the MTA at his ISP or his local processing flagged the mail as spam by adding "[!! SPAM]" in the subject line. Something in the e-mail triggered his Bayesian filter to assume it was spam so it could be then sent to his spam folder. -- Paul A. This is also why this reply to the original post has been added to the list as a separate thread instead being attached to the original thread. Where do you keep your plane? Paul, the picture in my first post is looking west from just west of the Yakima River near the west interchange on I90. The paved road in the lower right hand corner of that picture is the South Thorp Highway. I keep my Kitfox at home and trailer it to the Ellensburg Airport to fly. I should get to be friends with some of the hay ranchers and maybe use their fields to take off and land. There is a 160 acres of Timothy across the road from my house. Here's a picture of the Yakima River and one of an old ranch house and barn up river a little. I like being able to get a "Bird's eye view of things". A kitfox is really good for this type of flying. -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=217428#217428 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/yakima_river_channels_nov2008_210.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/old_ranch_closeup_139.jpg ________________________________ Message 12 ____________________________________ Time: 11:16:16 PM PST US Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: From: "JetPilot" There is no need to remove yourself from the list, just change your settings for web based only.
