Jim, and Glenn,
My Kitfox Model II, started in 1989 and first flown in 1991 in the UK, is
now a US registered and certificated ELSA (Experimental - Light Sport) and I
am it's Repairman/Inspection rated owner. So there *is* such a thing as an
ELSA Kitfox and I believe there are many others who have elected to
certificate the new-build Kitfoxes as ELSA. Sorry to argue your post here
Glenn, but as you said we need to avoid "confusion" ;-)

Glenn:
I think we know what you meant, but there is a lot of confusion here (and
everywhere, it seems) concerning the LSA/Sport Pilot rules. Let's try and
keep the jargon straight.
There is no such thing as a Kitfox ELSA. An ESLA is an airplane built from
a kit that produces an EXACT copy of the equivalent factory-built SLSA.
Kitfox Aircraft just introduced it's first SLSA (for $84,000+) and may in
the future bring out an ESLA based on it, but so far all Kitfoxes are
Experimental-Amateur Built.
I assume that the reason you asked about ELSA Kitfoxes is because you are
looking for a Sport Pilot legal airplane. A Sport Pilot can legally fly any
airplane (LSA, Experimental, Type Certificated, or Ultralight) that does not
exceed the limitations on the Sport Pilot credential. Model IV and earlier
Kitfoxes without cockpit adjustable props are Sport Pilot legal, but any
later series Kitfox is not, because the gross weight is too high. (Unless
the builder had the foresight to certify the airplane at 1320# gross weight.
A thorough check of the FAA records would be necessary to prove that.)

Good post Mike.
I figured that was a wear point so spent a lot of time checking the fit and making
sure the edges of the seat belt slot in the seat were rounded and smooth as
I could make them. I take the seat out and inspect the belts each condition
inspection.
I also extended the plastic tubing the rudder cables run in farther back than the
manual showed to prevent the cables from rubbing on the out side seat belts.

Congrats!!! My first flight was January '09 in N100VX Vixen. (Speedster

beginning! The FAA only mandated 25 hours to me for phase I and I now have over
50 hours on " Alaula" (First light of dawn in Hawaiian.) I've also done a

all checks and double-checks, I fired her up. The TBI performed as

tomorrow. As advertised, this thing will not drip fuel like the other

I am VERY happy I made the decision...so far, anyway. Flying might be

"Wired Magazine" visited Oshkosh and posted an online article on July 30th
about the high-volume of traffic that the ATC handles during the show. Gues
s what showed up in their lead-in photo?
I know some of you will recognize the plane - it's very distinctive...

Congratulations, Stan Specht!
Nice picture of your Kitfox Speedster.
RECOGNIZED IT RIGHTAWAY as we flew together for 3-1/2 weeks all the way to
Barrow Alaska in 2002.
It was also nice to see you personally at AirVenture 2009.

Pat's hotmail account was closed due to spamming from it. It was a breakin. Does
anyone have a phone number for him? He lives near Rockford Illinois. I had just
started to help him but his account was closed as I predicted and I don't seem
to have
his phone number.

of taking care of them.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of

God Lynn, you're so terse. Can't get you to open up at all. ;-) What
is the "other system" you're referring to; I don't know of any
available on the open market.
