I TH ink I will settle on this for owner http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/a820.php A-820 CONTROL 36" BLACK KNOB 05-09436 $50.50 They have 11 in stock locally here in Canada and I can cut to length. Thanks again for inputs. I have the vernier on mine and prefer it over the friction lock. -------- Rotax Dealer, Ontario Canada http://www.cfisher.com/ Awesome *New Forum * http://rotaxaircraft.com/forum/ Realtime Kitfox movies to separate the internet chatter from the truth http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=kitfoxflyer Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=264462#264462 ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 02:02:08 AM PST US Subject: Kitfox-List: Re: Weight and balance From: "dave" PAt, I would have to look but I think the models 1 to 3 are a bit different than the IV model. Something tells me that is like 12 to 16 range. The 582 have a bellcrank up front that joins the 2 carbs and the oil injection cable. Only needs to be about 2 feet long or less. I always had to tighten it. The Vernier was much better but on a few occasions I accidentally hit the center knob with the palm of my hand and ended up going around on a short strip as the engine went to full power because of the carb springs (Vernier disengagement) I now have a counter balancing spring going from the throttle bell crank to a spot next to the Vernier attachment point at the throttle quadrant. It is a long automobile throttle return spring about 10 inches long. I now have a perfectly balanced system. I can push the Vernier button in and the throttle will advance very slowly or not at all. It's GREAT! just like a "normal" throttle system. Thanks to Lowell Fitt for this idea. This particular solution will not work if you don't have the older bellcrank system but perhaps you could come up with something similar. Also, the fore and aft envelope of 10.2" and 16" of the classic 4, do those measurements apply to the model 3? Pat, you should get someone with a model three to verify this information. For what its worth, a weight and balance program I downloaded years ago from the old "Kitfox Builders" website uses the same arms for the models 3 and 4. The forward CG limits are the same. The Rear CG limit is different. For the Model 3 this program lists 14.28 inches. If I remember correctly, the old skystar factory did some additional testing on the Model 4 and increased the rear CG limit to 16 on the Model 4 only. I'v always wondered if a person could do an empty weight and balance, then do several more weight and balance with a known weight at each of the loading locations, then run the math backwards to find the Arm for each location??? -------- Tom Jones Classic IV 503 Rotax, 72 inch Two blade Warp Ellensburg, WA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=264522#264522 ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 08:23:52 AM PST US From: "Pete Christensen" Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Re: Weight and balance PM me @ pchristensen10 at Austin.rr.com. While Brady thinks a corvair on a fox would be possible, listening to you, the builders, suggests that the result would likely not be good. May just have to look to the Jab3300 or Rotax 912ULS as better though much more expensive alternatives. Thanks again. ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 12:17:58 PM PST US Subject: Re: Kitfox-List: Re: Weight and balance From: Patrick Reilly Dave, Thanks I think I have my question answered. I since have found an explaination of computing the CG envelope using mean avg cord of the wing. It was in my builders manual. It also listed the Mod 4 forward cg as 10.2" which followed the formula of 20% of MAC. In addition it listed the rear CG as 16", 16" does not follow the 28% of MAC. formula. The 14.28"is 28% of the 51" MAC. I had heard that the factory had extented the rear CG after tests., and wondered if it also applied to the model 3. Thanks again.
