Warren,
Different GPS use different voltages. So will regulate voltage themselves. MY
Garmin 196 uses 4 AA batteries = 6V . but will take power 10 to 40 V .
If you getting noise through your power you got other issues.
Try moving a handheld radio near your GPS with both turned out through differnt
freq. You will find some RFI/ EMI causes some noise.

of the 12v plane power. I had no noise. I then unhooked the batteries and
plugged back into the plane and still no noise. I guess I have a intermitten
problem. My gps does not have a bluetooth. I checked the voltage with the gps
it says 9.6 my volt meeter says 12.9 the volt meeter on the dash says almost 14.
I have noticed that when I run my stobes my engine temp jumps up about 20 degrees
(indicated not actual). I have a grey head 582. with a key west rectifier.
How much joltage should I have. I will will take my cowl off this week and
check the ground connection as suggested.

Lowell the last batch i got from ACS i think . Was Mil spec cord just about 1
to 1.50 $ a foot . White with green and blue or red lines in it.
I use 6 wraps and taks about 5 mins to install both sides.
Works great. Never had one come loose yet. IF i do I have 1/8 " safety cables
attached. :)
Btw I got a source to NANKANG N800 SLICK 2 PLY - 21X12-8 Tires
around 40 $ each.

Leni, I am curious to how you got performance loss here.
What speeds did you have prior too and now ? 3 t o 1 should give you better
take off and climb. The Ivo Med 72" 2 blade i find 6400 to 6500 static works
well.
I have a set of 2.62 gears here , maybe I should try again but It hard for me to
swap out from 3 to 1 that run ultra smooth with awesome performance.

90 to 92 mph 5800 to 6000 rpm . fuel flow 18 litres per hour Summer, 20 litres
a hour in winter

Bobs plane and tried it. Same results. Slower and higher fuel burn. I have
not put the fairings on the struts yet, but I flew all winter without them. I
did note that it is not as smooth with the 3:1 either, you feel every impulse.
Going back to 2:62 today and will post numbers later.

Warren,
Some GPS receivers have the capability of reading out their own power
supply voltage. It sounds like yours has 6 dry cell batteries that will total
a nominal 9 volts, 9.6 volts is a good reading with all batteries up to
snuff. On external (ship's) power your GPS may be able to accept a wide range
of voltage input, say from 6 to 40 volts. Check your owner's manual.
I am thinking that you may simply have a weak (soft) ship's battery. Load
test your battery or replace it if it is more than two years old. Or
substitute a known good battery for test purposes. If your battery is 100%
known to be in good shape, take a look at the voltage readings I suggested in
an earlier post. Your ship's power bus or your grounding is possibly not
good enough to handle the loads you are requiring from it.
Look for good, tight, corrosion free, connections made with the correct
size wire, etc.
Put a digital volt meter across your avionics bus to ground and watch the
voltage as you turn on and off all of your panel items. This voltage
reading must remain constant and above 12 volts under all loads. If it does
not, you don't have enough battery capacity or enough good conductor capacity
to your panel's equipment.

Mine is IFA so I tweek for 6500-6700 RPM on take off then tweek as needed to run
the EGT's at 1100 for cruise.
2.62 I was cruising 85 at 5800. Now 5800 gives me about 72-74 MPH. At take off
2.62 I was burning 6.5 GPH now take off is 7.6 GPH. I could economy cruise
at 5600 RPM for 70-72 MPH and burn 4.4-4.6 GPH, now a 5600 cruise gives me about
65 mph and 5.3 GPH.

OK My flow meter is in litres so I converted fro you.
I got 3 to 1 numbers only and US gallons
all flights s @ 2000 ASL or less
I run 1150 - 1200 EGT on average in cruise
My prop is still at winter setting ( a bit finer than normal , but adequate right
now )
Also I run a tuned pipe which gives me more HP and better burn that the stock Rotax
pipe which will run a bit rich. Kitfox Exhasut is chopped as well costing
a few more HP which I have gained back plus some. A stock 582 Kitfox is likely
about 58 HP rather than the 64 with a totally stock pipe that is not cut
to fit cowl. Your Avid might be different again -- who knows .
6000 rpm = 4.9 to 5 gal / hour 88 mph with 21 inch wheels.
5800 rpm = 4.5 to 4.7 gal / hour 86 mph
WOT 6400 climb out 30.1 litres hour = 7.93 gal hour
Gotta remember I am flying a Kitfox IV and you have a Avid uncambered wing so
we not apples to apples here.
