Subject: | How to post pictures on Matronics Photoshare or Forum |
Step one - option for posting to Photoshare via e-mail.
Open a new browser tab (Ctl-T) in Chrome, Firefox or a newer Internet Explorer
or a new browser window, if Tabbed Windows are not an option for you, and pasting
in this link. You can do that by right clicking this link too:
http://www.matronics.com/photoshare/kitfox-list.html
If you forget this step, no problem. There is a link in each and every e-mail sent
from Matronics mail lists and for the Kitfox List it is:
http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Kitfox-List
Which has the photoshare link above listed near the bottom of the page.
Here you will see instructions at the top of the page for e-mailing photos for
posting. But this requires manual intervention by Matt and of course still requires
one to e-mail photos. So we won't do that. Instead scroll down to the bottom
and look at all the pictures posted by mail list category. Then instead,
start the process at Step two.
Step two - option for posting via the Kitfox Forum.
The Forum is a companion to all mail lists on Matronics. You can browse all of
the list postings here, even if you are not signed up for a single one. In order
to post messages and pictures you must be first registered. You have to do
that only once but you must register even if you're already on the KF Mail List.
The direct link to the KF List is:
http://forums.matronics.com/viewforum.php?f=8
But you can always find that link by clicking the forum link in every e-mail you
get from the KF List. You'll notice in an e-mail from the KF List there is a
link to the forums:
http://forums.matronics.com
Select the KF List when you're there or use the link above to go directly to the
KF Forum.
If you're not yet registered, click the register icon in the upper right corner
of the screen. Fill out the form.
Here's an important tip when registering:
Use your real name or the name you want people to call you in the box for "Username".
This *DOES NOT* have to be any part of your e-mail address. It will appear
on the Forum in author column exactly as you type it here. So make it look
good. Many people error when they fill this in as you can see by the names in
the Author list. If your name is "Jane Doe" then type that in this blank. If
you have a well known nickname such as 'Deke', you might use that. But don't put
something meaningless like a24056 which might be part of your e-mail address
and has no real association with you personally.
After putting in your name, e-mail address, password and the security stuff, continue
filling out everything. If you have an instant messenger handle, put that
in. If you want your e-mails and postings signed, put up to 250 characters
there too. Do a nice job. You can come back later and make changes (by clicking
the profile icon) but obviously if you pick a screwball Username, you'll have
to delete it and start over. So the important tip when registering is to select
a good Username right off.
Whew, this is supposed to be simple and from here on out it really is.
Step 3 - Login
If you're not already here, go to the login page for the Kitfox Forum.
http://forums.matronics.com/viewforum.php?f=8
Now you'll see a couple of 'sticky' postings at the top of the list. They're put
there by the administrator and will always be in that position. Read them sometime.
You can read any thread (called topics here). A topic is started with
the first posting from the subject line of the e-mail. If it is a response and
has "Re:" in the subject it is counted as just that, a response. That's why it
is important to update the subject line of your postings to reflect the content.
If you start the topic in the forum as I am doing here then, you simply click
the "New Topic" icon just above the top of the list of topics.
Now you compose your posting here. You can optionally add, delete or change photos
by clicking the "Add an Attachment" in the Attachment Posting Control Panel.
You can compose your message in HTML and there are tools and smileys for doing
so. I recommend that you *NOT* post in HTML unless you really have a specific
purpose. so unselect that box.
In the text of your e-mail be sure to mention that you've posted pictures.
I'm posting a picture of me taken at the Concord California Airport of me in front
of my Cherokee 160 on my first cross country trip after getting an Instrument
Rating I believe in 1975. So, you'll have to leave it up to your imagination
what I must look like nearly 34 years later.
The posted photo is a little over 2 MB in size and it take about 4 seconds after
I clicked the "Add Attachment" button for it to transfer to Matronics. You can
repeat this process for multiple photos.
I have also selected the poll option to see if this was helpful to anyone.

I do use a Mac. It's an eMac that I bought in about 2001 or 2002. I
got Photoshop Elements for it about a year later.
Did the pictures help you figure out the mounting of the skis? I can
take more pics if you need them...in fact, I'll bet I could pull the
large cotter pin, remove the nut and slide the ski off the stub axle
without even undoing the cables, or jacking up the plane. In fact,
after the plane was initially jacked up to install the stub axles, I
did not have to move the plane in any way to install the skis. This
is the only way to fly, if you'll pardon the expression, around here
where the snow comes and goes so frequently. I just can't get over
how easily these skis install, and in fact if I were to substitute
the present cotter pins for those safety pins, it'd cut the install/
remove time by a couple of minutes....hey, now there's a topic for a
U-tube video...nah, I guess not.
Let me know if you want more pics, Noel.

