Subject: | Re: Aborted Virginia Fly-in trip |
Good thing I didn't get there, as I'd have to keep my plane covered
up....John's plane would have had me throwing rocks at mine. Same
thing as when John May shows up at fly-ins around here....makes me
wish I'd have stayed at home. : )
Another thing I noticed after my 3.4 hours at VERY high altitude the
other day....hardly a bug splatter on the prop. Then I flew around
locally for about a half hour or so Saturday, and the thing is
covered with bug juices. And speaking of props, Lonnie Prince of
Prince Props flew into our little coffee and doughnut gathering on
Saturday morning with his smoke-equipped Navion. He was following a
couple of slow high-wingers, and said that he had to sit on a pillow
to be able to see over the cowl......he had the thing slowed down so
much to match their speed that the plane was in a pretty nose-high
attitude.

your performance will suffer greatly with the 3.47. I have been running 2.62:1
with IVO IFA 72" I went to the 3:1 at the suggestion of a guy who stated the
performance was much better.. I have tried 3 different props and found that I
lost performance all the way around. Longer TO run, 5 mph less cruise, and about
300 FPM less on climb. Oh as an added bonus, the fuel burn went up a touch
over 1 gph to cruise at the same speed. I am switching back to the 2.62:1
next time home.

66" will be good for 2,62:1
71" ---------------- 3,00:1
77" ---------------- 3,47:1
This with a Warp 3 blade or other normal 2 blade,
Problem with the high ratio is that angle become very large and a big part
of prop will be stalled at take off/climb

the price will be to the highest offer...I not want to sit on this forever
so I guess I am saying it doesn't matter...it just has to go...no reserve.
..will wait about a week or so and then post the results...engine and prop
may be sold separate from the kit
thanks Mic

I put this on the "other forum" just want a tool to put the KF community together.
I started a Google map that shows our home bases. You can log into Google Maps
with your personal Google/Gmail acount and add your location placemark if you
want to.
If you don't have a Google account you'll need one or you won't be able to edit
and add your placemark or you can use this one
email: "kitfoxmap@gmail.com"
pass: flyingfun
Go to the Kitfox Map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=us&ie=UTF8&view=map&msa=0&msid=108742457753136179216.00046ae83ce086d711d37&ll=39.708309,-76.505356&spn=26.938292,43.242188&z=3)
1) Navigate the map to your location. Zoom in fairly tight.
2) Click the EDIT button that appears just below the map title in the left hand
column
3) Set your place mark by first clicking the blue Placemark tool from the toolbar
on the map. Click once on your location to add your pin. A little info box
will pop up. Add your screenname to the title and any additional information you
feel comfortable sharing to the description box.
4) Click SAVE

Subject: | Re: 912S External Alternator Question |
Chris,
I am definitely not an expert on alternators, but it is my understanding
that if you simply switch the internal "alternator" turned off without some
load across the output leads of the regulator, you can fry the regulator.
If it is swithched off between the coils and the regulator - no problem.
Others with more understanding will no doubt chime in, but a true alternator
needs voltage from the battery to energise the field winding, otherwise all
you have is a bunch of wires spinning.

I don't know how much respect I'm due but I'll take all I can get.
I'm sorry and mean no offense to no one. My name is Nick Weiskopf
I'm 33 live in north eastern Maryland I've owned a kitfox for a little more than
a year now. I did this as a service to the Kitfox community to those who want
to participate. As I stated in the post please feel free to locate your home
base not your house unless you want to. Only add comments that you a comfortable
with, this is the Internet. I thought this would be a good tool for people
on cross country to connect with other Kitfoxer's. If you are not comfortable
please by all means don't participate.

Wow What a great idea. I hope all of you sign up like I did then when there is
a flyin (Flyins dot com) all of us in that area can hope to attend and make a
mass showing of our Kitfox's. I really like to fly mine traveling to all the
little airports in the area.

Subject: | Re: 912S External Alternator Question |
Thanks for the advice Lowell. I'll rearrange things to send the internal
amp power to the switch first then to the regulator. I think you're right
about the alternator needing voltage the battery. I'll check with Lockwood
tomorrow and

Chris,
I am definitely not an expert on alternators, but it is my understanding
that if you simply switch the internal "alternator" turned off without
some
load across the output leads of the regulator, you can fry the regulator.
If it is swithched off between the coils and the regulator - no problem.
Others with more understanding will no doubt chime in, but a true
alternator
needs voltage from the battery to energise the field winding, otherwise
all
you have is a bunch of wires spinning.
