I have a KF IV with a Jabiru 2200, and I am pleased with it's
performance. I would recommend using the Skyfox cowl instead of the
round cowl. Cooling is a major issue, but if you have sufficient air
flow over the cylinders, it doesn't seem to be a problem. Also you
might need to rejet the Bing carb to control the EGTs.

Hi Pat, It came with the C box and a GSC ground adjustable three blade
prop. Are you using the 582 grey head? If so, are you satisfied with
it and what kind of performance are you experiencing? Appreciate your
      feedback.

My oil cooler is located right in front of cooling fins on the Jabiru
2200 oil pan or case. There is about 0.5 inch clearance between the
two. I have a bump-out over the cooler on the cowling with an opening
at the bottom of the bump-out. This is so the air coming in the opening
on the bottom cowl can flow over the oil cooler/engine case and then
exit without pressurizing the bottom of the engine compartment.

When I got my cowling, John McBean was not in business. If he has the
smooth cowl for the Kitfox IV, I would certainly look at that. My
dealings with John have been excellent.

After 3 1/2 years of construction, Series 7 N725CE took off for the firs
t time on July 28th. I'm happy to report that the first flight was
uneventful and required no trimming to fly hands off. Power is provided
by a Rotax 912S turning a three bladed IVO electronically adjustable
prop and it is a joy to fly with excellent control authority and
stability (intercoastals were used on both the rudder and stabilizer).
The panel includes includes a Dynon D100, Flight Cheetah FL210 moving
map GPS with satellite weather and synthetic vision, EIS engine
analyzer, icom A200 radio, and EP Load Center.

Custom features include cockpit adjustable rudder trim and custom built
hinge gap seals for the elevator which result in very effective elevator
control and easy three point landings just above stall speed. The
polyfiber system was used for coving and Aerothane paint was used
throughout. Empty weight is 838 pounds...several photos attached.

Looking forward to flying off the 40 hours!

Just to throw another thought out there, Jose, I don't have the bump-
out that Ron does, and I have the exact same cowl (also purchased
before John McBean got into business). I just brought my cowl a tiny
bit more forward than Ron did, and this gave me a little bit more
clearance between the cowl and the cooler. However, I think Ron chose
to bump his cowl for the air exit rather than the clearance
needs....eh, Ron? I have found that I didn't need to exit the air
before the rear cowl exit....mine also works, and cools the engine
      just fine.
Because these Skyfox cowls are kinda long, the builder can choose to
move them forward and down to suit where the engine sits, and that is
all based on how the engine mount is configured. I really had a lot
of fun (NOT!!) trying to fit my cowl to the top of the engine, to the
oil cooler placement, and to the back of the prop flange. And of
course, fitting it to the windshield would have been a real pain in
the ass, if it hadn't been for Dave Jalanti's excellent article about
that very thing. If you're not aware, do a Google search for Dave,
and the article that he wrote in Kitplanes Magazine back in 2000 and
2001, I believe it was. I also think that there's a CD that might be
available from Pete Krotje regarding the same.

There, like any good NASCAR driver, I think I've got all the sponsors
names in, and now we go to commercial......: )

Lane I am still about 2 weeks away from having mine airborne. I am
rebuilding a mod 3 that was set up for a 912. I was going to install a 912
but found a 100 hr 582 grey head C box FWF for about 1/3 of what a good used
912 would cost. The 582 is so much lighter that it should out climb the 912.
I am an old 2 stroke dirt bike racer so I am comfortable with, understand,
and like 2 stroke engines. The older lighter KF seem to me to be a bush
plane that I wouldn't relish taking long trips in no matter what engine it
had. If you want to know if the 582's are acceptable talk with Dave in
Canada, Noel in Newfoundland and Lenoard in Alaska. They are on this web and
between the 3 of them have more 582 experience than the rest of the world
      put together.
