Is there anybody out there with a model 5 that is not covered that could
take some pics of the area where the gear connects and the front seat
supports(where the bungees would connect. I am going to strengthen my
classic 4 in these areas after I got some bent tubes and would like to see
what changes were made to the model 5.

Kirk,
I realize this is not a specific response to your question, but I know of
several guys that eliminated the limit cables after Dr. Downhill bent his
bungee bulkhead in a hard landing. I guess the limit cables are to protect
the prop from a ground strike, but there have been more reports of bulkhead
failures than prop strikes.
Maybe lengthing the cables a bit might be prudent if they are left on.

Thats bad advice
The cables are to keep the prop and "WING" from hitting
the ground. Even with broken bungees and bent gear
you can still fly home on the safety cable.
What should be eliminated is the HARD LANDINGS if possible.

Bulkhead damage OR a wing and a prop(and maybe engine crank)?? I think I
might leave them on and practice landings. OMO Larry

Right now the plan is to change to the grove gear. We have been kicking the
idea around for a while now anyway as my Step father and co-owner of the
plane is just now learning how to fly so there are bound to be some more
hard landings. I have seen some pics of model 5's with out cover and
noticed a gusset on the side where the gear connects to the plane. I would
like to add this to the plane and some good pictures showing location would
be great. I got 1 from Kitfox but it is to close to really tell what tubes
it is covering. Also if anybody has any pictures for a model4 with the
grove gear showing where it mounts those would also be helpful.
If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I have a Mdl. III with the Grove gear, wheels and brakes. Much more stable
than the old gear and very forgiving. I have put about 70 hours on it and
would not go back. If I remember right, it is about six inches wider.
See attached picture. I think that the four is very similar.

Kirk-
Here are pictures of my IV with Grove gear. As you can see, the Grove
gear uses the front two float brackets on each side, to mount the
gear. I kept the picture size small to avoid a lengthy download.
This shot was taken during the temporary assembly stage, and does not
show that actual hardware that I used.
