I tell you Lock Haven was much nicer than Shrevesport. I went to both yesterday.
There were 4 kitfoxes at Lock Haven and 3 at Shrevesport. Shrevesport was
an absolute zoo people taking off and landing in different directions and about
25% were using the radio while the other 75% (mostly ultralight traffic)were
not. Add to this powered parachutes taking off accross the runways while your
on short final. And just to make it a little more intersting the occasional
high speed RV pass. The place looked like an ultralight hornet nest.

Lexan is a polycarbonate and you can cut it with almost anything. Thin
can be cut with snips and thicker with any fine tooth saw( band saw,
hand jig saw, circular saw, twist drills ,die grinder, whatever) Don't
try this with an acrylic.

There are two ways to go in terms of silencing the noise if your radio is
one affected. The first is a large capacitor wired between the battery
positive (or anywhere on that red wire will do) to ground which will help to
smooth out the ripple caused when the voltage spikes from the alternator are
shunted to ground. It must be at least 2200 MFD and 25 volts rated, most
dealers should be able to help you. The other is a noise filter in the line
to the 12 feed and ground for the radio. Mine came from Radio Shack. A
larger battery of at least 16AH will also work as a reasonable filter but
the capacitor is much lighter.
Please keep in mind that if you are using a Rotax/Tympanium single phase
rectifier-regulator you should have at least 1 amp of load to allow it to
regulate properly and it should not be disconnected while the engine is
running.

Subject: | mismatched egt's |
Hi folks...I've been lurking for some time and finally need to chime in with a
question.
My Model II Kitfox is almost 20 years old now and I've only put 150 hours on it.
I let it sit idle for 4 years without running the 582 Rotax and decided to
resurrect it this summer. Did a top overhaul and inspected the crank (didn't
split the case), buttoned it up with new gaskets after decarbonizing everything
and it runs fine. When I had the cylinders off, everything looked spotless.
Good needle bearings on the con rods, etc. Cylinders don't even look broken
in with new looking crosshatching on the walls.
Problem is this. Carbs won't match no matter what I do. Front cylinder runs hotter
all the time. I've adjusted the jet needle, put in larger main jet (.175),
matched the slides, etc and the fron always runs 100 to 150 deg hotter. Plugs
show it too. The front ones are obviously leaner with only slight browning
of the insulator.
So the question is, if my crank seals are failing, wouldn't that lean BOTH the
carbs out or are these symptoms something else?

No, the crankcase is sealed between the cylinders. A leak can affect just one
cylinder.
Here's a link to the CPS Rotax maintenance articles. Scroll down to number 59,
"Leak testing".
For what its worth, gage errors can cause the temps to read different. Although
100 to 150 degrees is quite a bit.

Don't think a capacitor will cure your problem. Might be a slight band aid but
your battery will act as a capacitor.
Just started since the charging system got cured?
Could be a plentitude of things. Fix the little things first before you start
adding band aid fixes that might not solve the problem at all.
Noise comes from somewhere, could be a power wire running next to something it
should not be.

Larry covered most things for cutting lexan.
On straight edges i sue a hand plane to clean up the edges and use sand paper or
emery cloth on on edges - rounded and straight take out and rough spots that
can allow a crack or break to start from . I use grits from 80 up to 320 or
higher.
OH and it you using rivets drill the hole a bit bigger before you rivet ann use
alum rivets. Only place you need them is along the aft edge.
Rest can use small screws into the rib and an3 on windshield posts.