Well you probably will prefer to use the Forum once you get the hang of it. Your
messages will always be there so you don't have to clutter up your computer
getting messages e-mailed to you. Of course you have that option if you want it.
I posted the instructions. In brief format they are:
1) register (once only good to post in any Forum too)
2) login (not required just to read messages)
3) post a new topic or reply to an existing one. Click "add an attachment" then
browse for it on your own computer, fill in the descriptive information then
click "add attachment". You can then preview your post before submitting it just
to make sure it looks right.
People that want a very easy and free program to resize photos, make albums, post
web presentations of them and write text on the photo try Google's Picasa.
It also will find and make viewing all the photos on your 'confuser' easy.
It is available for Windows XP and Vista as well as for Mac OS X and Linux
Here's a YouTube video showing off Picasa. You're bound to like this program. The
price can't be beat (free).

Dear friends,
I have a Classic IV and I wonder if there is any ICAO code for
that model. Controlers in some airports have requested me that by radio,
as they don=C2=B4t have any idea how an "Experimental Kitfox" looks, and
specialy how fast it is, how long it lands, etc.
I could find in an old and huge list only the one for Vixen, it
is VIX.
Any idea?

Lynn, great job on the skis! I really do like the way you designed them and
they appear to be plenty strong, yet light, for your airplane. You're a

Thanks, Deke...they weigh just about 15 pounds each...about 1-2 lbs
heavier than the old ones. I'd rather have a few extra lbs aboard
than a broken ski. By "designed" I think you mean "borrowed ideas"
but I'll accept designed. : )

Pat,
We tend to beat dead horses on these subjects. I just wanted to point out
some of the concerns of mixing electrical and structural in our building.
What works fine and lasts a long time is what most people go for. But, the
gotcha's are still there lurking all along. Knowing about and watching for loose
connections and corroded bolts etc., are what is needed here. Or you can
choose to make all electrical connections in a better, more reliable way.

John, This is why I asked the question to start with. But, being a "purest"
is sometimes a study in futility. If you use the airframe for ground you have
to mix dissimilar metals at connections. I'd rather have a ground lead back
to battery 100% of the time, but the boys that commented that there is
nothing wrong with using the engine mount bolt for getting ground through the
firewall are knowledgeable and numerous enough to have convinced me. But, I
definitely appreciate your response. I am not an electrical engineer and was more
of a perfectionist earlier in life. Now I just want to get the job done safely.

Noel,
My point was more over concern for the electrical quality of the connection
.
Long before there is a corrosion structural concern for the engine mount's
bolt. The electrical connection will electrically fail due to corrosion at
the dissimilar metals joint. When you factor in the constant motion of the
se
steel parts pulling on one another with a steel bolt holding them together,
the addition of an electrical current passing through this junction is a
prescription for everything to be watched closely over time. Or you can mo
stly
avoid the whole thing by making your electrical connections separately with
all
compatible electrical materials.

I think John is right on this one. It makes sense that any bolt carrying
current could also easily corrode thereby weakening it. A separate bolt to

much structural load and can be easily replaced if it starts to corrode.

Pulling the ski in enough to see the stub axle and the mount would be great.

I suspect that it isn't too often that what we design doesn't have some part
of it borrowed. Even the folding wings on our airplanes was borrowed from
the 1930s, the flaperons from the Germans, etc. It's the ongoing
improvement and innovation that counts.

Ah yes, the Stuka Ju87, as I recall....got an unfinished model
hanging in my workshop. I loved that plane because it was so damn
ugly. And not that I liked what Hitler was doing, but his idea (at
least he got credit for it) of the landing gear-mounted siren to
psych the enemy was brilliant for awhile, then they got used to it
and paid it no attention...but we digress...or I do. : )

Len - That's a good looking and fun setup on the Avid. Where were you and what
are the
fish? Had you been hunting too? Where _do_ you put that rifle? Must take some skill
to
get all that gear packed.

lol, you don't get out too much do ya lol... those are ducks... the 870's are strapped
to the jury strut.
That was my brothers KF II. The area is just across cook inlet from Kenai, the
flats south of the Kustatan river.
There was not a baggage area in his KF II so all the gear goes in dry bags strapped
to the top of the float. You can easily put 100 pounds on each float. I
have had 4 5 gallon jugs strapped to the top of the right float and my gear bag
on the left one. Not for the faint of heart, but in that case it got the job
done.
My Avid has a baggage area from the back of the seat to darn near the front of
the vertical stab. All controls are covered so nothing can get tangled in the
mixers. The previous owner had put the baggage area in but you had to pull some
of it out to fold the wings so the control rods could swing in. I slotted
it a little but have yet to fold the wings out since I put it all in so it is
not finished. I will clean it up and re-make some of the floor plates when I
get home next week so it is a clean install.
