Mark Time: 04:25:40 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: 582 stuck - Udpdate II From: Cecil Stokesberry I disassembled the engine but did not split the case. Don't have the very expensive tools to do so. I cleaned all I could get to using carb cleaner and it did a very good job removing the gunk. Except for the stuck bottom ring - that required soaking for 2 days. I was very careful not to let the carb cleaner stay very long in the crankcase so as not to swell up the o-rings. The gunk in the crankcase dissolved very quickly. I cleaned out the card cleaner using WD40 I didn't want to use water due to the rust possibility. The pistons in the carbs were stuck so solid that I had to use force to remove them. The carbs cleaned up like new in carb cleaner. Every thing I inspected was normal with no wear. Oil in RV and gear box was full and very clean. All on/off valves and quick drains were stuck also. The tanks look clean and no evidence of the kreem pealing. Which makes me think that the gas was the culprit. As many of you thought also. I reassembled the engine and started it today. Started with no problem and ran smoothly. Egt's seemed normal but water temp gage is not working. Oh well.....but I am still happy to have it running again - now back to taxi testing and getting ready for first flight. Thank you all for your helpful comments - what a great group to be a part of. Mine have no Kreem coating and I must just be lucky to not have leaks ? After seeing those flakes of Kreem above, I think I would have to see a tank fall apart before I put that stuff in my tanks. I am looking at adding tanks to 2 Kitfoxs both Model 2 s with no wing tanks. Wingtanks.com plastic tanks seem to fit the bill. Has anyone used these ? That would solve a lot of problems. There has been little in the way of news that I've seen. > --- What problems have you seen ? -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada http://www.cfisher.com/ Awesome *New Forum * http://rotaxaircraft.com/forum/ Realtime Kitfox movies to separate the internet chatter from the truth http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=kitfoxflyer Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=255063#255063 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 08:01:20 PM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Kreem Problem Follow Up From: "Roger Lee" Hi Dave, Looking at those tanks, I don't think the Kreem coating was done right from the start. Ethanol doesn't effect Kreem like that unless it was done wrong and got up under the coating and loosened it. Something was definitely wrong. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az.
