What was the radiator meant for? I tried shopping for a slightly larger

What Rpm are you getting static and wide open in levle flight ? MAybe you are
too course and lugging engine. I see some run hotter than others like this. Mine
runs 170 to 180 with EGT at 1150 to 1200 .
Any rad shop can make you a larger rad. Take old one in and ask what to do. Ours
are about 80 sq. inches now 4 x 20" - any adequate although barely at times.
You can try lowering rad about 1 inch or so. Use 90% water and 10 % dexcool.
What is your RPM and EGTs ? Re jetting most likely not needed. If anything ,
just adjust the stock needles by moving the clip. Each notch is about 10 to
15% change in fuel flow.
Rad scoops I have one on - not sure if there is again to be had or not. Jury still
out but I did cowl mods and reduced temps in conjuction with the scoop.
I sell Rad scoops as well.

Dave, I saw your cowl mods and I like them. That may be a project for this winter.
I lowered the radiator 1" after I talked to you and it seems to be helping
but I still can't control temps enough for an extended taxi after the engine
is warm. I am running about 25% Dex and distilled water. I have not done a
static test and a straight and level WOT test since winter/spring but it was
good then, 6250ish static, 6400 in flight if I remember correctly.
My buddy who towed hang gliders with a 582 said they just used bigger radiators
so I though something 20" x 5" or similar might add adequate cooling. Still
on the hunt for an answer.

Hi all,
I am seriously considering buying John McBean's under-belly storage pod for
my Model II. Does anyone actually have/use one? Any pointers here? I have
already tried any and all methods of storing things internally but the Model
II does not have the room and I want to carry a lovely lady and some camping
gear to fly-ins, so could we please stick to the subject of that storage
pod.

I tell you Lock Haven was much nicer than Shrevesport. I went to both
yesterday. There were 4 kitfoxes at Lock Haven and 3 at Shrevesport.
Shrevesport was an absolute zoo people taking off and landing in different
directions and about 25% were using the radio while the other 75% (mostly
ultralight traffic)were not. Add to this powered parachutes taking off
accross the runways while your on short final. And just to make it a little
more intersting the occasional high speed RV pass. The place looked like an
ultralight hornet nest.

This is a little off topic. What are you doing this weekend Bob. There is
a fathers day fly-in at Shrevesport (62PA) this weekend. It's only 23nm
from 8n7 there will be at least two Kitfoxes and maybe a couple of Avids.
Father's Day 2009 - at Shreveport North. Friday features the legendary
Prime Rib buffet while Saturday is highlighted by the opening ceremonies
including the newly introduced "Parade of Sports Cars" featuring an original
Stanley Steamer, a Model T Ford and a Ford Model A, plus the members of the
Pennsylvania Triumph Club. This is followed by pilot games and competitions
and the kids favorite "A Bear from the Air". The Saturday Picnic starts
around 4:00 PM and Bingo is at 6:00. The pool, the volley ball courts and
the horseshoe pits are open all weekend and food is available throughout at
the Cross Winds Cafe. There are free movies and popcorn on the flightline
on Friday and Saturday evenings after sundown. As they say down south -
"Ya' all come!"
Here is a link to their website http://www.footlightranch.com/
Anyway I'll be there on Sat and would like to meet you.

Bob,

I have one on my model 2, purchased from someone here on the list about 4 y
ears ago. Had to fabricate the mounting brackets, since they were not avail
able then, but-it was no big deal. Since I put the pod on, it hardly ever
comes off. Don't know how I'd have made the trips to OSH without it. It ho
lds gear bag, tent, sleeping bag, tarp, camp chair and alot of other crap t
hat together would not fit in the passenger's seat. There is no down-side t
hat I have discovered.

I have one on my Model IV and wouldn't be without it on trips. =C2-It do
esn't seem to affect my speed at all. I can sure clean up the cockpit by
putting a lot of stuff in it. I have had towers ask me if it was a ballis
tic, and what do you tell them! =C2-Not a good thing to joke about (but
I do anyway!).
=C2-Mine, loaded with my camping gear, only weighs 26 pounds and fits in
the CG range really well.
Go for it!!

Last flight it was about 85 F and I kept it down to 165-170 for taxi and saw about
185 on climb out, twice. Low altitude cruise saw about 175-180 and at 5000'
it was about 60 F and water was 160-165 at cruise. My next landing required
me to back taxi a few hundred feet and when I got to the end of the runway I
was holding 180 so I canceled the flight.
This is with the radiator lowered an inch and running about 25% Dex-cool
