Subject: Hi everyone, I'm back with a -4 with NSI questions..
Deke and Jim, The person that bought all of NSI's EA81 inventory was Mykal Templeman who now runs Stratus ([mjt@camano.net]). I got my diodes from Mouser, they are NTE517 5kV made for microwave ovens. They are a bit pricey for diodes. Mike Logan Dogwood Airpark Fredericksburg, VA -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Jim Crowder Sent: Thursday, September 17, 2009 10:39 PM Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: Hi everyone, I'm back with a -4 with NSI questions.. Deke, I used a Dremel tool along with various other small tools to carefully remove the potting compound and diodes. To test the diodes I took them to a retired HP electrical engineer I had once built a house for and who became a friend. He has a pretty complete lab at his house. As I remember due to the size of the diodes it was difficult to fully test them. I obtained some replacement diodes from a former NSI employee who I learned had purchased NSI's inventory. I can't think of his name at this moment, but he builds another well known EA81 aircraft conversion. I only replaced the diodes we thought to be failed. You are correct in that they do fit tightly and I was concerned that they might short out. I purchased the potting compound from an electrical supply company. I think I still have the bottle at home and will look for it along with my photos when I return from my current road trip. I gave the unused diodes to the engine purchaser who took it all back to Australia where he lives. My work was successful and I ground ran the engine several times with no problem after the repair--something I could not do before the repair. Keep the tire pressure low in the trailer so as to soften the ride. Chose a non-rainy day to tow. Drain all fuel, if any, from wing tanks. Make sure you have the "front-spar-to-lower-fuselage" braces in place. Keep weight off tail wheel by elevating tail slightly then attaching braces from trailer up to the tubing that is welded into the fuselage near the rear spring. This keeps the weight off the tail spring. Subject: FWF parts wanted for Rotax 912
Good evening, I bought my FWF from someone who didn't finish his project and I've discovered I'm missing some parts. Before I order them, I thought I'd check with the list to see if anyone has any they would like to sell. All parts needed for a Rotax 912. Subject: Regarding the 582 weight....
The 582 is also a two cylinder and carries a PSRU. The radiators and associated plumbing also have a weight penalty. For all that for 64 hp the 582 is pretty good bang for the buck. As for oil being heavier... Doesn't oil float on water and isn't antifreeze heavier than water? Noel -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Bob Brennan Sent: Wednesday, September 16, 2009 11:18 AM Subject: RE: Kitfox-List: Regarding the 582 weight.... <matronics@bob.brennan.name> Hey Lynn - Call me stupid but the 582 is liquid cooled but a 2-stroker, and the Jab is air-cooled and a 4-stroker, so the 582 "wet" has the weight of the coolant and no oil and the Jab wet has the weight of the engine oil and no coolant. I don't know what the liquid capacities are but doesn't that kind of balance out? In fact I would think the oil is heavier? >From an open, but somewhat confused, mind... I just happened to run across this on another group: "The weight of the 582 plus liquids wound up being somewhat more than the entire Jab installation (about three pounds) with no change in W/ B. I figure I lost a few pounds and gained 24 hp." This was found on TeamKitfox (or whatever they call themselves), and it was from a guy who pulled his 582 and installed a Jab 2200. I'm not trying to sell Jabs, just trying to keep all our minds open. Maybe the ENGINE doesn't weigh as much as a Jabiru, but you can't RUN the engine without all the associated goodies. : ) Lynn Matteson Kitfox IV Speedster, taildragger Jabiru 2200, #2062, 770.6 hrs Countdown to 1000 hrs~230 to go Sensenich 62"x46" Wood prop Electroair direct-fire ignition system Rotec TBI-40 injection Status: flying do not archive On Sep 10, 2009, at 8:39 PM, Patrick Reilly wrote: > Lynn, I will make a set of those spacers if I don't find them in > the misc. fasteners I have left over.
