Here is a finished one with tape on it . I was out of heat shrink at that time. I cant get pics right now as I am 900 miles away from the floats. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry aka SNAKE Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 IVO IFA Full Lotus 1450 #1 snake oil salesman since 1-22-2009 hander outer of humorless darwin awards Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=250353#250353 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 02:01:30 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Full Lotus wheels From: "wingman" Ok thanks for answering and forgive me for asking but could you elaborate a bit more. I have already built a setup for the main wheels that is strong and good. But I am not quite sure if the rear end of the floats is strong enough to support tail wheels without bending the tubes. Just want to pass this onto you 912 and 912S drivers. I was flying with a friend and after take off at an away airport, we were at about 400 ft and my 912S developed a little miss. Pulling the power back a bit stopped it, but when I went back to full power, there it was again. We went back down but couldn't duplicate it on the ground. Took off and again and at about 400 ft there it was again. We left it at that airport for a few days rather than fly home over the mountains. A few days later, I replaced the plugs - It had been 220 hours any way - and they all looked good. I did notice that the cap on the bottom plug on the #2 cylinder was loose. I was hoping that that was it. A test flight showed no problem, so I flew it home. A couple of weeks later, I was taking a friend up, and at about 400 ft above the ground there it was again. A real careful check showed the cap on the bottom plug on the #2 cylinder was real loose and the top cap, while not a loose as the bottom one, was looser than all the others. I decided two new caps were in needed. They are like $55 each from Lockwood. Wow! The picture is the old bottom cap with the rubber insulation cut off. It has a lot of wear making the hole elliptical. I am hoping I have the problem solved. But have some questions: Why the #2 cylinder? Why both caps on this cylinder? Has anyone else observed this problem? Why would the cap wear like this? Why are the spark plug caps for the 912S so expensive? The plugs for the 582 are more reasonable at a few bucks each. ??? Is there something weird with my installation that causes the vibration problem at that cylinder? I am sure you could use heavier tubes and get away with it, but I would not be real hip on it. Make sure you grease every landing or be ready for a good ride. The setup I saw and took off my brothers KF II ( he bought them from a guy that had them on a III and put them on his II), I would have only used for beaching gear (land in the water, taxi to shore, drop the gear and pull up on the beach) I would not have tried landing with wheels down on hard surface, maybe, maybe, a nice grass runway so when things went south you could just slide in on the grass without much damage to the plane. I know a guy years ago that had a mono float on his koala and he had pure trouble with the setup. you may have something better now, but the original rigging and tailwheel from full lotus left much to be desired. The floats and amphibian setup were designed for ultralights that were 250# and landed/took off at 15-20 MPH. Guys have since been stuffing them on larger faster planes and not all results were desirable. You may have a better system. Post up pics of yours and I can tell you if it is the same as the one I dealt with. -------- DO NOT ARCHIVE Leonard Perry aka SNAKE Soldotna AK Avid "C" / Mk IV 582 IVO IFA Full Lotus 1450 #1 snake oil salesman since 1-22-2009 hander outer of humorless darwin awards Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=250366#250366 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message kitfox-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Kitfox-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/kitfox-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/kitfox-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
