It's not terribly loud and has a bell's tonal quality. The frequency does not change at d ifferent rpm settings, it only get somewhat louder. In other words, the cycle, or pitch of the noise doesn't change with different power setting s. I have listened to it also with the upper cowling removed and both doors off tryng to determine if it is caused by prop blast blowing through an opening or hole. It's hard to pinpoint where it's coming from, but it s eems to be strongest on the right side (while seated on the left). If anyone else has experienced this type of thing before, or has any ide as, I would like to hear from them. I won't be flying it until I can fig ure this out! Is it faired? I opted for the non-faired version with the thinking that I would install wood and fabric like the old gear had. I still plan on doing that, but am starting with the wing struts first. They seem easier (snap PVC) , and I think will provide a more significant speed increase than the gear. On that subject, what are some alternates to the .016" metal strut cuff that is included in the PVC speed fairing kit? What I did was cover as best I could using one piece of fabric terminating at the trailing ede, then making a figure eight patch that was layed across the top open edges, glued in place at the perifery and shrunk. It came out fine. I went to put mine on last week after looking at the box in the garage for the last year. The aluminum pieces sent did not fit for caca. soooo in true Alaska fashion, I busted out the good ole gorilla tape (for test flights only). While it did make it slipperier on decent, it really did not seem to affect cruise too much. Maybe 2-3 MPH RPM for RPM. The big shocker for me was today when I put my new full lotus floats on (1450's) and GAINED 8-10 MPH in cruise and about 150 FPM climb over my unfaired avid wide gear and 24" tires. I am thinking that when I pull my floats off I will be going onto a set of Lowel's cub style gear!
